Jersey! Jersey! Jersey! So much action from New Jersey this weekend! Let’s start at the beginning at Friday’s Manville Madness Crit, with Dan Hoffman of Westwood taking the win in the 3/4 race.Â
On Saturday, Mighty Marcus Dahllof of Merrill Lynch wins the 2/3 race at the US Bicycling Hall of Fame Super Saturday Crit. In the 3 race, Brian Urso of Gotham wins, and Adam Duncan of Razorfish misses the podium by one spot in the cat 4 race. In the women’s race, Caryl Gale of Comedy Central-Sid’s finishes second. In the very pro Hills of Somerset Road Race, Valeriy Kobzarenko of Team Type 1 wins, one place ahead of his teammate Glen Chadwick. Â
Sunday at Bound Brook, Eric Schildge of Fiordfrutta wins the Pro/1/2 race; while Dan Hoffman of Westwood continues his dominance of the 3/4ths racing, with a win over James Joseph of WS United. In the master’s race, Edgar Pimental wins, with Juan Pimental of Global Locate third and teammate Gary Steinberg fourth.
Finally at the Tour of Somerville on Monday, Lucas Sebastian Haedo of Colavita wins the Pro/cat 1 race. In the cat 2 race, Eric Tremble of Kenda/Raleigh shivers his way to the win, with Edwin Morel of Toga third. The cat 3 race seems to be populated by an entire field of DNFs – so if you have an explanation, please let us know. In the women’s cat 1/2 race, Tina Mayolo-Pic of Colavita wins.

thanks for head’s up on FBF. if canceled due to flooding, any idea by what time?
no mengoni at Somerville? whats up.
There was a big crash in the 3’s race at the S/F area with about 3 to go. Wasn’t there but I heard they were thinking of neutralizing the race because they might not get all the carnage out of the way in time. That may account for all the DNF’s
they list 16 or so DNFs and no finishers. Looks like somebody dropped the ball entering the results. I’m pretty sure I finished.
Im pretty sure this thread isnt picking up momentum.
Sound of crickets.
Oooh, your PRETTY SURE you got to the end of that TOUGH 30-minute Cat 3 race and nobody recorded teh result …. THERE IS NO JUSTICE! How are we supposed to know what a HARD CORE bike racer you are for riding around in circles in a PACK for half an hour?

As you might have heard – Lucretia took a nasty dive at Somerville and will be requiring an operation of her elbow today. She will be at NY-Pres hospital ,and will
undergo ORIF which stands for open reduction / internal fixation: rods + Screws. Please wish her a speedy recovery and encouragement to get back on her bike when she has mended.
Stay safe.
Isn’t amaury and rafael DNS’ing evidence enough? See if they show up to floyd…
It takes time for these things to go public… the link will be out there soon enough. They are out for a year. No lie.

this is where it would/will be soon enough, and will list reasons why and for how long.
dubious distinction, Mr. I, Charlie…care to comment?

