Hangover March 4, 2013

Burp

This past weekend was the first of the 2013 NYC racing year, and we all gorged ourselves at the table of mightiness, but some ate more than others. Let’s see who demanded the largest portions, shall we?

At the CRCA Club race on Saturday, Evan Murphy of Foundation won the A race. Britt Lee Bowman won the women’s race. Matt Seaton of Rapha won the masters race. Keith Goldman of Bicycle Planet Racing won the B race. Ian O’Brien won the C race. The CRCA site doesn’t include team affiliations, so if you can help me add tam names to riders that would be great. Results here. Photos here, here and here.

At Branch Brook on Saturday, Brian Breach of GS Mengoni USA won the 1/2/3 race. Stephan Dioslaki of Five Four Sports won the masters 35+ race. Lesnek Sniadowski of Flying Ace Cycling Club won the masters 45+ race. David Hall of Ride Brooklyn won the 4/5 race. Didier Forers of Team Montclair Bikery won the masters 4/5 race. Results are here.

According to the Spring Series Twitter page, the races for March 3 are finished, so that’s a relief. I wouldn’t want anyone to still be racing 24 hours later. I can tell you that Brian Breach went two for two this weekend and won the 1/2/3 race at the Spring Series. The rest of the results are known only to those who were awarded them. Here’s the Spring Series Twitter feed, decipher it if you can.

At the Ronde de Bethel in Bethel, CT, Tony Hall of Champion System won the pro/1/2/3 race. Raquel Miller of the Farm Team Elite Women’s Cycling Team won the women’s race. Unattached Laurence Merling won the cat 3/4 race. Chris Chapman of Breakaway Couriers won the masters 45+ race. Brian Fuller of Competitive Edge Cycling won the cat 5 race. Results are here. Photos are here.

Quentin Fork

Keith Goldman, winner of CRCA B race is on CRCA/Bicycle Planet Racing

Larry Uhrlass also of CRCA/Bicycle Planet Racing won the Spring Series cat 3/4

Just sayin….

Giulio del Friuli

Grammar people! Does the team have one collective ass? Did they bring a donkey to Connecticut?

Spring also brings venal joy for anal retentive grammarians. This site is gold!

Daan Supple

I suppose if I said “they got their Butt Kicked” you would think that was a cigarette that was kicked. Go back to school ,You IDIOT !

Wylie Brazeon

Spring is also the time to be reminded why everyone else thinks that roadies are assholes.

Mary Juana

Charlie Bird from zero to hero in just a few months… hmmmmmm…

Jokes aside, congrats Charlie, well done (I hope)!!

Mary Juana

Why is going to Bethel sandbagging? Were fields small and uncompetitive? C’mon Don Quixote, put some facts behind your comments…

Ilias Brakepad

AVD is working hard to pull defeat from the jaws of victory after a relatively successful first race. I don’t get it.

Don Quixote

Mary J, do you have a better explanation for someone burning so much fuel getting to Bethel as opposed to hopping on one’s own bike and pedaling the paltry distance to CP? Please, enlighten us.

Ilias Brakepad

I rode the CP race, but I can imagine riding Bethel instead. Why? something different. Variety is the spice of life. Yo.

Don Quixote

yes, variety is fine….but i reckon there may (MAY) be some sandbagging with city teams going to bethel, c’mon you gotta agree that this happens

Jp Kaminski

Sandbagging at Bethel? – have you ever done a race there? The competetion level is pretty high. Oh and you get to see results becasue the promoter doesnt scam you fro your money and does the right thing. By the way, what do you care anyway?

ENEAS FREYRE won White plain s crite and took 4th at tour od catskills
Rob Marcinko took 4th at Fitchburg a few years ago
Ross Baldwin took 6th overall at Green Mtn.

These guys are pretty good –

Daan Supple

The fact that bethel is not at some Un godly hour in the morning and up to 10+ degrees colder is very appealing to City riders and there are no joggers or runners getting in the way, is nice as well. The prizes are better ,the course is fun and challenging and over all its a refreshing choice.

Don Quixote

i like to get people riled up, thats why i care…if it werent for the sandbagging comment, what else would be all be talking about, except to say where the hell are the results from yesterday?!?

Sonny Crocket

hey anyone know if you can use your smartphone app to show your license at races instead of hard copy? the usac app is swell

Giovanni Skidmark

Works to register, at least at Branchbrook. Anyone hear any followup on the crash in the Mastrers 4/5 squirrelfest ? Dude looked hurt bad.

Aaron Brifter

Does anyone know if the other guy in CRCA A crash also broke his collarbone? I know Jayson did, but was there confirm on the other rider? I think he was from ARC team. I know he thought it was. Shitty luck for both.

mehi

He was bumping into me moments earlier then he did the same to my left and took someone down causing the crash. He was able to stay upright. He needs a talking too by someone with authority. He did not seem remorseful at all.

