Evie!

This past weekend’s racing action was all centered on Fitchburg where Evelyn Stevens of Team Lip Smackers won the overall crown in the women’s NRC race over Alison Powers of Team Type One and elemental force of nature Jeannie Longo of Vital Plus. Evie started her climb up the GC by finishing second in the opening time trial behind Alison Powers. She finished third the next day in the State College Circuit race to gain the lead in the GC by one second. In the Wachusett Mountain Road Race, she kept her podium streak alive with a second place finish, giving her a 20 second lead over Alison Powers. Evelyn then cemented her overall win by finishing with the pack in the Worker’s Credit Union Downtown Criterium. Great work, Evie!

At the master’s race, some guy named Roger Aspholm of Westwood Velo was 5th in the opening TT, with Kurt Gustafsson of Axis 9th. Roger then went on to win stage three.
Aspholm ended up taking 2nd on the GC, Kurt Gustafsson of Axis was 9th overall. Troy Kimball of Westwood Velo won stage four crit, with Eutime Quintero of Foundation 4th.

In the cat 2 race, Dan Hoffman of Westwood was 2nd in the opening TT, Gabe LLoyd of the Van Dessel Factory Team was 8th. On stage two, David Taylor of Blue Ribbon Translations finished 5th with Kyle Peppo of Adler 8th and Gabe LLoyd 9th. On stage three, David Taylor had another strong ride to finish 6th. On stage four, Ken Harris of Adler won with Greg Olsen of Adler 5th and Connor Sallee of Williams Cycling 6th. LLoyd ended up 4th on overall GC with Taylor 6th on the final GC, Harris ended up 7th and Kyle Peppo was 10th overall.

In the cat 3 race, Steve Goldman of Westwood finished 3rd in the TT. On stage two, Filip Capala of Capala Brothers/Polska won. Capala finished 3rd in the final stage, with Goldman finishing 3rd on the final GC.

In the men’s cat 4 race, Abraham Soler of Foundation finishes 4th on stage two. following that with a 5th place on stage three.

In the women’s 3/4 race, Erica Adelberg of Radical Media got 3rd in the opening TT. Fabienne Gerard of Teany Cycling finished 4th on stage two and 3rd on stage three, and then finished her climb up the results by winning stage four. She finished 6th overall.

In the junior’s race, Benjamin Salibra of the CRCA Development team finishes just outside of the top ten on stage two at 11th place. He would hold on to finish 15th on the GC.

I hope Evie’s phone is now ringing with USA Cycling on the line offering her a trip to Europe with the National Team.

Wheelsucker

He only finished in 5th to endure the suffering of not standing on the podium. It’s the way of the Ralpha.

Wheelsucker

Seems like everyone is a 2 now. Maybe I can actually finish at the front for now…

Actually, I will still be pack fill…

Wheelsucker

chris fisher, CT native, was in a 7+ minute break in the masters road race to win the GC after handily winning the circuit race the previous day.

also drives a diesel truck. absolute beast!

Wheelsucker

That guy is really filling his closet with extra kit this season… 3 teams in less than 6 months?

Wheelsucker

Perhaps Stiller is shadowing LA for his upcoming bio-pic, “Pharmstrong: A True Douchebag Story”.

Wheelsucker

Lots of CRCA 3s and guys from NJ, MA and Conn from last year are 2s now. Look at the Cat2 results and it reads like last years Cat3 results.

Wheelsucker

Seems like a big move of guys to Cat2. More than last year..

No hate just an observation. These guys are all doing well at the next level.

BTW – Dylan McNicholous – guys is a beast

Wheelsucker

VS TdF stream was choppy, and would crash on me for the entire stage today–including with 3 k to go when it crashed and didn’t come back up until after the finish. Anyone else experience this?

Wheelsucker

ha, he was racing in a mengoni kit at fitchburg, and is registered for governor’s island for mengoni.

2:49 quit living in the past. is that you JP?

Wheelsucker

Well if he is then Good Luck on Mengoni.I hope not to see that Beatup Cannondale on Ebay when you get that New Jamis.

Wheelsucker

why do you “hope not” to see his cannondale on ebay. what the shit does that even mean.

Wheelsucker

They have like 3 guys on the team. All Cat1s but really not much stronger than the Adler guys. Out of town I would rather be on Adler with a stronger team overall. Look at the results.

Wheelsucker

Empire – The Top Dog (NRC racing etc)
Adler – 80% Cat2s that are very competive out of town and race as a team (looking back its funny to think they were the joke of NYC cycling in 06-07). Many of these guys will be 1s in the next year (Peppo, Slokar, Harris) They have come a long way… (not on Adler).

