Hangover 5/7/2007

Section head text.

Jiminy happened. Results are here. Empire 4th and 5th with Zmolik and Loehner. JP Kaminski 2nd, Alex Bremer 3rd in the 3s. Mihael’s 3 way with a certain dog and cat is off for now. Mark Alden 2nd in the masters. Bill Moss DOA with a broken derailleur cable?

Colt’s Neck occurred, but I have absolutely no idea what happened. I had an interview with a Mighty Norwegian to contend with.

Accardi wins cat 4 US 40k TT challenge. In other news, sun rises in east this morning.

This page is doubling as our photo dump. Here’s some shots of pink legs, the obligatory Adler sticker shot, and Accardi going nucular.

I raced Doc Reilly last year. Nice course, one shortish wall of a hill. Lots of rollers, one screaming descent into a hard right turn, some not quite climbs. Really low attendence last year in the 3/4. I think the 4/5 was pretty full. Don’t speed on the way home….

Oh Canada

Large contingents coming down from Quebec and Ontario.
Will they make it 2 in a row.
Well represented in Pro/1/2 and Juniors.
30+ pro/1/2 riders from Canada.

Policing in the park

seems to pick up every May – Bike month! I think that means to some officers – lets go ticket some cyclist. I can understand taking lights on main avenues or in crowded intersections but in the park – it’s simply crazy.

2 years ago I got a summons at 8PM – a case of mistaken identity – for allegedly taking a light. 150 bucks – such irony – that the week prior I was risking my life apprehending someone on the north-end of the park that just beat up a young asian male for his Ipod. Risking my life for these very same officers!

I don’t know what to say at this point – I guess don’t ride in the park. Maybe we should all do our rides at FBF and risk getting killed on the way there on Flatbush Avenue.

This city really needs to encourage people riding to work rather than supporting cabs or driving their own cars. I don’t know what Mayor Mike, the Police and Parks Department folk are thinking.

Ray

Champ Sys Fundraiser

Doesn’t go to support Blake – just so you know. If you read where the monies go to – you might have a better idea as to why I am having this event.

This event now has become a mission for me since my son has passed. The hospital we are donating to takes care of so many sick kids – including mine which passed away, and also Stephen Chang’s son who is getting some serious surgery next week. I think supporting the event to support a hospital – is a great thing. And its not like your funds give you no return either.

Henry’s restaurant is providing catering – FREE FOOD lots of it and great too.

The brewery is providing free BEER

Cycles Gladiator is providing free beer

Our ex cyclist – turned into great performer – Alex Calibur Gulla is performing

and we have loads of raffle prizes – just to name a few things.

Not including the raffle-

So its worth it in the end. Consider coming – it is a a great event and every year we have it, people have fun.

Hope to see you there.

Wow so this is what we have:

and…
4) unusable bike lanes
5) grouping of 50 or more requires a permit
6) commercial cyclists are forced to wear helmets while the source of danger goes unchecked,…

On ebay

These are used. Probably about 1000 miles on them. Uniform wear, no tears. They have been glued on a wheelset. Plenty of life left!!!

"They have been glued on a wheelset" – go figure

Can't a NYC rider get a break?

Wow so this is what we have:

1) South Walk of GWB closed
2) Gestapo police bored with a safer NYC cuffing cyclists
3) The West park drives have their surfaces scraped up pending repaving

Riding in this city is really getting to be a drag.

Orcutt

I thought the Whitcomb Hill road race was awesome, and will not go back to boring Jiminy until they bring it back.

Matt S

I sometimes see A-hole cyclist’s literally screaming at people on the loop which is not necessary. Unfortunately one idiot cyclist can offend a pretty large amount of runners/other park users who wind up hating and complaining about us. But the cuffs thing is ridiculous and an abuse of power.

Doc Reilly Memorial Race - Cobleskill NY

Any race this in the past? What is the course like? Similar to say the Capital RR in Ravena?

Anonymous

Biggest problem are joggers in the bike lane. eND OF STORY. iF THEY CLEANED THAT UP THERE WOULD BE FAR LESS ACCIDENTS.

told to get in rec lane?