Hot tubE

Yes, you are allowed to show your license on your smart phone in place of the hard copy. Now if only BikeReg had an app.

By the way. Why did so many CRCA riders come to other races Saturday, like branchbrook. CRCA riders came from Brooklyn and Queens to NJ for Saturday. I’m not complaining at all, great to see friends, just curious why anyone would do that.

The Easton Assassin

“Sixcycle couldn’t hold my jock” – rider from the team formerly known as Adler.

All quotes guaranteed overheard in the CP bathroom.

wheelsuck

How am I supposed to know whose wheel to suck in order to win next week when I don’t know who finished ahead of me last week…where the HELL is AVD with the results????

One Eyed Willy

The best way to race an AVD race in CP is to ride with your eyes closed and hope for the best.

Hot tubE

So, it seems that the CP race by AVD turned out to be the safest among the other weekend’s races. There was a small crash in the Cat 5 race, no real carnage.

Heiney Versnuggin

Sweet, that means there’s opportunity to re-write the history books, just like what happened to my pal Lance?

Sonny Crocket

ive got forward and rear facing go-pro’s this weekend, its ON, ill post my own results…for a small fee

Romain Skidmark

…that Vandivort will ride next race with an even dozen GoPros in order to recreate the race experience in three dimensions.

I plan to watch it on Vimeo sitting on my subwoofer, while my wife throws cat food on my face and after I eat a carton of Clif Bars in order to recreate the CRCA experience (or, if I throw $30 out the window first and then fail to report the results, just like Spring Series).

Raphael Ziptie

that is perhaps the funniest thing i’ve read on nyvc all year–even though it’s only march.

Noe Liner

The second rider who crashed did not break his collar bone. Also, if you saw the crash and know who/what caused it, you should share it with the CRCA board and/or race officials. That way they can do something about it.

schmalz

That’s a bit of an upgrade conundrum, if you place at the Spring Series, but it never gets reported, is that a race wasted?

crankinitis

How long a window does a race director have before he incurs a penalty or punishment from USAC? I’m looking at you AVD.

Ilias Brakepad

Schmalz – not much of a connundrum. Clearly the answer is yes. It also adds another explanation as to why NYC’ers would go out of town rather than ride his races. I don’t understand why he is so half-assed about running these things since he is hurt the most by subsequent poor registration.

Ermanno Helmet

The winner of the CRCA women’s race, BrittLee Bowman, is on Stans NoTubes p/b enduranceWerx.
Since you wanted help adding team names.

Jasper Tarmac

I love actually racing, but who the hell wants to watch go pro videos of a CRCA race? That’s really f’ing boring! How many real pros do you think watch videos of themselves after races?

a set of steak knives

were great for watching which douchebags actually rode- scratch that- sprinted around the scattered bike and bodies last year at the SS race in CP. what for? your 4th place never got reported anyway so you didn’t get your upgrade points.

Hot tubE

If I recall it wasn’t that long ago, about 2010 and prior, when very few results were posted to USAC at all. USAC was confirming rider upgrades with Bikereg because they had more results.

Sonny Crocket

Anyone ever see Better Off Dead…where the kid keeps hounding John Cusack for his $2. Cusack finally says to the kid, hey look, I dont have 10 cents right now….and the kid says, I didnt ask for 10 cents, I asked for my two dollars

Its like asking AVD for race results…instead, maybe he’ll offer us free races this weekend, to which i would say…i dont want a free race AVD, I WANT MY RESULTS FROM THE LAST RACE

Beddy Durcks

I explained to AVD that as it stands no one above a Cat 5 will be able to get points because the points calculations depend on the field size.

shootthegap

Wow those uploaded results look real sloppy. Wonder why you clowns wake up so early when you know what your going to get. Hilarious.

Hot tubE

Stop complaining about the field size thing with upgrades and posted results. If you think you’re in contention for upgrade points have your finishing place, field size, race distance, race name and your name written on the back of your number and signed by the official on site. This way if you’re ever scrutinized in the Cat 5s, which you wont be, you have documentation supporting the races you’ve done.

It is not required by AVD to post the field size or full results.

crankinitis

How about AVD just does a better job of reporting results? Everyone else is capable and does a much better in reporting results. Why can’t he?

M.Gibson

is the a new category that the AVD is beta-testing for USA cycling. It involves getting your blood alcohol level to at least 0.75, then seeing how many collarbones you can break in the field.

bb

Looks like the Setanta rider got DQ’d after all. Thanks to whoever caught and reported his behavior in causing the crash and prior to that.

Provenzano Cage

AVD also dated the race 2012, so good luck convincing anyone it took place last weekend.