Its true.
As a race day coordinator for FBF and Prospect Park I was informed by Alan Atwood, who told me IN PERSON last week, that they are under suspension for at least a year.
He got an email from Shawn Farrell who is the technical director at USAC.
David Sommerville
man, mengoni better start paddling dominicans over here at a faster rate. they’re going to run out by the end of the season!!
are we missing comments…? out for a year? why? ….are idiots really dopping at our silly local races…?
Mengoni will be holding open try outs in ft. Washington tonight…
I thought it was another boring mon/Tuesday…
Do you really think they aren’t?
Mengoni suspensions are not drug related.
out a little farther than our “silly local races”, but still disappointing.
To all:
I DO NOT know why they cannot ride.
Was just told they were suspended “for at least a year” and not to allow entry.
Best,
they skipped out on pan-am games because there was testing. dominican cycling.org wasn’t amused and slapped them both with suspensions.
that’s what i heard anyway
as in – i have no proof – but take it for what it is (hearsay)
I heard they got suspended cause judy miller caught em without their helmets on, and called the DR.
not drug related? Really? what else are they gonna get suspended for?
If not doping related, what other infraction could there be? Bike equipment? – doubtful. Administrative conduct errors?
LMAO
The helmet comment is awesome!
It’s too bad. They took on a couple of promising jr’s this season. I hope the team doesnt suffer much due to the ill-fated actions of thier teammates.
What exactly is the DR Cycling Federation and how would THEY be in a position to know something – anything? Im picturing a dude sitting under a tree in front of a little straw hut with DRCF sign swinging in the breeze. Yeeeeah, mon! Too funny. What about USCF, an only VERY slightly more legit organization?
Mengoni, Mengoni, what a shame! 3 local suspensions since last year, all coming from the same team of GS Mengoni. Time to shut down and spare NYC of any further embarrassment. I wonder if the team will continue to deny any knowledge of the activities of its members. This is sad.
really fast guys dope. not exactly a newsflash.
It’s tough to get drugs in the DR
for the record… cycling is a much bigger deal in DR than it is here. in fact, USCF is more the joke organization.
riders like Amouri get hooked up to the NINES in DR. with bikes, travel and racing fees, money, hookers, you name it.
these guys are not that fast. Which is why is idiotic.
amouri is pretty fucking fast dude. get a clue.
doping is idiotic at any speed.
you people have something to rant about today, i was getting worried
you probably risk more with your carbon handlebar, stem, steerer, crown, fork and front wheel combo than you do with a moderate level of pharmaceutical enhancement.
JT – can i get a ratio comparison to riding without a helmet?
Harlem is going to ROCK!!!
http://www.skyscraper-harlembikerace.com/
I guess that says something about the local racing. Guys need a little “assistance” to be competitive around here.
you don’t need assistance to be competitive. to win every race every week – it probably helps.
mens’ 4 race, 30 minutes. men’s 3 race, 50 minutes. messenger race, 30 minutes. women’s pro race, 30 minutes.
what’s dumber; doing drugs or riding with a helmet?
Hoffman’s beard just upgraded to Cat 2
Tough to get drugs in the DR? Tough if you dont have shoes to walk to the farmacia….
How do i get my team invited? We have won this race and every race in the area for years. don’t listen to the riff raff comments about how we do it.
Hey, why not. When’s the next time Im gonna be visiting the DR/Haiti?
Bad Idea…
there might be a minimum number of riders needed that aren’t currently under suspension…..you may not have enough eligible guys anymore.
Its ok, cause drugs are easy to get there, even for VD.
I cant wait to read the bland denial PR release from Mr. I on this one.
They still have a dope pictured on their site’s banner:
http://www.gsmengoniusa.com/roster.htm
a dope picture?
be careful tonight at floyd you might get ZAPPED
Not really all that sad, after getting reamed by him all last season…..

Is there anything you could do to get banned that doesnt involve using drugs or skipping a test? This is a serious question
riding into the jogger’s lane during a club race
Fighting, well, fighting in the US. I doubt DR would give a fuck.
Not much you can do in the eyes of the UCI to get a suspension thats not drug related.
It’s not ablut drugs but I’ll leave that to the Mengoni team to explain.
But once again a lot of you show that you’re nothing but bunch of dumb pricks.
refusing to obey
instructions/officials
attempted/successful fraudulent entry into a race
entering a club race if you’re not a club member
betting on a race (if you’re an official)
theft, fraud, grossly unsportsmanlike conduct
competing under an assumed name
cheating
foul/abusive language during a race
making an abrupt motion which causes a crash
causing a crash through inadequate tightening or adjustment of a
bicycle component, including gluing of tires
violating center line with flagrant, dangerous attack
assisting riders from other teams (loan/exchange of tires, wheels, bikes)
etc. etc. etc.
is solid as a rock now, thanks assholes
well, if the rumor is a no-show to the Pan -Am games, knowing anti-doping testing was scheduled, that can be considered a positive test. So, no, its about them not showing up supposedly, but, its about drugs. can someone say micheal rassmussen?

