Hangover 6/28/10

Mellow weekend

Schmalz still away on his sausage tour of Iowa, so let’s review this weekend’s action.

John Loehner of AXA wins the CRCA A race, Leonard Galati of NYVC wins the B race, Andrew Clerico, NYVC, the C race.

Melito Heredia (Innovation) beats out Filip Capala (Capala Bros) and his oh so pro mullet at the Lucarelli and Castaldi Cup. Christopher Barbaria of BVF takes the cat 4 race, Andrew Estevez of Innovation wins the 5’s.

Kissena results to come.

Meanwhile, in other news, the Tour is just around the corner, the Schlecks appear to be leaving Riis, and Cav is knocking off green jersey rivals before the race has even started. Everyone getting excited for the Tour?

ok “sketchy” is uncharitable – many of the women (most of them) are solid riders but there are a couple of regulars who are strong enough but clearly not comfortable in a large pack and very vocal about it. Sorry, but that doesn’t inspire confidence.

But the more important point is why have them in the race if they aren’t really “in” the race. the women’s race is really 1 lap with a 10 lap warmup. Makes no sense.

short race, lousy start time when park gets busy, no results and it’s all the uncooperative women’s fault. Even the former president of kissena realized that only CRCA has any interest in supporting women’s racing

curmudgeon

results will be up today, totally reasonable, and it’s ridiculous for them to complain and criticize about not having their own field, not show up, and be defended with stupid justifications.

curmudgeon

defined the attitude of the entitle ny racer that is so detestable. Have some women start showing and then they’ll get better start times, etc, they aren’t owed that from the start.

Romain Flange

gotta say it’s pretty sucky for the women everyone thinks the race is over for the day and they’re picking their way through rollerbladers.

they should start with the 5s and get enough extra laps to make a real race out of it.

having said that I hate when they race with the Masters. it makes no sense for them to sit in the whole time and race for 1 lap. And when they do mix it up some of them are pretty sketchy and nervous.

curmudgeon

if they did that, people would say ‘it’s not fair you mix em in with the sketchy 5’s’. There is no winning, unless you give em prime spots, which is frickin idiotic to do for 3-10 people.

Jens Locknut

if you were a woman and only 3 others pre-registered for the race would you want to race in that field? we get a better workout racing with the men and if we wanted to do both races we would have to pay for both. too expensive.

men outnumber women racers probably 30 to 1. if a few women decide not to race one weekend it is noticed.

there are few of us who complain about the lack of women’s fields so please don’t lump us together with those who do. most of us are happy to race in any field we can. this isn’t the pro’s people.

Romain Flange

actually, have there even been any crashes in the 5s lately? seems like its always the finish of the 123s.

Jens Locknut

do not call the women who can hang with the masters sketchy. i have raced in every men’s field there is and there are more sketchy men riders than women.

Giovanni Pulley

i’d think one would get a better workout in a smaller field, but i understand it’s more fun in a bigger field, it just sucks for the organizer if he could have sold those spots to men and for those women who stuck with the women’s field.

Vespaciano Neck

What field was the crash in? Guessing B or C since I didn’t recognize.

Were there really 100 starters in the A field? Seems a little even?

Vespaciano Neck

I’ve never experienced any issues with the women who race the men’s fields. Occasionally I find myself bitching to myself when one (and its not often) starts fading and lets a gap open and I have to close it, only to remind myself that it’s my stupid fault for riding in the back. They definitely causing crashes, the men can do that on their own.

Jelle Fork

There was a crash at the finish of the CP C race. The ambulance parked in the last turn and made it hard to see as you came up Cats Paw, which contributed to a crash at the finish of the B race.

Sven Tuftte Transiontional

search for “tour de france” in bikereg but couldn’t find it?
any info on this race, does it sell our quick?

Pat

New plan for ’11 racing season: get a sex change, race the women’s field.

Podium placing here I come!

Mathis Chamois

the crash would have been avoidable had the ambulance set their cones further down the hill. then again, perhaps they were looking for more easy business.

WHY IS NOT POSSIBLE TO MAKE TIME TRIAL COMPETIITONS IN CP?….IS ONLY BECAUSE THE LONG TIME AGO ACCIDENT OR SOMETHING ELSE??/

WHY IS NOT POSSIBLE TO HIT CAPS LOCK OFF?….IS ONLY BECAUSE LARRY FROM IT CAN NO FIX KEYBOARD OR SOMTHING ELSE??/

I race in PP, then go get my mani/pedi and a chair massage. Man’s got to take care of himself.

lorenzo rivnut

No CP TT for CRCA because of the accident that occurred a couple years back. The ban only seems to affect CRCA since they allow the NYC tri to use CP during the day.

No sure why someone else referred to the person who hit the homeless person as a jerk. The accident was not their fault and they were a victim as they also got hurt. The homeless person jumped over a fence after ignoring multiple requests by a marshal to not cross the road.

Andy

I’ve done a few of those. The bike leg occurs later in the day and is almost completely unmarshaled. The average speed of the competitors is waaaay slower, though.
