There was lots of racing action over the weekend, so let’s not dwell on the fact that some miserable turd stole my bag and iphone on Sunday morning.
At Saturday’s Long Meadow Time Trial and CRCA TT championship, Roger Aspholm of Westwood Velo was fastest on the day; Ann Marie Miller of Sanchez/ Houlihan Lokey won the women’s race; Bill Sasiela won the men’s 4/5 category; Steve Goldman of Westwood Velo won the men’s 35+; Vladimir Borokov of Signature Cycles/Rock Star won the 45+; Steve Tinson of Westwood won the 55+; Joe Saling of the Somerset Wheelmen won the 65+; the men’s "Eddy" race was won by John Nobile; and the women’s "Eddy" was won by Dara Kiese of radical Media.
In the CRCA TT championships, Lisban Quintero of Foundation won the men’s A race; Michael Beckerman of FGX Racing won the B race; Ann Marie Miller won the women’s race; and Empipre won the team race with John Loehner, Michael Margarite and Dan Zmolik. Full results are here.
At Saturday’s Cadence Cup Race, Vladimir Estevez of Champion Systems won the pro/123 race; Radoslaw Smologa won the cat 4 race; and Scott Savory won the cat 5 race. Standings are here.
Sunday’s CRCA Championships saw Joshua Alexander of Foundation win the A championship. Ann Marie Miller is the women’s Champion, and Leszek Sniadowski won the B race.
And if you happened to steal my bag and phone, I would like to claim that I’m a good person and I don’t wish you harm, but I’m not such a great person – and while I don’t wish you harm, I do wish you some sort of physical infirmity such as scabies or a type of pustules – definitely something that will require a salve – so that you may look down at your erupting skin and despair.
first!
who’s the FGX team leader?
jammet of course
Sux about your bag Schmalz. Who ever did that is a douche extraordinaire.
See, I told you. Foundation dominated Empire and Adler again.
They won the TT and the CRCA champs.
People that think Empire is the best team in the city need to get real.
That was sarcasm, right?
Champion System. Nuff said!
I think there is some confusion about the term “best team in the city”. I think Empire has riders who are capable of riding at a higher level nationally (they participate in NRC races) than those on Foundation. That said, I think Foundation places far more emphasis on local NYC racing and therefore has had better results in the park this summer. Perhaps the label “best at racing in NYC” is more applicable than “best team in the city.”
are good crit racers/sprinters, but if they ever come across a climb bigger than Harlem Hill its all over. Throw them in a “real” out of town road race (80 hilly miles) and they’re done with. Empire (and Adler and others) travel and race out of town all season long. The Foundation guys have mastered the flat, local, 20-40 mile crit/circuit race–good job. Seriously. Its an impressive skill, but can’t be as satisfying as winning a 3-4 hour road race. Its time to move up to real racing.
Lance will race for The Shack

so, Foundation is a bunch of track riders with brakes. if you have a reasonably good sprint, you can get by on training about 50 miles a week and remain crit-fit. you’re going to look fat in the team jersey, but still win park races every week.
well, yeah. josh alexander and his brother are track champions of trinidad and tobago.
We do in fact have NRC points – Just got off the phone with USA Cycling – the organizers keep getting the name wrong… Not as many as Empire – but, on the board. So thanks for pointing it out…

too long, didn’t read. ray why do you even respond to this crap.
Ray is the best. He can use the phone, send emails, send
riders to races.
Ray is the best!!!!!
Champion takes itself too seriously. I thought they would get real after they got blown out of Redlands.
Hey Dan,
By any chance do you have the iPhone 3.0 software update + a mobileme account? If you did, you could GPS locate your phone + remote wipe it. You have to be a mobileme subscriber though.
Nope – don’t have that.
moderation. I mean, this site draws so many child like comments it is funny. It’s frustrating that this site delivers more ridiculous banter than good articles or talking points.
Yes, Empire is a good team, Evie is the best woman cyclist to come out of NYC these last few years, Champion System is a good team, as is Foundation but, maybe not the best as it seems that WS United gets that honor with maybe Mengoni somewhere in the mix. It’s great to talk about these teams and other teams like Adler but, to disparage them or their riders without real reason is simply wrong and childish. It doesn’t help this racing community or for that fact, advertisers to take this site seriously.
Champ sys and other regional teams are all about the same level. meaning they basically take a beating in the nrc races. look at bike reg, and wast mgt. and Empire.
they all have a stand out dude or two but they are racing for scraps when Colovita and Menzies and the other ass kickin teams come out to play
you guys need to get out of town more and see what happens to the local type non-pro dudes when there is big money on the line

