Still racing

I’m back after a week’s vacation, and I’m just getting back into the swing here. The GMSR went off over the weekend and there’s a bonanza of results. I know that Brian Gabele of SouthAfrica.net won the Cat 3 overall and Evelyn Stevens of Radical Media won the women’s 3/4 overall.

I cannot do the other races justice, so I will leave it to you, dear readers to fill in the exciting details. Feel free to exaggerate or embellish.

Denville and Basking Ridge also happened, if you won either of those races. let us know.

I think Mengoni won Basking Ridge, a 4 man break was away and in the last turn 3 of the break riders went down. Believe they still were able to get up and finish ahead of the field. I think the Mengoni winner wore a helmet cam for the race, should be a good video to watch if it gets posted somewhere…

Gray is sexy

Carr 4th in the 4B’s and Pascal Sauvayre 6th overall in a very competitive 3 field. Neither with any teammates either.
Well done guys.

Wheelsucker

No top 3 finishes for NY riders in the 4B field, but David Carr of Setanta got 4th and a bunch of others filled out the top 10-20 — Andrew Lawrence of NY Velocity, Jim Mernin and David Richman of Organic, David Chomowicz of Sids, Ben Hughes of Merrill, and probably others. Don’t have exact places yet, but they can fill them in. Nice race guys!

Wheelsucker

Why do they have 2 Cat 4 feilds if each feild only had approx 65 starters? Why not 1 field of 125?

Then you have a clear Cat4 winner…

Wheelsucker

One is 35+, the other is 35-

if you look at the times of the TT and races I think it shows this is a fair system and a good idea to keep the races safer.

Also stops beginning 40 yo old racers from making the mistake of signing up with the masters and racing Roger Aspholm, John Funk, David Taylor and the like..

Speaking of the GMSR 4Bs . . . let me add my congrats to the CRCA contingent for a super showing! Hopefully David Carr’s GC position isn’t significantly affected when he rejects the overstated result he was awarded in the crit. He has too much integrity — and put in too good an overall performance — to accept prize money and upgrade points associated with an unearned result.

David Carr

It didn’t affect my final GC standing, nor did I get prize money for the stage. I was moved up for being caught in a mishap on the 2nd to last lap while being in the final group (or chase group, I believe). I have written to ask them to take another look at my placing and move me whereever makes sense in terms of the rules of the crit. It would be only one upgrade point anyways for 6th, and so that is not the issue.

Real Suck Ass

getting your personal character questioned with no fault of your own on this site…makes me want to train, race, get points, so I can enjoy the same torture! Marco, take my picture! Adler, great race! United/Foundation, get out of the w(rec)k lane! Empire is so the best team ever, locally! Dan and Andy and that other total squid, THANK YOU!

Shut the fuck up you anonymous bastard casting judgement from your unearned throne. Get your own results to posture about.

GMSR Racer

Nicest guy in the world and he is almost like 50 years old or something. How about something positive about the guy being so super consistant throughout the race and getting a top 5 finish while beating guys mostly 10 years his junior?
We need more people like him in the NYC cycling community.

Davey

David Carr, you rode your ass off this weekend and I applaud your effort. Congratulations on the ride and the great result.

Wheelsucker

David is super nice guy, real steady rider and gracious winner. Also looks like he broke some much younger legs going up the App gap.

Wheelsucker

i thought winner was brian butts of harley-davidson?

some of the break riders had to grab borrowed bikes just to finish, and one collapsed right after the finish line. heard it was collarbone and possible leg injury as well – can anyone confirm/clarify?

SBAs

1st – Ernest Taukest (has like 1000points – wins every crit he enters)

2nd – James Morrison (has only 900 points)

3rd – David Fierro (Ernest’s teammate – these guys are beasts)

4th – Nick Pignatello (Ernest’s teammate – in his defense he has only been a 3 for 1 season).

I wish I had these guys legs. I guess I have to keep working hard… These guys are all ready for the next level. BTW – Gabele might be the best climber around next to Taylor and Roger.

can be a valid complaint (sometimes) in the Cat 4s, where there are Cat 4s-for-life just trying for their one chance at a victory.

Above Cat 4, a sandbagging complaint is ridiculous and mildly embarassing.

Wheelsucker

Only a day after an epic weekend of racing in VT and some great results by many local racers in all fields, the thread is back to sandbagging. You have all winter to kvetch, give it a rest.

Ha HA ha ha HA

CRCA all over GMSR, including 4 in the top 10 in the 3’s.
Ms. Stevens performance perhaps the most impressive though.

phil / sids

She absolutely crushed her field by a good 8 mins overall, I heard she even finished about 5th in the pro 1,2,3 field womens after breaking away from her entire peloton on stage 3.

Watched the crit and could see she was pulling her field apart just sitting at the front staying safe and destroying her field, very smart to watch when she was in a break and another radical girl was sitting at the front of the small chase group slowing down the pace, they had no chance.

Great racing girls

Brian Butts of Battley Harley-Davidson won the P/1/2 race at Basking Ridge and also took the overall for the weekend with his 6th place finish at Denville. There were no Mengoni riders in the break… similar kits though.

Wheelsucker

What happened to Mengoni at Denville?
3 riders, all got dropped. what gives?

Basking Ridge? Not one Mengoni rider in the top 20?

Interesting

Wheelsucker

4B results should not count for upgrade points since it was a Master’s race. Regular Master’s category races don’t count for upgrades since they don’t allow the entire contingent of racers to compete, even though they allow category 1-4 riders to participate.

Why would category 4 master’s races count for upgrade points, especially when the 4a group was obviously faster!