That’s worth taking a ticket on. It’s BS and I don’t think it would stand.

And the "caused a death" thing is not the reason for the crackdown – if it was, then how come there’s not huge crackdowns on cars in this city, considering cars/drivers kill dozens of people a year.

What time?

Only after the park opens for traffic. 7:30 ish. I’ve seen them almost every day last week and today and their must be something wrong with my timing because I always have to stop just about at the time the light turns red. And you can go slow and clearly indicate that you are about to stop, they still put up their hands and make a scene. I get so annoyed but I know it’s not helping our cause. In the three or four years I’ve used the park to commute through, I’ve seen probably about 5 crashes where cyclists and peds/cars were involved. Most of those, the cyclists were hurt enough for an ambulance to be called. What I do think is that the dog walkers complain to the park’s authorities because they sometimes have to look left and right before jay walking.

I stopped at the light

but in one of the car lanes because I wanted to make an exit at Columbus Circle. I was told to get back into the rec lane for my own safety (they absolutely insisted even after my explanation because I am not allowed to exit at the circle – Only peds are). What do I do when I get to NY city streets I wondered… no rec lanes. We have to face it, we’ve caused a death (officially we are the number two from the bottom killer, only shark attack deaths in the Hudson river still less than CP cyclists). They hate us. We are assholes in spandex. Well maybe we are.

What time were they stopping people??

I’ve never seen them out before 7am. Just want to know whether I need to be on the lookout…

Brownlie

I guess this is the strategy

When the kick you out of the tour moments before the start, you go peacefully. Then when the Italian Olympic Committee throw out the case, you don’t say a word. You might only have one chance to win a TdF but you’re not angry. You just sign with Discovery and let bygones be bygones. Then when they do get access to the evidence, you admit that the blood is yours but you did not use it. They have no proof that you did. You did not fail any urine or blood tests. A retroactive 2 year ban because you cooperated well and then you race again in 2008.

lee3

On my commute this morning I ride past that intersection, however, I enter @ W72nd and just stay on the right side. I didnt see the stop point until I blew the light because there was traffic blocking my view. I only look right and maybe a lane left before I continue at a speed that I know i can stop if I needed to. I dont think the fuzz saw me either because they had some dude in a bright orange kit stopped and probably to busy lecturing on the bike laws. I leave @ the broadway intersection – and no one chased me down (thankgod).

Cha Cha

Lance sighting on GWB about 1 hr ago. Plenty of volunteers behind him to carry the bike over the stairs.

Cha Cha

TH

also, what the hell is wrong with NYC? this place used to be cool. handcuffed for riding a bike in the park?

what’s the bigger danger here? a dude going 15 mph on a bike? or a cop driving full speed through a crowded park to stop him. ass hats.

I'm surprised Will did not get arrested for speeding

Saw him spinning a light gear moving well past the 15 MPH bike speed limit

It’s so obvious you have to stop when you see 4 Park Rangers waiting at the light and 4 more 100 meters down the road. Some riders are so arrogant, not referring to our talented law abiding FruityTuda’s Frishmeir.

TH

Basso is full of shit. come, on.

he expects us to believe that he raced clean in the giro (completely and utterly stomping the competition) and only then was going to start doping prior to the biggest and most important race.

anyone with half a brain knows that you don’t just start up a doping program at the last minute. he would have to test and see how his body reacts well before. it would seem that the giro provided a good place to fine tune things before the tour.

Will, what time were these events in the park?

I have to wonder, when was the last time a car driver was handcuffed for running a red light?

Anonymous

Sounds like he was handcuffed for ignoring a police order to stop, not for running the light.

CRCA TT Champs

I’m guessing the CRCA had a very limited number of dates to pick from, you guys complain about everything!

