The weekend before GMSR is a funny weekend. There isn’t much racing being done as everyone is on their "taper" week and stressing about whether they are over or under trained, how their legs are feeling, if their coach was worth the money they are paying them, etc. I avoid this trap in the simplest of ways. By not doing GMSR. And eating copious amounts of ice cream the weekend before. It’s a tough life sometimes…
In Binghamton, there was the Chris Thater Memorial race. Full results for Sat are here, some notables are Gavi Epstein (Champsys/NoTubes) in 5th and John Loehner (Axa/NoTubes) in 7th in the Pro/1 race, both beating two very big names in the bike racing world so well done them. In the women’s 3/4 race, Danielle Kosecki (Asphalt Green) came in 3rd, Renee Engelhardt (Innervation/NoTubes) came in 5th and Carol-Lynn Mills (Houlihan Lokey) came in 6th. In NJ, there was the Mullica Hill TT and results are here. Also, the NJ Senior Crit champs took place and the full results are located here.
Oh, and at the very unsanctioned but super hip and cool (i heard there was a minimum tattoo requirement this year, extra points for ear gauges) Neversink Gentlemen’s race, I hear (and see) that for his NY racing swan song, Kyle Murphy (BH Comedy Central) won, beating his older brother Evan Murphy (BH Comedy Central) who took 2nd.
Congrats to all.
big signs (3 of them) in CP this morning: bicyclists must obey all vehicular laws, or something like that. they were not enforcing red lights or 25mph speed limit.
there were cruisers parked all over the park though and some going the wrong direction around the park. PITA.
The hammer is going to come down… on us. We have few friends
Outlined to me by at least 3 different cops is that if you go through a cross walk with a pedestrian in it–you will get a ticket. They all claimed they are not doing the red light ticketing if there is nobody around. The three big highway signs have been in the park since early last week. Plenty of tickets seen last week for this.
ouch, pick another sport.
They said bi-cyclists. Does that mean straights and gays can ignore the laws? You have to wonder who is the dummy at the DOT/NYPD who couldn’t figure out that was a bad way to word things?
You love running reds so much that losing that freedom will cause you to stop cycling?!
sounds like we just need to stay clear of pedestrians, which you should probably do anyway…
dickish behavior by other cyclists. this won’t end well for us
Was riding in the Park yesterday (enter wise ass remark about why I wasn’t somewhere better) and there were cops at most cross walks from the west side rollers back around to Cats Paw. Don’t think they care so much about 5:30am on a weekday, but they were definitely ready to ticket on the weekend.
Personally, think it’s a great idea. If you want to train on the weekends go anywhere but CP – go to 9W, go to CT, go to the rollers in your living room – but CP is just a dumb idea. It’s loaded with tourists, roller bladers, horses, and worst of all amateur cyclists. Definitely not the best place to be doing sprint intervals when there are hundreds of other people around not expecting you to come flying by at 30 mph (22 mph in Josh’s case). That’s just stupid.
When I was there saw one guy in kit who started mouthing off to the cop about how he has “never seen anybody get hit by a cyclist.” If you’re reading this, you are an idiot. There are lot’s of things you’ve never seen that happen all the time (like a woman agreeing to a second date).
If you’re going to CP on the weekends, in the middle of the day, get ready for some nice recovery miles. Maybe fill one bottle with rum and coke. Blast some Bob Marley. Just relax. Now, if they start ticketing at 5:30 am when nobody else is around…that’s a different story
The more Bloomberg and Sadik-Khan “support” cycling the worse things get. Get rid of these jokers, their bike lanes and TA lackeys and things will get better for riding and training in the city and park.
you are giving me WAY too much credit.
I’ve been riding in the park since the late 70’s. Back then there was no law which was nice but kind of dangerous. Now, there is too much law which is safe but kind of sucks.
8:47 – TA has done great things for the cycling community in this city. Not everyone wants to ride in a kill or be killed environment and be forced ake their lives into the hands on a daily basis. FWIW their president is also one of our fellow bike racers. If you think things would be better for us without them around, you’re a fool.
The problem is a simple one….cyclists are a convenient revenue stream for the city. In the name of “safety”. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
So now that the Lance debacle has finished it’s last chapter what are all the Lance haters going to be infatuated with. I always felt their infatuation was downright creepy with all the characterizations of a stalker. That’s not to say I don’t agree with you that the guy cheated, but some people on here have an unhealthy fixation.
Lance has about as much impact on my park racing as Brett Favre had on my high school football career. Zilch, zero, nada… Give it a rest with this Lance crap and lets get back to talking about racing and riding bikes. I’m so tired of hearing about this guy. The haters are just as bad as the livestrong lovers! Give it a rest!
Move to New Jersey

Will Lance be there?
Lance is everywhere you want to be. Just like VISA.
Dear Benedetto some advice for you.
First, wipe the excrement off your nose and remove said nose from Lance’s rectum.
Your hero (and he is your hero) is a bully, cheater and almost everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie) if you think disliking someone who behaves in this manner is “unhealthy” then I think you are not self aware. And given that the CRCA is averaging one doper a year for the past few years, what Lance does absolutely affects park races.
Ok, you may resume spelunking in Lance’s colon now.
I’ll stop the Lance hate if he comes and saves CP and NYC from all the police crackdowns on cyclists.
Lance for President. Or at least Mayor of NYC.
check this out. I am amazed that Lance would stoop this low.

Lance’s PR dept is pulling out all the stops. They tell the same lies and conveniently omit that they’ve never spent a single dollar on cancer research.
Dude, live strong ain’t about “research”, it’s about “awareness”. Get it? Now, we are all “aware” that Lance cheated AND that he beat cancer.
No need to research that.
Oddly enough the domain supportlance.com is registered to a winery in WA for a cancer survivor, rather than to LA or being privately registered. http://whois.domaintools.com/supportlance.com
