Typing, so much effort required…

After a three day weekend away that included blowing off writing up the Hopeful Friday, I return to type the names of those who have covered themselves in glory. I would apologize for not posting on Friday, but I do this for free, so bite me.

At Saturday’s Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup Race, Stalin Quiterio Cuello of Dave Jordan Racing won the P123 race. Matthew Moocarme of Organic Athlete won the cat 4 race. Results are here.

There aren’t any results posted yet for the Bear Mountain Orphan’s Classic, but there are some pictures of the paper that contains the names of the triumphant posted on their Facebook page. There are no team names includes, so I won’t type those here.

Mike Margarite won the elite men’s race. Beth Ruiz won the women’s elite race. Gabrielle Allong won the women’s cat 4 race. Erin Korff won the masters 123 race. Drew Cogon won the men’s cat 3 race. Colin Tanner won the men’s cat 4 race. Mark Pattinson won the master’s 4/5 race. Ray Hyland won the men’s cat 5 race. Gregory Benning won the juniors 9-18 race.

Pictures of the papers that have the winners are here.

Why are you guys wasting time on this anyway? You old farts whose been racing too long and you newbie Cat6…

Froomestrong

Do you count north jersey riders as well? because they often race in NYC? Maybe not the best, but John Durso regularly wins races at age 48. 20 years ago he won the Tour of Somerville Pro/1.

Half the Jamis/Hagens Berman team come from Northvale and the entire Somerville team (I know not pros, but they beat us a lot) lives in a house together in Branchburg NJ, which makes them pro-like. :-/.

erin korff

“Erin won…just great now he can be even more of a know it all cocky old fart.”

Hey @Tom Clearcoat: My sarcasm and humor meters are pretty well-tuned, and your remarks aren’t funny or ironic. Do something positive or don’t do anything. Even though I worked really hard to come back from a shattered left elbow last summer, I get that this hobby of mine is merely that – a hobby. What matters in this life is the sincerity and integrity with which you live your life. Posting anonymous snipes accomplishes neither. Cheers, EK

Mike M: Best NYC-based racer of past 10 years? I can’t think of another one who has his results in races both big and small.

me

NYC has developed some pro riders in the last 10 years, most notably Evelyn Stevens.
MM is definitely kick ass, but there have been many others as well.

But on the men’s side, Peter Salon rode for the Garmin team for several years. Neil Bezdek was with Smart-Stop and routinely wins the Red Hook criteria.

Giulio del Friuli

No disrespect to any of the current local talent but the answer to the question are these criteria: 1) Former active member of CRCA/part of the local scene AND 2) competed in a PRO Elite World Championship?

One person – Evelyn Stevens.

Joao meets the two criteria by a technicality but his formative years were not in NYC

Again, I love seeing guys like MM crushing it but it’s not UCI Pro level competition. Not by a long shot.

me

Whoa, Giulio.

They guy wrote, “Best NYC-based racer…”

And you decided he/she must have been a CRCA member?

There’s more to NYC cycling than CRCA.

Tristan Cogset

By careful preparation while Organizing a Gran Fondo, one can avoid covering their legs in glory. Or any other messy substance.

Giulio del Friuli

“CRCA/part of the local scene”

Either/or/and – just to clarify. CRCA is definitely not a requirement.

Would love to hear the thoughts and impressions of those riders in GFNY and local triathlete team’s kit thought of Bear race.
Are you ready for your event this weekend! Good luck, have fun and enjoy your medals.

john has had plenty of good rides. what was a bowl full of wuss was about 6 years ago in denville. john sat on the break of 5 in the masters race for the last five miles and didn’t rotate once. he then masterfully won the sprint. after that show, he was dead to me, fredo.

Michele Supple

I don’t think that CRCA can take the credit for “developing” ES. She basically crushed everyone for two years and went to Europe..

Mohamed Helmet

@ WTF Tue, 05/13/2014 – 10:20am , “Is CRCA becoming the new Van Dunk of results now.” hahaha

Quentin Threadlock

Er, that’s a big joke for those in the know as to how he got to Cervelo. What a self-promoter. Much prefer those who let their legs do their talking.

Victor Housing

are you saying that him getting 103rd in the tour of California didn’t lock up his sponsorship for the upcoming season?

...

Knocking Durso for that could be a bit out of context. Denville was part of the season long NJ Cup series, and Durso’s teammate was leading the 35+ series. There was also a crash in that break near the end of the race that no doubt impacted the dynamics. He continues to regularly ride away from fields and drive breaks, so picking one race 6 years ago as indicative of the kind of rider a guy is seems a bit pointless. That said, you’re free to judge whomever you want, by whatever criteria seems important to you.

Ethan Lorica

What is all of the hype with this guy? Everybody says how great of a rider this guy is, but when racing against Pros he doesn’t do a thing and gets dropped or doesn’t finish the race.

Eeyore

Simple: he is better than you. Probably better than most of us.
But he is not as good as the real pros.
Who are we to judge the guy? None of us on the site really have any authority to judge anyone locally. We are aaaaaaalll small fish in a pretty small pond. Just lots of fish swimming and bumping to each other.

Giacomo Ferrule

Why be such a dick? the thing is with bike racing that unless you’re a Pro Tour rider, there is always another level of rider who can kick your ass, or a course that doesn’t suit you. Maybe even then….

james thurber

racing against the pros? who compares themselves to the pros? only delusional walter mitty types apply here. i’m sure zack knows where he stands locally, nationally, and internationally. some people need to put others down in order to make themselves feel better.

Tuur Limit Screw

Zach has a full time job and probably trains about 1/3 the hours that your typical pro puts in so it’s a silly comparison. Even in our small pond a huge percentage of difference in ability among us can be attributed to available training time.