Who decides whether you’re wearing the home or away jerseys for the park races. I noticed that yesterday morning was a ‘white’ morning.
Also, what’s up with the black armband on some of the team kits? Are we mourning the death of irony?
Do tell….
“to disparage them or their riders without real reason is simply wrong and childish.”
Unless they have a “insane” rider on their team that almost takes people out 3-4 times a race and actually does crash people out every 3-4 races.
The white is solid, but almost too understated – the black is pretty awesome.
The RALPHA are getting stronger….
took out the front of the field when it was at last well within striking distance of the break yesterday. total d’bag move.
Were wearing black at Prospect, white in Central. I would have put it down to a simple home and away but apparently not as black is often spotted in Central Park as well. They mix it up and I like it like that.
I do have an issue with how low the back part of their bib is though. You can often see the bottom seam of the bib creeping out their jersey’s. I’m afraid that one day it will result in crack showing.
And to weigh in with an opinion on all the mud slinging (and I know you’ve all be waiting for this particular Wheelsucker to jump in there) but I’ve observed in the A’s overall discourteous riding compared to other locales I’ve raced in. Some guys/teams are awesome but its pretty sad when it sticks in my mind when a guy does the right thing because it is so rare. Case in point we’re rolling along yesterday and a Blue Ribbon guy is on my outside, we start stringing out a bit and he points out that he is going to jump in the line. Racing 101, signal your intentions, be courteous when it doesn’t count and everything goes better. He signals, I say cool man, ease up a bit, he slots in we roll along. The fact that I remember this incident as being unique says something about the level of etiquette in the pack. Most of the time its just some yahoo chopping into the pack without signalling intention.
Discuss. Are manners an important part of racing or best left to the sorts of people that attend debutante balls?
If the field is strung out and a guy on the outside of the paceline starts drifting towards the wheel in front of you, it’s pretty obvious what he’s doing. You can either let him in or not, but I’m not sure why it’s necessary for him to signal the move.
The Ralpha crack haunts me. It causes unnecessary additional suffering.
And yet, additional suffering is what I crave. So the Ralpha again ups the ante.
Maybe you’re haunted because you’re always behind the Rapha train.
Are you insinuating that Rapha pulls train?
i think the contrast being made below was between polite drifting with a slight gesture vs. bashing into a paceline without regard to others. You saying “drifting is ok” to make your argument does not address the “chopping” that 3:49 describes…
And yet the ‘A’ field in all their CRCA dominance is coming off like a bunch of whiny little prom queens.
lAme….
Who cares about Ralpha they look fluffy in those white nylons
Is Rapha the only team in the area whose headline sponsor is a bike company…a real bike company. I think it is…its nice to have a cerveza, or a designer, or a law firm as you sponsor….but I find it more encouraging that a real bike company, with a global presence is actually sponsoring a NYC bike team.
I think that is something to care about…I think it is great that you can grease your boss at Houly Steinberg and Kravitz for 2K for a jersey logo…I find it better when a bike company says, NYC, bike team, 20K in free gear, solid exposure, biggest city in the world, sell more product, makes sense.
I also had my bag stolen, but it was at customs. How come no one talks about that?
To Is RAPHA?
Mexico City is the biggest city in the world.
Maybe if you describe what was in the bag we can help you get it back.
rapha is not a bike company you fucking moron. they make clothes.
Bike Company? Well, they make cycling products and affiliate with Condor. Not sure what the sponsorship is but those racers are rockin $400 kits (retail). Not bad for a local team. Long live the Ralpha.
I want on the team just for the country jerseys and IF Cross kit come fall.
You will never be on the Ralpha.
god… can you just re-name if crcavelocity already and get it over with
i’m with 11:19. prospect park? kissena velodrome had a great event saturday?
Yeah but PP’s too public and Kissena’s too way too far!
Let there be justice: some warm-up rider rolled into the race lane at the Long Meadow TT on Saturday just as I was descending the first hill at high-speed… The guy ignored the marhall’s direction (and obvious signage) to waver about in the race lane in la-la land. For a split second I thought “does a proper aero helmet fit require one to remove one’s brain?” No, as everyone else in aero gear was on good behavior. Yet, I was riding Cannibal –and starting to feel like a cannibal– in that split second seeing the fool ride into my line. I braked hard to avoid crashing into him. In the end, I tossed a curse in his general direction, then resumed my race. According to race officials, no one was DQ’d for a major transgression, but I surely hope some witnesses gave said idiot a good verbal beating as he was certainly the clown ascendant in an otherwise excellent event.

that is the sound of inevitability…
CRCA is “private” as much as your pay an annual fee and you have some accountability for your actions

and a great story, click on The Spin Instructor on right:

Go Robert!
But what’s the harm in doing it?
Talking about slaker teams..Does somebody knows What happend to Team Kingpin?? I Guess they couldn’t survive with out “ORGANIC” food…come, come out, come out wherever you are
glad to hear that kissena and prospect hosted some nice races this weekend, but if you want there to be chatter, you don’t need “a great event,” you need fisticuffs, bloodshed, death threats… that sort of thing. has fight night at floyd bennett field taught you nothing?