FYI Central Park...again

The parks dept. had a checkpoint up by Tavern this morning and were making people come to a full stop at the light there. Some guy ran the light (slowly) and kept riding when the police asked him to stop. About a mile later, a parks dept. car came flying past me, pulled up to the rider who went through the light, made him stop and cuffed him. What a sweet way to have your morning ride cut short.
Just a head’s up.

adm

Well hopefully you managed to enjoy the day. You (we) have to cut some slack to the kids who promote the collegiate races. Those guys are what, 19, 20? Busy training, racing, studying, smoking stuff, "dating", and the like. Can’t imagine why they’d care too much about catering to the wishes of 20-, 30-, 40- somethings from downstate. It’s a great opportunity to throw a fun race, but ultimately they don’t seem to have the motivation it takes. Can’t say I blame them. If it wasn’t on a ski slope or a woman, I didn’t really care too much about "details" when in college either.

JG

Adm – I guess that was my point. I stayed up for the Willams Crit after Jiminy and was very dissapointed with the turn out, the organization and the course. A course that difficult and lacking in fun with only 24 in the 3/4s is not worth staying for. Would rather have slept in. The event also had no markings as to how to get to the registration. This is not a well run race.

Cali?

Didn’t Basso race with Discovery at Tour of California?
Or is it that Tour of Calif isn’t considered a race? Considering that Basso is trying to work out a deal to make hime eligible for 2008 Giro based on time already spent not racing, it seems that there is large agreement that Tour of California does not count as a race.

TT date

Bike reg shows CRCA TT same date as NJ TT Champs. CRCA could probably have chosen a better date to avoid this conflict, as many riders would probably like to do both.

adm

I’ve never been to the W Crit, but I did the Whitcomb Hill Climb a few years ago which was also promoted by the Williams Cycling team. It was a ridiculously hard course that wasn’t very fun to race. I think the kids at Williams are either too smart or too stoned for their own good. The day after Jiminy is a great race date up there. They should try and promote a race that people would enjoy staying for.

Williams Crit

no race is good if the field is too small. 40 or 50 riders is about right to make the Williams event good — too big and people lining up at the back would basically be dropped on the line. Too small and it’s too harsh.

JG's comment on the Williams Crit

I’ll provide interpretation:
The course is challenging and unusual– you can’t just roll around, you have to pay attention and use other skills. It’s not like Central Park, so it’s better to stay home.

JG

To clarify – this race is tough as balls. I do not want to take anything away from those who race it and do well. I got shelled halfway through the race. The thing is I was not having fun the entire time I was in it. I come from a BMX and Mtn bike background and feel that I have decent handling skills. With this said, when I travel to do a race I place fun, field size and a quality course as high priorties. In my opinion and its only that, this course/ race is not fun and the turn out is pathetic (that is one point you cannot argue).

Finally, great effort to those that win this race because it is very tough.

Phone Home

Last year after the Giro, Simoni called Basso an Extra-Terrestrial. That seems to be some kind of Italian accusation of doping.

Guess he was right. Of course Basso now claims he only planned to dope at last year’s Tour and that he never doped in the past. I’m just glad that Discovery found this out before he ever raced for them.

bizarre style on results at Colt's Neck

With consistent but made up abbreviations of team/club names. Did that race use an online registration service?

The results format is like Spring Series style on steroids

JG

Williams Crit sucks big time. Nothing like hitting speed grooves on a twisting downhill at 30plus mph and the coming around the only straight away just to dodge f*&ked up man hole covers and broken down pavement. The turn outs are pathetic – 3/4 had 24 guys with 13 finishing. That is not a good race. The women had less then 10 so no upgrades for them and the 4/5s were all over. The race may be challenging but not fun and it has a poor showing. I would recommend skipping the race and saving the $20 as it feels more like a race around the block with BMX bikes when you were 10 rather then a road race.

williams fan

that’s bullshit.

williams was always one of my favorite collegiate races. the course is very technical. if you don’t pay attention, or are a weak bike handler this course will spit you out very fast. you have to be a great bike handler, be strong and have balls of steel to do well on this course.

love/hate Williams

It’s a great course, but you have to know what you’re getting into before going — very technical and you have to be "on" the whole time.

I liked racing there despite (because of?) getting my butt kicked routinely. Haven’t done it in a while as I can’t spend so much time away from home.

