Hangover Bastille ’08

And the topic is…again?

We’ve got absolutely nothing this morning. No results from New Britain or Attleboro, so help out if you know anything. From Organic pics it looks like Jamie Nicholson Leener wins every race she enters. The results file from Prospect is an empty email file, so chime in if you got anything.

Organic shots are here, 2 camera video here.

Huge success with all the top pros showing up and loving the XC and Short track courses. Craig, JHK, Wells brothers, Trebon and Wicks along with all the LUNA chicks and other top pros were super cool and hung around riding all weekend with everyone.

Some Sids racers showed up to race. The Mtn and locals did a great job putting on a top race weekend. Should be back even bigger and better next year.

Colin R

pulla riding some of the top amateur riders off his wheel raises some eyebrows. Not saying he is doping….but certainly, an interesting performance from a man just off a doping suspension. If he’s clen good for him, but I doubt we can ever have confidence in his results again.

Plus, he never returned the univest money nor the jersey. I don’t like it.

Brian G.

Morning all,

Had the opportunity to ride yesterday’s road race at the Giro Del Cielo in Western NJ. Nice low key event – about 40 or so guys in the Cat. 4 field. Smooth roads and good competition. Nice NYC presence there. Lotta fun.

Anonymous

Pulla served his time. Give him a break. You guys are whiney bitches. He was always good, with or without drugs.

Anonymous

True about Pulla….even without the juice, he was a strong rider. No testing @ New Britain = we’ll never know. Give’em a little cred though.

Anonymous

Great job for Chris Chaput! Solo’d for two laps for the win in the 3’s! Great work also by kevin brubaker, the two affinity boys did a great job!

Anonymous

Great results from lots of local women at this stage race. The final results aren’t posted yet, but..

Stacey Jensen of Kissena won the GC for the 3s… 1st in the road race, 2nd in the crit, 4th in the TT.

Alejandra from Major Taylor won the GC for the 4s… 2nd in the TT, 1st in the crit, 1st in the road race.

Evelyn Stevens from Avenue A | Razorfish got 2nd GC with 1st in the TT, 5th in the crit and 2nd in the road race.

Erica Adelberg of Radical did well too, but can’t remember her results.

Pure Hate

Top 10 at New Britain P12 on more than a few occasions with reasonable form. Puya couldn’t seem to ride his way out of a paper bag 2 weeks ago in a local race. Interesting. I guess he’s hitting “form” again. Good for him.
Hate, hate, hate.

Anonymous

Front and back camera is ingenius and the quality is also amazing. I can’t wait till you perfect this new technique. Thanks guys!

Anonymous

do you consider eddie mercx a loser? He was caught several times, suspended, came back. How easily you guys forget. Pulla sat out two years. let it go.

angry

frankly,I dont give a shit what is in the past…if he served his time then he can come back. However, I think he is still a loser and scum for the mere fact he never returned the money nor the univest jersey after being caught.

Getcaught doping once…I dont care who you are, no one can trust your results until they test the blood.

Eddy Merckx fan

How easily you forget how to spell both Mr Merckx’s surname and Christian name, Sir. When a man has won eleven Grand tours and three world championships, perhaps you could do him the courtesy of taking a moment to spell-check next time.

Anonymous

Seriously. Am I supposed to just forget about some guy who doped, cheated in our races, never apologized or returned the cash, and then comes back a few years later like nothing happened? I dont think so. I do love the idea though that Im supposed to think of Eddie and then relax and forgive. Nah. Eddie didnt cheat against US, and the mere fact that we are bringing him up in this context means his own problems arent forgotten either, which I guess is how it should be! Screw Pulla, and all the other cheaters who think its ok to cheat and then come back.

Gringos moralistas. Get on the dude’s wheel and try to drop him while demanding the Univest $ back. Otherwise, get your noses out your Assos.