Since we’re hating on everything today that Cat III results are up.
yup… each year it becomes more likely that if and when a kid (particularly one of dominican descent) comes up through the NYC racing scene with the talent to really make it, even if he races clean as a whistle, the pro teams will be looking at him and saying “yeah right, those guys are dirty as hell.”
this isn’t all that bad. compare it to jared news and it’s pretty tame.
Yes, two guys getting 1 year is much better than one guy getting 2. I totally agree.
To be frank, You aren’t gonna find many people racing anywhere south of the rio grande that are clean, whistling or not.
i’ve burnt out by june before. really it’s like two half year suspensions…
Its not the NYC bad rep, I think its more an Elite cycling rep thats bad, just so happens, New yorkers are idiots.
I disagree with teams assuming their jr talent is tainted because of the more senior athletes doping results. If Mengoni’s Jr riders pass the controls and are subsequently clean guys, there should be no problems with them getting a contract from other pro teams.
Bunde interview on this site. A serious discussion on what went down. Regrets etc. No hate just an understanding of why a local athelete at this level would jeapordize all that he loves and has going for him.
I’ve seen guys cited for things like “unsafe equipment” and told not to come back for a few weeks after rolling a tubular and causing pile ups at T-Town. Completely appropriate in my opinion.
The real question is why our MoMA is all fired up about this. Separation anxiety, with Van Gogh’s Starry Night heading to summer camp at Yale next week?
cmon…most of you people are and were quite rude with the comments that ran here. I wouldnt grant any interview here only to get flamed to the nth degree. I hope JB makes a clean comeback within OUR community without the un-due crap that many dont have the balls to say to his face.
Bunde didn’t do it and his explanation is forthcoming.
i’m waiting for mengoni to explain it.
everyone starts out as a “local athlete” “at this level”…then you dope and go pro. Pretty standard really.
Where’s Alberto Blanco been?
he went pro
It’s been a few weeks since I’ve read comments on this site, and today I decided to read through this thread. I have good timing, no?
Apparently, the DR national team arranged for Amaurys and Rafael to race somewhere in South America. Rafael didn’t know anything about it and Amaurys decided not to go. Someone in the DR got peeved and got their federation to suspend them. We’re trying to get it straightened out, since this is more of a personal matter than a sporting one. (I’m sorry to disappoint some of you with the truth.)
interesting
Alberto lives in Cali.
ok. So what should we do now?
Show up at Floyd tonight and race like animals!
Did it flood yet?
oh, thats sounds so logical eugene. btw, some dude in France apparently arranged for me to race the Tour, without telling me. Im not going though. Too busy arranging my sock drawer in July.
Hey NYC – thanks for all of the mengoni comments.
and the unflinching objectivism.
last time i saw objectivism on this site was in the Atlas Shrugged victory salute critique
how perfect Rafael didn’t “know” about it. little Alberto Gonzolez action…..
go to Super week last year. In hindsight, that was probably a good idea for him right?
wouldnt wanna roll a tubular on the way over to the USADA testing area.
Theres one rule that holds pretty true in cycling. If it appears like some shady business is going down, its shady.
Might be true. Dominican’s don’t take disrespect lightly.
While all of you vent your misinformed Dominican stereotypes, you have no solid idea if or why the riders were suspended. many of you WANT them to have been caught doping, to explain why several Mengoni riders kick the crap outta you on a weekly basis. A little secret for you — they train their asses off. They race hungry to win. You race to get photographed or to justify leg shaving and carbon purchases.
When I said I got a false positive for Cinnabon
Dear Cat 2 loser,
Can you give us some examples of more informed Dominican stereotypes?
k-thnx-bai!
This DR stereotyping is total bullsh*t. Those of you posting here in ignorance need a clue. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any lower. I mean, how else are you going to clear acres of underbrush? By hand? C’mon, get real. I’ve had my DR Wood Chipper since the 2005 Tour. Self-feeds 90% of material. 30 ft lbs of torque. Chip branches up to 5-1/2″ thick. Best purchase I ever made.
BEST POST EVER
hey woodchipper – is the writers strike still going?
s-c-a-b
yeah, its so obvious no one trains around this town besides those young dominicans. Dont even know why we bother to race really. Actually, if nobody trains hard, then why do THEY bother to race us?
The truth is, its not about who trains the hardest. We all work hard, and Im sure these boys do too. None of that hard work means crap if they cheat, though, and get snared by the authorities. Its about working hard, racing hard, competing with honor in the process. Two out of three doesnt count.
where is dr. o’donnelll
Actually, Bunde was caught doping. That is why he was winning.
Probably training for the NJ TT champs this Sunday.
You righteous fellas have to get your balls out of a cinch. Take a breath, put down your torches, and wait until we find out what happened. It’s like the Crucible around here….
chums already in the water.
Will Contador steal this thing?
Simoni and Ricci still there.
I heard that Ken Harris is not only a Communist, but a witch! We should see if he floats. Just make sure he doesn’t wear that fugly helmet
ONE FLAG!!
Is Mamajuana on the banned list?
Is this communist/socialist race on for tonight?
check out Bandits – it’s like those guys never wash their kits. Take a shower for christ sakes, I’m trying to sit in behind you!!!
At least two NYC guys got top 10 in the 2 race – K Molloy 7th and Haig Marino 10th.
I saw the USAC email and it doesn’t mention why. I asked Eugene privately awhile ago and he told me the same thing he posted here. We are close friends, so maybe that’s why I stick up for him but I believe him.
In any case the truth will come out on the UCI site soon so we’ll know for sure.
In any case there are suspensions and there are suspensions. A suspenion for doping is bad. There are other suspensions that I don’t view as so bad at all. I know a guy locally who did some major license shenanigans so he could race some pro-am events with his team. He got caught and got a year long suspension. What he did was not right, but it was kind of cool too.
Also,
I know a guy who went to a race there and the officials wouldn’t let him start because he had stitches and bruises on this face. Kinda weird.
Dude in white is the cheater JT mentioned.
What a wanker
i feel bad for mengoni – mr. i is old and fragile, and they all try so hard, and they have a bunch of nice guys, but ridiculous shit just keeps happening to them. i would REALLY hate to see mengoni disappear next year.
story has been checked, it has to do with making a living here v. snubbing a national team appearance.
go figure: you can get suspended for not racing for your country, when you could earn a living someplace else…please reserve any doping judgement until all the facts are known. Feds, in the DR or the US of A, as well as anywhere else, aren’t always fair or full of good will, they all have an agenda.
Chill until more is known.
Thank you Eugene and JT for cooler heads will prevail.