Anonymous

Williams Crit is a terrible race. Half the feild drops out due to the miserable course and low turn out. Not worth sticking around for the day after Jiminy.

I don’t know who Coach L is, but this stuff Kevin Lippert is hilarious

"My mom and dad found that King Charlemagne was my great-grand father 37 generations back. I thought it was pretty cool that I am a direct descendent of a famous king. They also found out that if you go up 14 generations to a common ancestor and down 14 generations, I am Princess Diana’s cousin"

http://www.kevinlippert.com/about.php

Stan Oldak

Not to bring you guys down, but if you haven’t seen it on the NYCC message board, Stan Oldak, previous president of the NYCC and a real nice guy, was killed by a hit and run truck driver on a brevet ride in Texas.

LemonFreshScent

Seeing we are now giving each other advice, do any of you need advice on how to pick up women? I have a lot of experience, and hot tips. Lets face you guys could use the help. Let me know what you think.

THE TROOF

Funny all you fucktard sheep posturing & bullshitting about a halfass halfwit race ("a tradition") like Jiminy when you COULD have travelled the same distance or a bit less & raced Turkey Hill, with FULL road closure, better weather AND free ice cream.

But oh, you city kids are so "sophisticated." Wake the fuck up, dorks.

THE TROOF

LemonFreshScent

BTW, I think Coach L or Kevin Lippert or whoevers ideas on visualization are right on the mark. I use visualization techniques in all aspects of my life and they really do work. For those who were quick to dismiss what Coach L had to say, shame on you.

If the guys ahead of me cut the course

I should have won.

But unless there is some evidence beyond just "I heard" it’s pure speculation.

Why are all of you so proud

of your geographical residence? Jersey still smells, no matter how well they do in the races.

best excuse to not win a race.

But, there was no protest from us (since we didn’t know that story at the time), so Bremer took 3rd." If thats true, that sucks. Bremer should have won.

Coach MNOP

Please don’t lump me in the same basket as Coach L. I’m in no way associated with him.
I know I could be percieved as being greedy taking 4 letters but I am planning on expanding my business, bringing on some associate coaches and wanted to reserve the space.

Anonymous

I really like the fact that my parents were so involved with our family genealogy. My mom and dad found that King Charlemagne was my great-grand father 37 generations back. I thought it was pretty cool that I am a direct descendent of a famous king. They also found out that if you go up 14 generations to a common ancestor and down 14 generations, I am Princess Diana’s cousin. The weird thing is, our birthdays were only a couple of months apart. So do you think I should I call Prince William, "Cuz"? I am also a distant cousin of Humphrey Bogart. Pretty wild, huh?

Anonymous

Though I haven’t a college degree in health science or exercise physiology. I do have an Advanced Personal Trainer Certification through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and I am an Elite Level Licensed Cycling Coach through USA Cycling (the national governing body of cycling in the United States). I am what you would call more of a self-taught man, like my uncle (who invented the number door locks you see on Ford cars and worked at NASA with most of our countries space exploration program)

Olsen

The busted Lightweight is mine. They are a very strong set of wheels until you pass a blown up rider in the final sprint hill at Jiminy as he veers to his left and places his pedal into your spokes.
Lightweight is giving me a "discount" on a new rear wheel since it is beyond repair, though they will go on EBay as a set as soon as it comes in.

Anonymous

Is Kevin Lippert for real or is he a spoof of all the stupid cycling coaches?

Coach L, don’t go away. We didn’t mean it. I actually think you had some good things to say.

See? Coach L can't help it

Your cutting edge visualisation talk?
Now I’m imagining you keeping all your stupid shit to yourself.
Oooh! I’m ahead of time!

Coach L

OK, everyone. I get the picture. I’ll tone it down a little bit. I didn’t realize I was causing so much trouble. Double apologies to the hosts of the site – Guess I didn’t think much about how I was getting something for free at their expense. I really thought I was helping you guys out. At this point, and after all the heat I’ve taken here today, I don’t think it would be wise to reveal my identity. My business could be in jeopardy – I hope you can appreciate what that would be like for me. From now on, I’ll keep the cutting edge visualization talk out of the discussions and not solicit business on the site, and keep this purely in a freindly advice sort of way. Again – I’m really sorry. Thanks for bearing with me. Maybe I’ll see some of you at Superweek.

calling out coaches, the proper way

Asking them their category or racing accomplishments is not the key thing. You should ask them their accomplishments as coaches.