Wheelsucker

He should’ve tried for Empire they have Better results and do alot of NRC races. They also have some Cat2 he could race with or he maybe a Cat 1 by the end of the season anyway. Good Luck to the Young Gun!!!!!

Wheelsucker

Guys like Gavi, Lisbon and Neil should be on better teams. Its a real shame that Lisbon is wasting his time and talent on Foundation, focusing on CRCA club races over out of town races. Its a joke, a shamefull one

Wheelsucker

The only other very legit Cat1 teams in the NE are Bikereg Cannondale and Spooky. You got to be an upstater, MA or Vermonter to be on those teams. NYC is all Empire, Adler and Champ Sys.

Wheelsuckapants

Welcome to NYVelocity hater party. You know you’ve made it when folks who didn’t even know your name a week ago, write random crap about you today. Congrats, and good luck with Mengoni.

Wheelsucker

And is one of the best amateur teams in the country. Where they score the occasional NRC points, Champion, Adler, or Mengoni won’t even get invited to race there, not to mention coming close to finishing the race. It does not mean they are not good, but they are not Cat 1 teams, or comparable to Empire.

Wheelsucker

Too bad this isn’t a proper message board. It would be good to bump that Eric Robertson post about how much help Neil was getting at Kissena and how he didn’t need another team.

Wheelsucker

Mengoni was a great team with a great history. Maybe recruiting some top local talent like Neil is an attempt to revitalize the program that has been lagging.

Amaury Perez and Rafael Meran are top notch. Nick Friesen is excellent but has been in Belgium. These guys are all Cat 1’s and especially in crits are more than competitive with Empire.
Nick has done well in NRC stage races.

But Empire is running a program that is now in a totally different class than Mengoni.

If Bezdek continues to improve he’ll be a good addition.

Wheelsucker

Let’s not forget WS United at Fitchburg. Jermaine Burrowes went up there to represent. Not bad for a one-person team, though one wonders if he is too tired from his other career as a part-time FBF pugilist. Whatever the case, NYC needs more riders in the Pro-1 mix. Foundation? Please, get those boys some reality pills! Mengoni: embarrasing, really. Smoking Smolik should go up a notch: well done! Evie Stevens walks on water.

Wheelsucker

nice NYVelocity-entric post that last comment. got yer burrowes brother in there, FBF rumble reference, sandbagging reference, and Evie Stevens compliment. I give you 80 out of 100 score, you didn’t mention doping, please remember to mention doping.

Assuming the race does not get cancelled due to flooding, tomorrow’s Cadence Tuesday Night Race Series at Floyd Bennett Field will have double points for both the Overall and Sprint Competitions.

Whoever wrote this post is very ignorant and short sited. We have 12 cat 1’s and we get invited to most if not all the big races. So really – talk what you know. We have won over 20 races this year with multiple top 10 finishes. Empire is a great team! Don’t get me wrong – but, I would argue that they are better than us. They have riders that are better at Road Races where our team is better at crits and select road events.

Ray

Wheelsucker

Sorry Ray but your team is not in the same league as Empire. For one , you don’t even have a set list of riders. For most of the stage races you field a composite team with Lisban and others being your riders for rent.

Wheelsucker

who’s got the best looking team bike & kit combo?

1. nyvelocity
2. champ-sys
3. adler (last year’s were better-looking)
4. [?]

A

Empire is getting smoked in the park races this year. All of there good riders are outside of the city. They are not even competitive locally. Hard to even call them a NYC team anymore.

Calling Champ sys a cat 1 team is delusional. Let’s not forget how well they did at Redlands. DNF. Most of their “cat 1s” have never won a 1/2 race.

Foundation is dominating the park scene this year. They have the best NYC team

WS United is a strong 2nd but I put them in 3rd because it is so annoying watching them yell at people and get in fights every race.

Wheelsucker

The Empire guys are hardly showing up for the park races. when Hot Karl is there he is consistently placing in the sprints.

Foundation has the Central Park races on lockdown. Hard to beat Lisban/Alejandro/Alexander(s) in a sprint and not many breaks staying away this year.

Adler has no sprinter so tough luck for them.

Wheelsucker

Adler should pick up a guy like Gary Steinburg who could also ride the track with Ken and Tony. Then they won’t have to worry if Olsen beats him at a Thursday night crit.

Wheelsucker

Wow, Empire is getting smoked in the CRCA park races. OMG, that’s so embarrassing. Except that the park races don’t count for shit. Maybe they’re getting smoked in the park races because they don’t show up and are doing more important races, that actually pay out.

Ray Alba

I think somebody should look up the results at BikeReg. And for the idiot that says I don’t have a set list of racers – again get your facts straight. Also, get some balls – talk to me in person, with your real-name so I can personally address the facts to you.

