Rest day
Quick hangover before dashing off to work.
Al Toefield finish video here, Victor Chan shots here. Looks like Gavin Robertson won the 123? Pipe in if you know who won.
Foundation takes the Maltese team win, Raquel Miller wins the women’s 3/4 race, Brad Stratton wins the 4 race, and Knowl Johnson wins the 5 race. Full results from Alan Atwood here, more details/video on the crca site here. Victor Chan shots here.
cudda wudda shudda its frustrating Thor trains w Gilbert Cav cheats I think Farraahrr shudda start training w Gilbert and cheat like Cav…
Winner of the Al Toefield Men’s P123 was Adam Alexander. But you know, those Foundation guys all look the same….
So the best part of the Lou Maltese race is that every every “big team” in NYC got to pick their best 6rides and trow them on an open race in central park and let them them prove and decide h
Who is the best team in the City….so to Founfation the defending champions , congratulations!
I’m Chinese, I’m just getting even for years of ‘those guys all look alike’ jokes.
Foundation was very prepared for this race.
The Invitational Team photos are up. The 4s should be ready later today.

Sprint through the line!
Meran should get picked up by an NRC squad no? Kid never loses. Plus he is 23 and not 29.
Cat 4 photos from the last night FBF race are up.

What, ringers in the Cat 4 Maltese race??? Say it ain’t so!
CBRC might need to send a sprinter down from Albany next time; Their Cat 4 hill climber won the race – that’s the guy who didn’t raise his hands at the line…
my hands, i raised one arm. 2 would be deemed dangerous riding.
as you should well know erik, a two-handed salute is not automatically ruled dangerous riding. there is no rule against two-handed salutes.
Here are the pro123 from FBF race last night.

Yeah he’ll get picked right up. No question.
At least Meran is getting the right exposure now racing NRC, last year he was under the shadow on Mengoni
not a bad response from a soulless cretan. you win.
funny how you completely miss the tour reference in andrea wave ring’s joke yet ask the question about whether we watch the tour.
Cat 4 photos are up.