Inspector Clouseau

I believe Coach L is Kevin Lippert.

I am also close to solving the mystery of the missing Zipp.

Coach L,M,N, O, P and Q

Name please? Who are you? What team? Results, cat1,2,3 or ex pro? Agree with Schmalz, slightly obnoxious tone, didactic and patronizing too.

stuff happens that's hard to predict

that’s why it’s called "racing" and not "What’s your watts at LT divided by weight? Oh, that gives you sixth place."

One year at Killington the women’s field caught and passed the pro-1-2 men’s field in a road stage.

Jiminy Participant

Adler rocks!! They did lots in the 4’s and 3’s until the crash, I think lightweight Adler, otherwise Adler put their balls on the line and noses in the wind.

To Mitch

So what did you do in the race? There was quite a few guys from NYC who made this race more interesting then a certain eastern mass race the previous Sunday. By keeping the pace up and trying to prevent a clusterfuck repeat of last weekend a select crew of NYC riders made this the most enjoyable race of the season so far. So what if we didn’t win, NYC teams represented themselves well.

But, then again if you just sucked wheels at the back for 2 hours you wouldn’t know that.

Actually, the pro field was rolling around really slowly for the first lap and was, at one point, only 30 seconds up on the cat 3 race.

To Mike Berk, yes thanks for the help and the assistance. I was cooked and thought I’d hang on until the finish. We certainly gave it our all. Beers after Bear? You in? And Giro watching too, beers in hand….

Great race, Saturday

Cat 3 Break

Dude – JP is a class guy and would not do that. Plus, I doubt the support car would have allowed that without notifying the officials. Finally, I doubt JP and one junior would have cought the Pro field on there own. Get a grip.

"Bremer and myself rode a pretty good race this past Saturday at Jiminy Peak. Two guys rolled off the front 500m into the race and stayed away all day. Can’t beleive it. I heard they rolled around with the P12 field all day and then dropped off for the last few miles. If thats true, that sucks. Bremer should have won. But, there was no protest from us (since we didn’t know that story at the time), so Bremer took 3rd."

"I’ve actually received a lot of good feedback from my posts on this site. I’ve also used it successfully as a marketing tool to get a good chunk of my business."

To me that’s the most offensive thing I’ve read from Coach L. You were just using us? There’s these things called ads….

Anonymous

Coach L, it’s time to get off your high horse. It’s not the long posts, its the over-the-top didactic tone that I am most amazed by. Are you a former US pro champ? Perhaps a winner of a few World Cup races? If so, great, but you still sound obnoxious. If not, well everyone else has pretty much covered that already, so I’m sure you get the point.

To Mr. Mitch

There will always be a-holes in life. Particularly in this sport who thrive on success and need to constantly feed their egos. But in the end we all suck if we are only just racing 3s and 4s in the northeast. Dont let it get you down. Just keep on enjoying the ride. I got dropped on the last lap and had a great time riding solo up the finish. If you are going to finish out of the top 20 make sure it is a solo for all the cheers.

Jiminy

Funny there is no Mitch in the 4s results – maybe you are one of the unknown riders not even worthy of mention in the results.

Mitch

I am misunderstood. I thought there were others here who were sick and tired of the big mouths in the fancy uniforms. I love bike racing and I admire the guys who do well. I admire the guys like me who dont do well but enjoy it anyway. But Im sick and tired of the blow holes who aren’t any better than most of us but still ride around beating their chests and blabing about power numbers and elusive upgrade points. Enough is enough. Sorry if I offended or saddened any of you.

Anonymous

Hey Coach L, the ATF is wondering where your cult compound is located. Dont sulk too hard you narcissistic freak.