Yes, for redlands it was a composite team – that is what happens when 1 rider gets sick and 3 of the others get injured! Have you seen Vladimir’s arm?

Here is just a few of my racers

Chad Butts cat 1
Igor Volshteyn cat 1
Gavi Epstein cat 1
Rodney Santiago cat 1
Wilson Vasquez cat 1
Vladimir Estevez cat 1
Luis Aquino cat 1
Raj Seepersaud cat 1
Euris Paulino cat 1

So again talk what you know.

It is very frustrating to be involved in a sport where the cyclists posts are so immature and stupid. Grow up. Get some balls – post your name and stop being a jerk. And if you are going to spew of things that are supposedly fact, then you better get them straight and cross verify what you are claiming is true – when it’s CLEARLY not.

Ray
A person that has balls of steel!

Wheelsucker

You talk to much. you talk to much on this site and you talk too much in races. Yes you have a lot of cat 1’s. The problem with your club is that YOU talk too much.

SHHHHHH if you want respect.

Wheelsucker

Ray showed me his balls in the rambles bathroom back in March. They were big, green, fuzzy, and said Spalding on the side and we played tennis with them after the race.

Wheelsucker

why do you NYC racers insist on using a flooded course every week? Why don’t you try a different venue like cedar creek park?

Wheelsucker

new paul sherwinism from today’s ttt (regarding lance, paul’s secret man-love interest): “he rode an exceptionable time trial.”

i think that could be a new saying around here. “he rode an exceptionable race.”

Wheelsucker

Lets just make it a cross race, I’m sure CJ would be down with that. Just throw a few loops through the grass, use the big orange things as barriers……………..Oh they are barriers. Maybe add a beach run.
I say puddles be damned…….if life gives you lemons…….make a cross race.

Skip

Ray Alba

Wow. That is a new one. Being quiet brings you respect. Give me a break. The only time I post something on here is when some ass-clown (borrowed from Dan) starts flaming my team or is making false claims. You want me to remain quiet when some bozo is saying such things and then is too chicken – like yourself to even post their name. I think not.

In terms of respect, I don’t need your respect – as a matter of fact you need mine. To be honest, I don’t really care if I ever have your respect because if you aren’t man or woman enough to identify who you are after flaming me in a public venue, then I don’t really care much for you.

Cycling is supposed to be fun and yet so many idiots that are in this sport make it sour for everyone. It is sad very sad. One day there wont be the Charlie I’s, the Sommerville’s, the Alba’s, the Kozak’s, the Shen’s, the Mike Sherry’s or even the Tony’s around wasting their precious time – setting up teams, races, sponsoring events, thinking of ways to better the race community due to people like you. That day will be sad but, I tell you, it’s already starting to happen. I am at a point that I don’t really care anymore. Thanks to peeps like yourself.

People that know me always know that I will say hello to them. People that know me see that I am the first guy to take out of his own pocket for the other guy. I go out of my way for other guys not even on my team. Perhaps your are just jealous that I am a friendly guy. Nothing wrong with talking, especially when you aren’t talking nonsense or making stuff up. If you don’t like me talking then don’t listen or simply go away.

Best,

Ray

Wheelsucker

ray is a class act. i admire him for putting his name to what he says on here. pretty rare quality these days.

ray, good luck to you and your team.

Wheelsucker

Stand up guy and passionate cyclist. We need more like him.

My first road race in Prospect as a 5. I arrived late running around crazy, looking for somewhere to stash my stuff, sign in etc. Never met Ray, yet he went out of his way to help a noob, let me keep my wallet in his car etc.

Wheelsucker

Your so correct a bunch of A**clowns on the site.Good Luck with your team .Spider Boy is Cool !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wheelsucker

i heard ray paid his team to not do f-burg cuz they wuz goin to replace a team at the tour da france
how cool is that?

Wheelsucker

Hi all,
I am posting this for my friend, just in case anyone happens to come across this somewhere. This was the replacement for the new bike that he totaled in a wreck, so I feel terrible for the guy, 2 brand new bikes gone within a month. Here is his description:

Bill

Bike stolen in midtown, NYC:

2009 Kona Honkey-Tonk, 56cm bright blue frame with Duraace downtube shifters, Shimano 105 Rear (9spd), with custom fit hammered chrome honjo fenders front & back, and a black metal rear rack. Frame serial #F009C3617. At the time it was taken it had a sticker from NYC Velo near the bottom bracket, a drink holder on the front bar, and a U-lock holder (empty of course) on the middle bar. Bike was stolen between 11am & 12:30pm Tuesday, July 8th from a rack on W. 50th Street, directly outside the Time building at 1271 6th Ave. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