Anonymous

So much negativity and no real content worth reading. I do not know how they get advertisers to buy space on this toilet paper of a site. Flush…

Nice race to Chaput … he won in similar fashion last year at the Keepsie crit.

Anonymous

Great video. When you perfect it, I’m sure it will be as incredible as your pictures! Thanks guys!

clean guys

this is a joke! how can they let him even race. pulla cheaten in amateur races. local organizers should be informed about this and exclude the guy. WTF

Pure Hate

Spell check that hate! Don’t forget Shawn Kelly. Glad you wasted a big minute “correcting me”. Ha ha ha
Hate.

Eddy Merckx fan

My pleasure. As this is the US, I would also prefer if you would place the period inside the quotation mark, i.e. “correcting me.” not “correcting me”. Also, I think you missspelled Renault but I agree with your sentiment generally that they are a sub-par automobile, at best.

Pure Hate

I do believe the period goes outside the “quotes”, but thank you for correcting my Renault mistake. Hate.
Those old Pro’s are hacks. Puya is the real deal. Nuff said.

Anonymous

who the hell is “Shawn Kelly” is he from long island?

Sean Kelly, dude, Sean Kelly.

Spell check alright.

Eddy Merckk fan

Au contraire, my dear boy. On the other side of the pond, the full stop is certainly at home on the outside of the quotation marks. But on our native soil, it would be as unnatural and frankly unAmerican as toilet water running counter-clockwise down the drain. Perhaps it is time to reacquaint yourself with a copy of Strunk & White.

Anonymous

Pulla is only one of a small number of guys in the US who have been busted, you think this shit is isolated? open your eyes. Quit bitching about dudes that did their time, and don’t bother bitching about those that still do it.

Or, just don’t say anything at all.

Complaining about individual riders mistakes does nothing, there’s a reason why there’s so much drug abuse. its a much bigger system.

Anonymous

All you moral crusaders do nothing but complain. Get USADA to come and do random testing if you want to clean up the sport. Testing is rarely done in amateur races, guys turn pro with all the knowledge needed to properly prep and avoid positive tests. Its by sheer lazyness that anyone gets caught these days.

Anonymous

USADA is making a surprise visit to FBF tomorrow. They’ve had it with all the NY bullshit and want to clean things up.

Anonymous

great. can you have them stop by the stalls, too? a lot of 5hit in there needs to get cleaned up as well

Anonymous

Biggest suprise – the Mexicutioner is actually skinny but races in a fat suit for training.

Anonymous

so, it’s not isolated and therefore we’re supposed to be cool with a completely unrepentant doper who “did his time” by not winning races by cheating for 2 years. that’s logical.

aefghi

we were riding in a big breakaway group, and dudes were regularly skipping pulls and sitting on the back. most were working well, and our gap really opened up. i must confess, pulla was *not* doing the lion’s share of the work, and skipped a couple pulls along the way. at about 5 laps to go, he attacked really hard with aidan on his wheel. aidan had been out (along with me and a couple others) for the whole race, 5+ hard laps more than the others, and had been putting in some really solid pulls to keep things rolling well. when they attacked, the rest of us were playing games and the gap opened up really quick, nobody really took the initiative to chase.

so, we have 2 strong riders off the front on a windy course, 1 is pretty fresh, 1 is pretty tired. the group is tired and not working well together. no surprise that the 2 guys stayed away, and no surprise that the guy who was fresher won the race.

a couple years ago pulla was doped. pulla did his time and that will always be hanging over him. but yesterday pulla won by racing a smart race. he didn’t drill it on the front all day and then ride away from everyone at the end like superman.

Anonymous

Anybody who has been racing with pulla this yeah, and raced with him pre-suspension can attest he ain’t on the smack.

Anonymous

puya never gave his prize money back, never gave his winners jerseys to their rightful owners, and is dirt. How do you think Brumble felt after the univest fiasco?

I can understand when people are remorseful after mistakes. Puya sucks. Anyone who has to dope to ride well is nothing.