Coach L

Guys (and girls),
Sorry to those of you who I’ve offended or whose time I’ve wasted. I’ve actually received a lot of good feedback from my posts on this site. I’ve also used it successfully as a marketing tool to get a good chunk of my business. I’d honestly felt that offering free advice was a way to give back to the community that has given so much to me. I have 2 children, 1 approaching college age, and I’m fortunate to be able to pay the bills by doing something I love. I would go so far as to say I’m overjoyed by it. I’ll try to keep the posts more concise in the future, but let me just say thank you again for the opportunity to share my cycling insights with you.
Coach L

JG

Mitch – I was in the 4s and not up front or in the back just sitting in the middle of the pack enjoying the ride, the weather and the sound of the pack busting there asses. The difference between you and the rest of us is that even though you suck you still put down others who are just out to have fun. I suck and am ussually last on my team in the placings but I show the peloton respect from 1st place to last. You just dont get it man.

Anonymous

I rode a bike once while tripping. I wouldn’t recommend it as the scars on my scalp will attest.

Mitch

I was not sucking wheels at the back. I was just sucking. The difference between sucking in the rear of the pack and sucking at the front of the pack is that the guys sucking at the front think they are not sucking. But make no mistake. They still suck. I know this because they usually finish with me and as I said, I suck. The only difference is they need an excuse. So they go to the front and work really hard until their suckiness outshines their enthusiasm. At the end of the race, they look a lot like me. Sucky. I don’t make the excuses. I just suck because I suck. You other guys who suck should just admit it. JP does not suck. He never did.

Chris M

Jesus, this site is a freak show today. Lets review:

Mitch is slow, AND mean. Oh, and wrong. Who around here is blogging about how great they are? Other than CCC, I guess, who apparently did in fact do well, even if someone presumably on the team (or their mom?) felt the need to point it out to a bunch of guys who already know it without any reminders of the site of JP and Warchol’s NY’r asses fading into the distance as the finish line approached…

Coach L is truly wierd, and possibly not stable – and def creeping me out. Thanks for pointing out that New Mexico is between CO and Mexico though. So relieved too to know that a couple of unknown and unnamed guys in the pack that might go a tad slower this month are only doing so because they might be on break from Coach Ls channeling mind-lock. Wow.

Hey Mitch – go ride a bike – I hear its de-stressing…and might make you a little faster.
Coach L – get a grip my man. Spandex isnt the new tie-dye.

Oh, and as a reminder, Im still just mediocre pack fill year-to-date, but still not afraid to sign my name…
Chris

JP Kaminski

I gotta tell ye that Jr. 3 is already a stud cant wait to see him in a few years in the pros. On the final long climb before the finish climb he cracked me good with a hard attack as we crested the hill. The Jr. is a real deal

LemonFreshScent

On tune with Coach L’s visualization techniques I often visualize myself making love to a beautiful woman at beginning of a race. I do this because it reminds me not to go out and attack right away because a race is like making love. You want to start off with some foreplay and then build up to full on intercourse. You don’t want to "blow your load" on the first lap of a multi-lap crit by attacking from the gun. Everyone should try my technique, especially Mitch.

Thanks Coach L

He only posts every once in a while and when he does, he usually has something good to say. He doesn’t mince words and tells it how it his. Sure, some of his methods are unorthodox, but it seems to really make sense. Agreed, he’s a little presumptuous when giving specific advice, but he probably assumes a fairly high level of specificity in training – if you weren’t on some sort of a program, you wouldn’t be reading his post all the way through. Besides, if you don’t like what he has to say, just don’t read his posts.

To Mitch

So what did you do in the race? There was quite a few guys from NYC who made this race more interesting then a certain eastern mass race the previous Sunday. By keeping the pace up and trying to prevent a clusterfuck repeat of last weekend a select crew of NYC riders made this the most enjoyable race of the season so far. major mistake

In coaching is to suggest things w/o knowing the circumstances and goals of the person you’re talking to.

Eg: "Anyway, I’d like for you all to consider taking a break sometime in May or June before your final ramp-up. "

This might be true for the "average NYC area rider" if such a thing exists, but is way to general to have much value.

