It was a hectic weekend of racing in the greater New York area, and there’s results to be scoured, so let’s traipse through the lists on the internet together.

Michael Shinall of GREEN LINE VELO driven by ZipCar won the cat 3 category. Jeff Condon of Kissena won the category 4/5 overall. Anna Mumford of Dave Jordan Racing won the women’s cat 4 overall. Results are here.

I’m getting an error page form the results page for the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup results page now, so maybe it’s my computer. I do know that Euris Vidal of Foundation won the category 1/2/3 race. Results should be here.

It’s amazing how many congrats emails I read a week about “top 10!” and “I got 6th!”…that’s good and all, and it’s great to finish a race, but c’mon!

REPORT THE POTHOLES IN PROSPECT PARK! There are some potholes in Prospect Park that need repair. We told the officials at Prospect Park and they said to contact 311. Everybody – please call 311 to have the holes fixed. The locations are:

#1 is 75 ft before the traffic light for the crossing to the picnic house.

# 2 is by the Parks Dept maintenance building.

#3 is Right at the top of the decent.

If we all call there is a better chance they will be repaired. Please “share” this post to spread the word.

Reading race reports from Wisconsin got me to thinkin….is it just me, or is it becoming a lot more common for guys to give up pretty quickly….do a few laps and call it quits, not even try to catch back on?

Francesco Rim

I think it was bike snob who said it best: If you don’t know how you finished, you lost. Eli whining about maybe coulda just perhaps gotten 8th instead of 10th if only he didn’t have to sprint against more experienced people sums it all up so perfectly.

In my opinion…

A poorly run race is a poorly run race, no matter the price. But you wouldn’t know because you don’t race. Jerkoff.

you can race and spend plenty of time with your wife and kids. it’s not an either/or proposition. and from the looks of some of my non-bike racing friends and colleagues they would benefit from spending a little less time sleeping and eating.

Will “NYVC” become a verb someday and enter the lexicon of cyclodorks worldwide?

“Hey, did you NYVC today, bro?”

“S’matter of fact I did. And oh man, it felt good.”

Romain Limit Screw

typically it’s a bunch of pussies screaming for their photos to be seen by all of 2 people: themselves, and their wives who they call over to say, “look honey, this is why i spend 96% of my free time. i’m sorry i don’t spend it with you & the kids, but don’t i look awesome? i got pipped at the line by only 14 other people, i was soooo close! i need to improve my zone training next year.”

Nipple

instant photos and results have not been a positive influence on the sport. it was a little more fun back in the bare knuckle days of the bible. what the hell, power meters too.

The volunteers deserve appreciation but the people who took the registration money need to do better. There were mistakes in results on stage 2 and 3 in all fields. There are still more than a few riders with no results and no word from the promoters about why, when, what is going on. I am happy for everyone (probably the majority ) who had a good weekend but a nine year old event should have figured out how to record results. If they had a problem then at least just apologize to the people who paid for the event.

I never understand this thing of treating promoters as all holy. It’s a product, you bought it, you have the right to comment on it. I have also never made a dinner in a restaurant but I sure as hell am going to rate my meal

After two years of botched results, my $70 and I will be looking for alternate race options next year. Am glad the option is out there for those who do enjoy the race, but won’t be buying what the promoters are selling in the future.

Would like a Yelp for races and promoters. There are tons of area offerings and would be nice to have an easy way to see how they compare. The race experience is very subjective, but a big sample of reviews average out. The threads on NYV are better than nothing but take awhile to wade through and dominated by one or two people with strong feelings.

Dicksnot

Duh. NYVC is the closest thing to a race promoter Yelp. Dan… Andy… Perhaps an ancillary site call HOLJALINE ??

Paolo Kevlar

Complain by not going next year. But if you’re whining on line causes the race to be cancelled because new racers don’t go and try themselves then it affects all who still want to race. I’m guessing 90% of the promoters aren’t making profits so to me, the fact that they are organizing these races for us self-entitled whiney bitches is a godsend to those who like to race and only whine in private. That’s why they are holy and you are a lousy Yelp user.

Because we’re not allowed to complain about promoters we get stuck with mediocre races like the Spring Series.
Everyone puts on a great race until something bad happens. Then we find out who the good promoters are. Why does Battenkill get 2500+ racers while Syracuse gets 300?
Word of mouth is working well. Posting a negative review here is the same thing.

Francesco Rim

Don’t worry, you’re not “stuck” with Spring Series anymore. No doubt you will be much happier with the alternative…which is nothing.

Michele Swage

I’ve raced the Giro del Cielo the past 3 years and, I hate to say it, this year was the least organized it has been. From sending out TT start times and the race manual at 9pm the night before the race to neglecting to sweep gravel out of turns on the road course, it really was not the race I looked forward to racing. Hopefully they can correct some of the mistakes from this year and come back better than ever next year. It’d be a shame for the local racing community to lose a stage race like this that caters to lower category men and women.

Jasper Liner

i know AVD is not doing spring series next year but does that mean that there is no more spring series? i know people like to bitch about it but it was actually pretty well run this year…would be a shame if no one picks it up.

Jonas Compliant

What’s wrong with Syracuse? this year was my first time doing that race and I thought that it was great.

Francesco Rim

Who would that “someone” be? This blog cracks me up. I have never heard of so many people complaining about not getting placed for a mid-pack finish at a $15 early season training race at half passed the ass crack of dawn.

Don’t any of you clowns have anything better to do instead of stressing about a shitty training race? Like going back to bed? Eating breakfast? Enjoying your family?

Not a lawyer

At $15 you haven’t raced the Spring series since the ’80’s.

And it just cracks me up that you call NYV a “blog”.

I’ll betcha a 2014 entry fee (more than $15) that there is plenty of racing on Sundays in March and April next year.

Giulio del Friuli

Same Dawn as Tony Orlando and Dawn? Pretty damn good Crack of Dawn yo! Tie a yellow ribbon on that shit!

Paolo Kevlar

Didn’t do the Giro di Cielo this year but have two other years and thought it was a fun, well run race. I wish the time trial was flatter though.

Tristan Liner

Overall it was a poorly run race with late starts, cars on the course and terrible problems with the results. It is like they just guessed. What happened??

Nanni Supple

I think they did a great job volunteering their time to give us a 2 day/3 stage bike race. Much appreciated here. Thanks.

Eliott Brazeon

I bet that 12 out of 10 guys that complain here about how races are run have not done anything to run a race ever.

Schiatta Clearcoat

Giro de Cielo was a GREAT race, the 5 mile road race loop was great and fun racing, very rural roads with minimal traffic. Beautiful scenery and rolling hills. The race I was in did not encounter much traffic however it is NOT a closed course race – so yes riders should anticipate traffic!
