More Cat 1s to Mengoni
you mean chabanov and scott?
Scott Savory Trains For The First Time, Gets Cat 1 Upgrade, Park Rats Everywhere Rejoice…
After letting the world know on friday via status update that he has done his first training ride “other then racing since… yea.. that long!” Scott has reveled that he has also had his Category 1 status approved by the good people at USAC. Turns out Scott was “bored a few nights ago and had bit of time and submitted some of my results and got approves.” He also mentioned that it “makes no difference to me, same, pain, pressure, speed, suffering and pedaling to be done to wind bike races.” This reporter has no idea how one wind’s bike races but who am I to really argue with a Category 1 racer? Mr Savory had no comment about the nagging question of whether or not he will now be able finish a prospect park race without a helpful push from a teammate.
USAC would not return calls or emails for comment about when and why they changed the qualifying distances for Cat 2 to Cat 1 upgrades.
And so did the CRCA B field on the last straightaway before the finish line. Luckily the dog froze (some say it peed & pooped) as it realized there was a large pack of excitable Cat 4’s coming at it at 30 MPH!!!!!! But shouldn’t dogs be on a leash at 7:45am on a Saturday in the park??? It could have easily been disastrous for the dog as well as for the riders!!!!!!
Savory has won races. Can’t say the same for the other guy.
The hill was really that steep…

….is ranked #7 for all NY state cat. 1’s
http://www.usacycling.org/rankings/?f=no&sex=M&state=&org=mountain&disc=&cat=&msj=sr&agemin=14&agemin=1&agemax=18&agemax=99&year=2011
I could give a _______
Nice job Rog and the velocity B team on the 1, 2, 3 sweep on Sat.
And Lisban is ranked 1st in crits, something tells me those rankings aren’t worth much.
Honey Badger to Jens Voigt in 2012
in prospect and fbf? training races should not qualify for cat 1. at least the other guy was gutting it out in legit long races. without being pushed.
NYC – where they blame for Cat’ing up and for not Cat’ing up.
It’s just hard to respect a guy who takes pushes from teammates to make it over prospect park “hill”. Even if that wasn’t the case, being competitive in the shit show of nyc park racing doesn’t make for a very good race resume. Whoever approved that upgrade must have been shitfaced.
I only know him from racing against him in my Cat3 Road and CX days but he is a super strong rider and one of the only complete riders in NYC in terms of racing Crits, hilly road races and CX at the Elite level. He may not have wins this year but he has some top 10s at some very hard races – see Catskills, Hilltowns, etc. His upgrade is well deserved. Have no comment on the other guy.
DA pulls the entire field, and laughs at the pain.
You folks are just pissed that a colored person from a third world country (Scot Savory) has progressed up the ranks to a CAT 1 in less than two years….booohoooo.
I wouldn’t play the race card, that comment is uncalled for. I just think that sprinters who do no work whatsoever and won’t go uphill are easy to hate. At least Ricky will ride a breakaway, Savory won’t. But he is seriously fast, that’s for sure.
also he won Somerville as a 2…not an unimportant race.
Dan won Red Hook Crit as a, well, there were no categories.. but still, not an unimportant unsanctioned bicycle race through a desolate post-industrial area of Brooklyn.
New Jersey is 3rd world country. Discuss.
I think people are always jealous of sprinters. Sit it…then win. Damn them.

Appears on the USA Pro Cycling Challenge official photos..
At the Cat1 level guys should be specialized in their racing. Not many in the US are Crit Specialists and Climbers. You dont see the Keoughs winning Speed week and then the KOM jersey in the big domestic races. Dan and Scott are completely different racers both strong and good at what they do,. As for getting a push in a race, Cavendish is laughing at you all.
That’d be Da Riggler. He is a out there working for the race. lucky mofo.
That dude is overchicked.
Cat 1’s should be able to make it over the hill in prospect.
I agree in part because PP is a big pack and you can sit in and spin up that hill even as a 3 in the “A”field. However, many Cat1s get dropped in flatter races due to the pace. Bottom line, the guy has won some big races (Sommerville) and placed in others (Harlem) and is a fast races (different than a strong racer).
bobke = scot?
No way. Words are spelled correctly.
but Julien is Dave Trimble.
Georgie Hincapie moved up the ranks just as Scot Savory is doing. Expect Scot Savory to become a pro very soon. It will give you something else to bitch and moan about.
What is the the tenth word in the statement above?*
but talking about Savory in the same breath as Hincapie is just redonculously retarded. Talk to the some of the old school Cat1s (Loehner for example) and they will tell you how Big George was lapping fields when he was 14. I dont know if it is the lack of knowledge for some of the readers on this site or just shear foolishness.
Scott as gone as far as he is going on a bike beyond maybe a slightly higher profile crit team.
put the pipe down and walk away
you are all drunk.
“Georgie Hincapie moved up the ranks just as Scot Savory is doing.” …And so did every other guy who upgraded to cat 1. Your analogy is awful.
“Welcome to Crested Butte, bitches!”
Is Levi really a tall midget? Discuss.
discuss to mengoni
There is another local road racer ranked above Scot Savory
Man, Savory is a speedster! He’s ranked higher than Sean Smith! HA! What happened to that guy anyways? Slow-Ass-Smith was totally rejected when he tried to upgrade from 3 to 2. And from 2 to 1. Took the dude like a bunch of tries, what a loser! That dude trains to much. So silly!