Mitch

Mitch – why are you so concerned what other racers are doing. If you are not winning then you have no right to talk down others at any race at any level. Who cares what the NYC guys are doing. Half the Adler team is from NJ I think so do they not count as a NY team. As long as the racers are having fun and racing hard it should not matter b/c we all suck in the grand scheme of things. NYC racing is a joke compared to the club level races out west.

Mitch you are joke…

Neo-pro

I guess the guy who won the 3s was not pro but races with a strong pro – development squad out of Quebec. This is the team that took Battenkill Pro, 1,2. The kid who won the 3s on Devinci was a Junior 3.

Is LSD a banned performance enhancing drug? Are Coach L’s athlete’s being tested for it?

I was at the race. I didnt come in the top 10 or 15

I think that’s the only salient fact here. Happy trails…

Mitch

"1st – Keltic CT guy who races in NYC quite often." Does he live in NYC or not?

"5th and 6th both WC racers". Yes. WC. Not NYC. I’ll give you the Bronx person, but CCC is not a NYC team.

"Not to mention the NYC guys set the tempo the whole race for the 4s." These are the guys I was talking about. They lost. PRobably too busy looking at their power numbers to get to the finish line first.

"For the 3s – JP in second". JP is consistently at top. Does he live in NYC? Races for CT team. That’s not in NYC.

I think my facts are correct. Your delusional.

I was at the race. I didnt come in the top 10 or 15. But I also don’t show up on this website or write a blog about how good I am. I just suck. I can admit it.

1st – Keltic CT guy who races in NYC quite often. 3rd – Warchol from the Bronx (CCC), 5th and 6th both WC racers (Jordan C of DC Racing and Gabriel Gentile of Cafeteros). Not to mention the NYC guys set the tempo the whole race for the 4s. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you criticize all busting there ass Saturday to have a good time.

For the 3s – JP in second behind a neo-pro (Devinci-EVO rider form Quebec). Where did you place this weekend?

Coach L

Hey gang,

I just got off the plane from Tour of the Gila, a really hard stage race in New Mexico, between Colorado and the Mexican border. I had a couple of my midwestern guys doing their first mountain stage race, and boy what a stage race it was. I’ve been preaching to a silent choir, the virtures of a good visualization program, and Gila was a testament to the power of that. I saw nonbelievers wane and wither as the days went on, while my guys seemed to get stronger. Of course this could have something to do with their training, particularly their "Coach L-T Intervals" but all commented on how the visualization helped out. It was hard having 4 guys to visualize, and toward the end, I really had to channel hard, but we got it done. The trick was to have a rigid schedule for who was eating, showering, getting massage, and visualizing. It’ll only get tougher next year since several of my guys (and 1 girl) got the upgrade points needed to do a higher category.

For the final stage, and the uphill finish, we took the power meters off to save weight, but with my software package, I was able to calculate average watts on the hill based on weight and time. It really does help to not have to carry one of those things up a climb and I figure the weight savings saved us 3 seconds per mile per 10% of grade – which made the difference between 3rd and 4th for one of my guys on one of the days.

Anyway, I’d like for you all to consider taking a break sometime in May or June before your final ramp-up. Sometimes some good old fashioned rest is just what the body needs. My guys (and girls) may look a little slower at the races in the coming weeks, but it is because they are resting and not at max LT for the races. But don’t kid yourselves – these guys are good. And their training is right on schedule.

Looking forward to seeing you at the races,
Coach L

someone cares about results?

Wow, Mitch…who would "they" be who care so deeply about the 3/4 results?

And by the way, 3rd place in the 4s was a NYCer (unless for some reason you don’t count the Bronx as NYC); 5th and 6th place were NYC suburbanites. Not close enough?

Mitch

NYC cat 4s and 5s didn’t produce at Jiminy. Pathetic. You guys better put your power meters away and get serious and learn how to get results. Nobody cares how great your watts are. They want results. Without results, you may as well be tri-guy. Until you start getting results, go away and keep your panzy ass traps shut.