Adam hanson put it best when he said “dopers should be shot…hopefully in the kneecaps”

aefghi

that was not a defense of doping, or even of puya or his morals or any choices he has made. all i wanted to point out was that the guy won a race by riding it tactically sound… and that from what i saw yesterday i have no reason to believe puya is doping again. but he should not be surprised when people are skeptical of every win he gets from now on…

Anonymous

You bunch of negative bitches. Sore losers, crybabies, old shit holders…Let it go already….

Anonymous

Why would a doper give back prizes? They are cheats, that mindset echos through their whole life. It’s their nature.

Anonymous

that guy has always had enough talent to win. when he was juiced he was UNREAL. example: a few years ago when he dropped a bunch of pro’s flat and won at mt. holly… or when he won mengoni gran prix and bill elliston couldn’t pull through on him because it, “was like being behind a motorcycle.”

trust me. the old pulla is only here in craftiness. or if he’s doping it’s not working quite like it used to.

just my opinion. hate away and be a skeptic because that’s the scarlet letter he will always bear. when he starts ripping legs like he used to i’ll join. until then it’s good to have him back.

Anonymous

agreed….good to see him using the brain instead of the boost. His win should be a sign that you dont need the stuff to crack legs around here. Just a little wiley tactical know how and good fitness.

CHIEF INSPECTOR CLOUSEAU

Maybe zees doped but racing really conservativelois as PERHAPS zee ouis clean, but then wins at zea end…??

Anonymous

Pulla was dq’ed at Univest. To get his USCF license he had to return the prize money and he did. He was not dq’ed from any other race and officially does not have to return any other winners. Amos Brumble was beltaedly, about 2 years, declared the winner. That’s because the promoter wanted to keep things very quiet.

scared anonymous

and even if he was not, at least he signed his name. I think it would be much easier for people to let go, if Pulla took any responsibility for his actions, but he acts as if nothing happened and even claimsnto be a winner of that race. That’s a very low class and speaks volumes about his character.

From Mike Green:

“I found out today that construction on Seven Lakes Drive between Tiorati Circle and Kanwaukee Circle will begin in August. construction will not be completed in time to do the Fall Bear Mtn road race.

Instead we will do a TT. plans are to do an ITT in the morning. This will be followed by a Team TT.

The exact course has not been determined. We can use the road from the Lake Welch Start/Finish up to
Kanawaukee Circle (going in reverse direction from road race).”

TT backwards on Lake Welch Drive. That will be one very fast course. Seems like it would be almost all flat or downhill to Kenawaukee Circle, right?

Albin

I don’t see anything there.
At the shop, the winning photo of Univest is no longer hanging on the wall.

Litty

“…he acts as if nothing happened…”

I’ve never spoken to him about it. Have you? In what way does he “act…”?

Anonymous

from innovation bike shop website. ‘Melito has been racing bikes since his youth beginning with BMX and progressing into a professional level racer winning many notable races. Come on in and watch him win the Univest Grand Prix…and international level race held here in the US’

Questions?

juicy fruit

I saw pulla from the side lines yesterday – he did not look like someone that just recently started racing again – he looked ‘enhanced’. The lead group was working really hard and put a big dent into the field. At what seemed to be the end of it pulla jumped and frankly this looked insane.
From here he looked 100 percent juiced

Albin

“Come on in and watch him win the Univest Grand Prix…and international level race held here in the US’ ”

I don’t see that anywhere on their site. Could you please provide a link?

Far from perfect.

In my past, I remember times when I’ve made mistakes, made bad choices, fucked up, times when I really disgraced myself. I remember (not proudly) occasions when I lied, when I cheated, times when I acted less than honorably.

People make mistakes, we all do. Maybe you wouldn’t do what Heredia or Bunde did, but so what? You’ve probably done other things.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Anonymous

But when the shot hits the fan, you should be man enough to face the music. If you don’t, you are weak of character, and some people don’t like it.