BORING. I used to race mountain bikes, now I race road. A bunch of roadies on this board are like girls and it confirms what bmx’ers, mtb’ers say about roadies and tri-athegeeks. A bunch of prissy girls. You all on this board sound like some 14 year old school girls the way you gossip and complain about crashing. Same old thing about the same old CRCA teams – Foundation, Jordan, EMS and the list goes on.
Reality check – anyone watching the tour this year? Crashing is part of the sport. It happens. Pick up your balls with your bike next time, HTFU and just ride and quit your complaining. If you have an issue with a rider, have the balls to say something to them at the time it happens to their face instead of posting about it here.
You all need to learn bike handling skills. 80% of you that just ride road can’t handle your bike over potholes, don’t know how to bunnyhop and the slightest breeze will take you down – the ones that complain the most are the biggest girly boys on their fancy bikes.
Can’t believe I tried out a sport made for women!!!
Great post Andrea Wave Ring – short and obviously meant to start some shit.
PS – I saw Andrea Wave Ring doping…
There is rumors that Bin laden is not dead! do you believe them too???
Let’s talk about things we can prove.
Remember when all we talked about was sandbagging. Those were good times.
I miss those times.
I’m pretty sure that over 75% of the people who read this blog would dope if someone gave them the goods for free and without hassle. 85% if you threw in reliable assurance of no long term bad health consequences. 95% if one of their friends told them they did it. 100% if you threw in a comic book.
i’ll admit it – i’d do it under these conditions – I just wouldn’t take the win – but I bet it would feel good to ride that strong –
below is regarding the – if i was giving PED’s post
you’re an idiot. and wrong.
some of us, as cheesy as it sounds, still have beliefs about right and wrong, and still do things, like bike racing, out of love and passion.
bite me you asshole. I need to get the hell out of this cynical town.
Can Eastern Mtn Sports have guys who are not on their team put on their jersey just for the invitational and get ranked. Sort of sounds like roster doping.
Specifically Owen Nielsen and Chad Butts.
Hold it now. I’m just expressing an opinion about human nature. What’s with the personal attack, Enzo? If you changed “dope” to “smoke dope” and talked about Americans under the age of 25, I bet the numbers are about the same. Although you’re correct in that it would never be 100%, because there will always be a moralistic crowd who would rather call a stranger an a-hole than take a banned substance. Not sure which is worse from a moral or societal perspective, but I’ll let you think about that while I’m not biting you.
I heard that a DJ rider was pulled back up to the field by a vehicle after being dropped
Cycling has always had Stagiares…it’s really not so much roster doping if a team uses a couple guests to fill out their roster. In a race like Maltese, if 50% or more of a team are “guests,” it’s a bit of an issue.
HOWEVER, the better question is whether EMS deserved to get approved for Maltese. I don’t know this team at all. The Maltese race is meant to recognize teams that have had some success. That’s of course subjective. Has EMS been getting results?
In Cat1/2/3 No top 5 results and maybe one top 10.
I hope everyone realizes we’re very lucky to have Victor coming to photograph us at races. Now show your support and don’t be a cheapo, you can buy them for as little as $4 !!!
MTB wrecks, while heinous, are 99% of the time pilot error and not because an over-trained under-skilled kook takes you out.
Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for leaving the hate off this page.
It was a great weekend of racing and I hope you all had fun.
These days of summer are so awesome compared to sweating on a trainer in mid-February.
Thanks for posting the results. Was a great day (obviously I’m a bit biased)….but the results don’t tell the whole story. Ride of the day has got to go to Ricky G from Colavita. Unfortunately, he suffered some bad cramps on the last lap…but that kid was an absolute stud out there.
Thanks guys. I actually enjoyed shooting the race and in Central Park. I wish I could photograph the Central Park race more often.
Beg to differ – ride of the day definitely goes to Greg Leach. He started the breakaway 6 miles into the race along with Maurice & Dioslaki and the proceeded to stay in it until the 98th mile when he ended up taking 2nd place. He was driving the breakaway the whole entire time taking more than his share of pulls. Gahmino was also in there the entire time until the end and took 3rd. Dioslaki suffered a similar fate as Ricky Gargulio however he lasted in the breakaway from its inception until approx 91 miles into it when he suffered uncontrollable leg cramps…difference? Dioslaki ended up holding off the main field for an 8th place
Cheeky, great points. Leach is a beast, he rode his ass off. Maurice and I get along really well, and He’s always strong. Never seems to get tired that guy. Dioslaki is the man, I was actually parked right next to him, we were laughing before and after the race….was GREAT riding by all really. I guess as for Ricky, the effort we put in to get across to the break, which at the time was over 3 minutes up the road, is what made me think he had the ride-of-the-day. But, you do have some excellent points. Bottom line, it was a great race…no BS, just fun racing.
Victor, great photos, and yes buying them is super easy and you get to download them immediately!!!
serious question – how do you train for a 98 mile race, as an amateur with a life outside of cycling….
I don’t personally know most of the guys in the top 8 at the NJ RR championshionship, but I have met Dioslaki. Nice guy, job AND family AND over 40. How do you train? Dunno but maybe that explains cramps towards the end. It was hot as a MF that morning too. (I rode the cat 3 race-early break imploded due to the difficult conditions)
How the heck is this guy in the Cat 4 field at Maltese?
http://www.oneimagingphotography.com/Cyclings/Lou-Maltese-Memorial-Race/Cat-4/18087957_PDqQmX#1389698276_hT6k6Hs
Its the guy in the Brauer Mick kit. The guy won the Cat 3/4 handicap race last year, is leading the 3/4 series at Floyd, and was top 10 at Harlem 2/3. Something is funky about this. But I digress: in light of the other sketchy things going on in the NYC scene right now, category hoping seems minor.
nice catch on that one. didn’t really help him at maltese, did it?
Yes, 99% of the mountain bike wrecks are overtrained roadies crossing over to mountain bike racing and lacking technical skills. Roadies are know for endurance, NOT bike handling skills.
A lot of the riders being “overtrained” are being trained on racing. The other riders are NOT being trained and don’t have the fitness or bike skills to race. A lot of the “overtrained” are at the CRCA and other clinics learning about racing. What do you do? Ride your bike and race? What makes you think your skills are all that?
Unless you are the next Danny Macaskill (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cj6ho1-G6tw) you’ve got no bike handling skills so focus on your own skills. If you’re that good, you should be in a higher category. Apply for your upgrade.
serious answer…Cheat in whatever amount of training time you can whenever you can and however you can (weather it be on the bike or off the bike). Kid yourself that you’re not hurtin when you really are no matter what you’re doing (weather it be on the bike or off the bike). Sleep less, train more, and drink more coffee. In the end, its really all about mastering the art of suffering.
Thanks Victor, it is always a pleasure having someone there to photograph us at the time of day we don’t even want to be up. it is greatly appreciated!!
By the way…”Goonigoogoo”…best post name ever!!!
petitr – excellent post!! i think we can all agree to your very well stated response to Cheeeky. Perhaps the biggest Congrats AND best rider of the day award should go to Ryan Petit. After all, he crossed a long gap to join the break and then sent it all home by taking 1st place.
Results of the Kissena Omnium are up on http://www.kissena.info/track
Want to thank everyone who raced the Cat4 NJ RR this weekend for keeping it safe up front. Anybody have any pics of the finish?
Anyone know when registration will open up for this race?
Well if he was the climber from the CBRC, we local Cat 4 sprinters must really suck. I congratulate you on having nothing good to say. Please raise both arms in triumph.