Pretty much the same for the 3s. You clowns can’t expect Adler to represent week in/out. Lucky thing Bremer took a study break to represent. You guys stink.

TS

Those cooling towers were scary. Coming back I could see them with steam pouring out of the top of one of them. It was so completely incongruous to ride next to a 100+ year old farm with stately trees and then look over my shoulder to see a nuclear reactor.

Ugly

Congrats to JP and the CCC crew. Those guys are the Westwood of the North, so mark them like hell.

No Bear or Beer for me, as I’m still on antibiotics and haven’t touched the bike. I’m going to focus on my golf game in prep for the Adler Invitational in June.

Ugly

Also – big up’s to Alex Bremmer. He’s a Columbia undergrad and is getting it done even during finals week! See you in Panama City.

to aa

nice job. you should be soloing off the front of every cat 4 field if you’re that strong. let’s see some more attacks. go all jacky durand on the 4’s!

cccc

some of the CT area racers are WAY faster than you new york guys. show a little respect guys… CT coast has an RV too…

If you are so big that you have an RV, then two Somali brides, and 5 goat calves, my final offer.

Lenny

"cat 4 break"
Mike – nice job by you and O’Malley. Your teammate was doing a nice job blocking. I thought about trying to bridge to you guys, but decided to rally the troops to chase instead.
Maybe next time I’ll go with you. Nice race.

Ugli Admits Responsibility

According to an official statement released by the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) on Monday, Christoph Uglietti has admitted his involvement in the Operaci

shaw

so ugli gives himself ecoli right before bear to lose some weight? adler prepares smart for a race.

hope you feel better by the weekend.

No CCC Hate...

JP and Jon W. are Monsters. They deserve any promotion they get self or otherwise…

Team with Turquoise and Vertical Stripe kit in the 4s = DC Racing

PS. I live in brooklyn and don’t race on CCC

cat 4 break

Lenny…that was me in the turquoise and stripes (those are the new DC Racing kits); O’Malley was the Adler off the front with me; w gave it our all to get out of sight and I ended up staying away by myself until the finishing climb, where, alas, I got caught. Man, that hurt; looking forward to doing it again next year.

And congrats to Anthony! Awesome work.

CCC is welcome on this site CT is like our friendly neighbor, but can the self promotion. its like school on sunday. No class.

About Ugli

Chris spend 2 days in the hospital last week – some sort of bad intestinal infection. He’s a lot better now and will probably return to racing in June.

marcinko

Heard chris/adler is not feeling too well. get better man! hope to see you out there soon. remax dudes are strong. thanks for beating the crap out of me.

AA

Settel did in fact win the 40+ and was 7th overall….it was a hard course with plenty of rolling hills and pretty nasty head wind on the way back. I never thought I’d be so glad to be heading towards Three Mile Island as I was at the end of that damn TT. Those cooling towers are a lovely sight after 24 miles.

Lenny

I thought Adler rode a good race in the cat4 at Jiminy. They attacked several times on the last lap, and blocked. In the last few miles they had 1 guy up the road with someone from another team (turquoise kit with vertical stripes??). They had a good gap and were blocking well. It almost worked, and I give them a lot of credit for trying. The field was pretty slow to react.

Chris M

Accardi is my hero – married guy with kids and kicks ass on the young dudes. Nice going man! I saw Accardi teammate A. "Hungry" Wolfe out in PA on Sat where he rolled in well ahead of much of the field in the pro-1-2-3 race. Nice job Aaron…

Mr. Burns

There’s just something ex-cellent about racing under the shadow of a nuclear power plant.

Hey "CCC"

WTF. Last time I checked this is "NY" Velocity. Go get your own site. Nobody here cares about CT racing.

40k

I think Tony Settel won the 40+ in the TT, and got something like 7th overall (beaten by 4 pros and a couple of others).

Accardi=Stuey

Accardi is a ringer for O’Grady in that pic. Nice job, Anthony! Gives hope to us "old" guys.

Cat 4s at Jiminy

Adler killed themselves at the front for most of race and lost the legs at the end. Good work to Adler. Also nice break to Mike B on lap 3 of the 4s.