That’s the difference btw Millar and Hamilton, or Puya and Bunde for that matter.

Anonymous

Neither Hamilton, Bunde or Pulla ever faced up to anything. Hamilton denies everything, Bunde claims tainted supplements? and Pulla says nothing.
See story in Times comparing Giambi and Bonds. Giambi almost admits doping and gets “Mustache Day” , Bonds denies and gets kicked out of the sport.

Anonymous

for the clean ones, it’s nice to know you can still hurt the dirty ones. If you bitch, train harder.

Anonymous

hey zmolik, how do we know you did not get some good shit in the ol’ country? stop breaking bones and ride harder. you may well get the brown man.

Anonymous

If they were not lacking in that department to begin with, they wouldn’t have cheated. Getting caught does not change one’s character it only exposes it!

Eugene

Has anyone here spoken to him directly about it? Or has anyone read anything that he’s written?
I haven’t spoken to him about it, and I feel like I should. But just because he doesn’t write anything here, or write in blog, it’s not right to make judgements based on silence. (Not everyone has a press agent.)

Justin

Daniel Zmolik is the class act of this thread. The guts to put his name to his post and to call it like it is. Pulla CHEATED, deliberately and systematically cheated. Took away money but more importantly prestige and self confidence from clean racers like Daniel etc. Apparently he hasn’t given any of his money back nor has he publically apologized to the promoters or competitors that he has cheated or the sport that he has besmirched.

Instead of welcoming drug cheats back into the sport they should be shunned – only that way will the problem properly be dealt with. Apologists make me sick.

Lattanzi

I’ve had my fair share of 2nd place finishes behind Pulla. I’ll just say it’s strange to see him winning again.

Anonymous

if the time you spend talking shit on this site was spent on the bike then maybe we’d be talking about you…Zmolik-known more for his rants than his racing

Anonymous

hey asshole, shut up. you’re likely a fatty working right now, dan is a cat1, who is likely riding.

watch your freakin mouth

Anonymous

i think it’s all pretty obvious..

some guy who nobody has heard of laps the P123 field, beats all the pros, and then smiles as he comes across the line.

NOT CLEAN! NO WAY!

Anonymous

Basically anyone who wins convincingly around here is suspect, and pulla winning again its clearly going to be suspect. He made his bed and has to lay in it now. With that said, He’s not the same speed he used to be. He trained hard throughout his suspension, and when he came back this year he was not fit. He’s finally riding into the form he used to have. Give him a break.
There are plenty of dirty guys out there to worry about. That won’t change. just go ride. If you can’t handle the fact that the sport is riddled with cheats, either start cheating yourself of accept it and move on.

Pure Hate

I love all the dirty guys around here acting all Euro. Go ahead, dope to your hearts content. Spend that preem money on needles & rent. Win floyd, win Prospect, maybe do a good Bear, be “really fast” like Pulla & Joe Papp. Super impressive stuff guys, but in the big picture you still really, really suck. I’m not sure why someone would dope to get a little less sucky? Hate.

Anonymous

>Apparently he hasn’t given any of his money back

Have any of the promoters asked for it? Read the rules…

Mike Green posted on Peloton East that there will be Road work during the Race so its off and they are planning a TT. Snooze!

Quoting Cash -” >Apparently he hasn’t given any of his money back

Have any of the promoters asked for it? Read the rules…” – Asking someone to read the rules whilst defending the actions of a druggie… thats good, real good.

Anonymous

I love how Eugene always defends the dopers. for a guy who has pretty much given his life to mediocre regional bike racing, it doesn’t make a lot of sense. You should hate dopers, Eugene. Especially the ones on your team.

Eugene

I’m not defending dopers, I’m defending rational thought. Comments like, “From the sidelines, it was obvious to see that he was enhanced”, or “I haven’t heard an explanation, therefore…(insert conclusion)” shouldn’t be allowed to pass. We should have, and expect, higher standards of discourse.