DA laughs at this upgrade jibber jabber. He’s a soul cyclist, putting the hurt on for the love of sport.
Scott didn’t do hilltowns… Nor catskills. Nor housatonic/ pawling. He finished out of top 10 at tour of the dairy lands and his only real claim to fame is 1st at somerville. Not sure where he scrounged up all them points. Yeah he’s strong, but as an athlete I have little respect for him.
Olsen upgraded on park races, rockleigh, and a bethel finish. It’s the NY way.
Why would Scott do Housatonic, Pawling, Hilltowns or Catskills? To get dropped?
And were you at ToAD? Do you have any idea how hard it is to finish in the money at a race with real P-R-0-s? (Gavi and the Spring Series doesn’t count)
if you wouldn’t do a cat 1-2 race because you’d definitely 100% get dropped, i don’t care what kind of race it is, you shouldn’t be a cat 1.
Chabanov got top 10 at ToAD and finished in the money 3 times with real “p-r-o-s.”
He also got top 10 at Pawling, Catskills, Hilltowns, CapRegion… all Pro/1/2 fields. Sommerville was a 2 only race.
in the money to upgrade points
Dan also finished high at Iron Hill Crit in Pa,look at all the DNF’s and he was a Cat 2 then. He’s a really Bad A$$ to finish that race. Cat 1 indeed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcHB060NKYo
All your upgrades are belong to us.
Chabanov to Mengoni. Oh… wait.. nevermind. I’m drunk!
What a sneaky spoiler that comment was!
Spoiler alert.
GH doped. isn’t that well known?
Oh gawd. Who cares.
I think its safe to say that pretty much EVERY Pro whose name we would recognize riding more than a couple of years during 1993 – 2006/7/8 doped.
I just finished reading Fignon’s autobiography and while he had no love for LeMond he says the same thing LeMond said about the end of his career also – in 1993, all of a sudden guys who were nobody / domestiques were “flying”. Fignon has a funny anecdote from 1993 – he was in a ~150K race and the hammer was down from the gun. There was some former “nobody” on the front drilling with still 100K to go…so Fignon went to the front and said in utter disbelief – don’t you know there’s still 100K to go and the guy just looked at him and went faster…
Tonight’s Roubaix Series race at fbf is still on!
It would be way too ironic to cancel a race with “Roubaix” in its name because of rain & wind…
how many will show up?
http://wsunited.org/
“Tonight’s race , 8/25 has been cancelled! Sorry, for the previous update but the weather has taken a turn for the worst. Sorry for the inconvenience”
that blows.
Its like 3 years in a row now that fbf races getting cancelled. Funny how it has coincided with financial turmoil in the markets. Is this weather a grand conspiracy by Goldman Suchs to keep its employees who ride/race from playing early departure hooky? Are they secretly cloud seeding? Discuss.
I call on my fellow nyvelocitians to stop following dumb statements with the word discuss. discuss.
there will always be another race…
http://www.youtube.com/watch?NR=1&v=AAZD6lOShKc
That was some serious premature race ejection.
Weather is def NOT turning for the worse.
“Vail this! So what if I can’t descend, going bald makes me even more aero.”
Will Crca be canceled due to Irene?
more acurate would be:
I think its safe to say that pretty much EVERY Pro whose name we would recognize riding more than a couple of years during 1993 – present doped
Whatever happened to Papp smear’s infamous” list?”
Is he in pound in the ass prison yet?
more acurate would be:
I think its safe to say that pretty much EVERY Pro whose name we would recognize riding more than a couple of years during any era doped
savory couldnt ride for Kenda/Axa/BikeReg….move to CO or CA where there are real races and racers…NYC is so overrated it is not even funny it is very sad…good luck in the CRCA Drug Championships
Domestiques have to get over climbs and get at least close to the finish of races they won’t win. The good ones are some of the most well-rounded riders in the sport. So, no.
If Scot Savory wasn’t upgraded he would be classified a Sandbagger.
A no WIND situtation – discuss
Scot Savory is probably having a good laugh at all the publicity, having risen from nobody two years ago to somebody to reckon with in the NY racing scene.
Imagine if Scot starts to take performance enhancing drugs he would make a good pro like George Hincapie, a highly paid domestique. Then Scot would be able to design his own line of cycling clothing using
“Scot Speed” frabric…hehe
Regards
Stink Batty
You guys were bitching and moaning about James Joseph, now you have Scot Savory to focus your attention.
Irene to Elsewhere.
irene’s a sandbagger
Did anyone get any pictures of the Hurricane at Prospect?
We presenting the first FBF Triathlon. Thursday night. .5k swim, 40k bike, 1k run. Eat at Mango Seed afterwards. Come for the Jerk Chicken, stay for the Coconut Pie, finish with some Rhum. Big up!
CP is currently closed. Check first if you plan on riding today
News said the gwb upper level is closed as well, so I doubt the pathway is open
Nice job local channel 4. Preempt an event people have been following for 6 days for continued wall to wall coverage of the “storm of the century” What a joke.
personally I agree, but we are a tiny minority. They would lose a lot more viewers than they would gain.
The race was online. Great stage btw.
on versus tonight at 11 i think, check your listings
