The weekend’s hectic racing schedule has produced champions and placings aplenty, so let us review these accomplishments and discover how they make us feel.
At the Tour of New York in Prospect Park, Ricky Lowe of Die Hard won the Pro/1/2/3 race in a field sprint, Eddie Espitia of Blue Ribbon/translations.com won the masters race, and I do not know who won the cat 4, 5 or women’s races, as the results file from the race website makes my computer look at the file as if it were a dog looking at a radio. If you won, know who did or can open the results file, please share that info with us, and we send our wishes for a speedy recovery to all who may have hit the ground.
I can also tell you that the Wilmington Whiteface Road Race and NY state road championships happened, but there’s no results listed. I did hear that Dan Chabanov of Adler won the 3/4 race, Kurt Gustafsson of Axis won the 45+ race, and Steve Tinson of Westwood Velo was second in the 55+ race. Results should eventually turn up here.
No word from the Bob Riccio Memorial Tour de Pitman in Pitman, NJ—again, if you won let us know.
At the Nutmeg Classic Criterium: New England Regional Championships and CT State Championships in New Britain, there were many fields and many results to report, so I will give a quick synapsis. Jerry Kallenfels of the U-23 Dutch team won the Pro/1/2/3 race. Arielle Filiberti of Specialied Designs for Women/Bicycle H won the women’s Pro/1/2/3 race. Gavin Robertson of Foundation won the masters 35+ race. Max Lippolis of TARGETRAINING won the masters 40+ race. Aubrey Gordon of Liberty Cycle won the 45+ race. Complete results are here.
At the New Jersey State Masters Road Race Championships, Ed Ceccolini of Pawling Cycle and Sport won the 35+ race. Eric Schlauch of Team Somerset won the 45+ race. Curt Hurst of Liberty Cycle won the 55+ race. Robert Malovany won the 65+ race. Caryl Gale of Deno’s Wonder Wheel won the 35+ race. Full results are here.
No results from the Saranac Lake Downtown Criterium—New York State Championships yet but they should eventually show up here.
No results for the Whaling City Cyclone either, but they should be here when they are posted.
Finally we have the Tour of High Bridge in Highbridge, NJ, which has many results. Roger Aspholm of Westwood Velo won the cat 1/2/3 race. Andrea Luebbe of Human Zoom Cycling won the cat 1/2/3 women’s race. Victor Manuel Lopez Polonia of Innovation Bike won the cat 4/5 race. Wei Chen of the CRCA Junior Development Team won the junior men’s 17-18 race. Erin Korff of Axis won the masters 35+ race, and Kurt Gustafsson, also of Axis won the 45+ race. Results are here.

Congratulations to the Medal Winners!
This weekend is the 10th Annual Bicycle Film Festival. Everyone should come out and support this festival and its filmmakers.
My friend Brian Vernon is debuting his documentary film “The Cyclocross Meeting” about Barry Wick’s travels in Japan and the world famous “Sunday in Hell” will be screening from the original film reel. There’s also a short ten minute documentary on Friday about the Red Hook Criterium.

Stacy Jensen of Kissena won the womens race.
Why is the Bicycle Film Festival scheduled on the same day and time as the Harlem Crit every year? With a little coordination the 2 events could probably help each other but the cycling community seems determined to marginalize a marginal sport.
The harlem crit takes place on sunday. Mostly in the afternoon. Its very possible to race then head downtown have some dinner and hit the sunday night screenings. Or you could attend the screenings on Friday and Saturday witch conflict with the crit even less. There is also a party Wednesday night and an Art show Thursday night. Since the film festival is practically a five day event I think its fair to say that the conflict is minimal and people that are interested in both can and will attend both. It would be awesome if the biggest race taking place on the island of manhattan and the film festival could in the future work together. That being said I plan on racing in Harlem at 4pm and heading down to catch the 8pm screening afterwards. But when I see Mr. Barber I will suggest a collaboration between his festival and the crit in the future as it would only make both events bigger and better.
Why is the RedHookCrit scheduled in between two days of Spring Series every year? With a little coordination the 2 events could probably help each other but the cycling community seems determined to marginalize a marginal sport.
The photo is of turn 2 in the Saranac Lake Downtown Criterium taken by me as I walked the course during the men’s 1/2/3 race.
anyone put it to good use? It looks so plush I might have crashed on purpose just to snuggle.

I heard Will Schneider went top 10 at Prospect. Seems like he’s been getting better and better by the week. Look out!

when 50% of the field is canadian at the “NY State Champs” and virtually none of NY’s better racers are there, that might suggest something about the location… you’d have a better field of NYers if you held the state championships at Housatonic.
while we’re at it, why do housatonic and harlem have to be on the same day?
Not Canadian…Quebecois. Big difference.
but in any case, not from New York
hmmm… i’m pretty sure will schneider wrote that about himself.
give it a rest