Paul BURROWES WS UNITED and Anthony LOWE WS United are cat 1 now???
how??? I like them, but what the hell have they won????
Why are u madd if they are? Usa cycling still have them as Cat 2?Always the little girls crying because they ae a higher cat then me? So what if they do become a cat 1 and maybe they would like to ride the bigger NRC races instead of just riding these LOCAL races what is so wrong with that? HAters
If those guys scammed their way into that race, that’s the sort of stuff that may eventually produce a suspension but is sort of cool too.
To Mengoni supporters: Its nice to “believe” in your friends, but when we start to get excuses like its some bitter DR Fed trying to punish someone, it begs a lot more questions since its an allegation that cant be proven. Sounds as much like an excuse as it does an explanation. You cant just say “they screwed me because I wouldnt race Pan-Am” and suggest that its impossible that there was something fishy going on with the riders. I would say these riders are pretty serious about the sport. Id love to know what they had going on locally that was so important that they would turn down an opportunity for a big intnl race like that. How about telling us that? It would actually go a long way. Otherwise its just empty excuses.
The truth of a matter is not an excuse.
For instance, if we say that it’s light out because the sun is on this side of the earth, that’s not an “excuse” for the daylight.
i like turtles!
i like lizards!
I would like to have a pilots license, can ws united get me one of those…
…there is a difference between having an interest in doing harder races and getting a premature cat 1 upgrade…
take lowe and paul to fitchburg, altoona, do the P12 at jiminy, palmer, harriman, race somerville cat 2 with the likes of kevin molloy (a super hammer and ego less rider I greatly respect)…none of those are local, and they are all hard. Rock those races and I will gladly carry your water bottles.
this isnt about hate…its about people who never won a cat 2 race of note flashing a cat 1 license because it sounds cool…good luck in the big leagues
Lewis Almonte did bank of america cat1.
where did he get the points for cat 1
U know nothing about me so leave me off this site. Be cool R.G.
Just a reminder for anyone looking for a local race this Sunday the Connecticut Coast Cycling Team is putting on a race in Bethel. The best part is that some of the proceeds will go towards helping families living with and fighting cancer.
People race up a category for many reasons. Sometimes, especially in elite races, teams do not have enough cat 1 races to field an entire team, but, since they were invited, the organization will allow them to include their cat 2 guys. I would suspect this was the case with Lewis Almonte in bank of America. When I saw the race pics, I assumed this was the case with WS Unites. The anger and anon explination of their desire to “do NRC races” proved me wrong…they are not racing up (which is totally cool) to fill a roster, they got the licenses…cool with me again as frankly, I don’t care who races where…
in the furture, we should all consider this Jon Meacham quote as it relates to people making comments about us on this web site:
“no one I know really likes being criticized. At our best, we acknowledge the utility of different views, but hearing about our shortcomings is still emotionally taxing. To be reviewed and second guessed is part of life, and a test of maturity is how well we manage the inevitable feelings of frustration and annoyance that creep in when the criticism starts”
Haters!
maybee pan am doesn’t pay when its alot easier to stay in the us and actually get paid to beat a bunch of crying wussies
to someone like amaury who already got silver at pan am before
Steven Tyler has checked in to rehab to recover form foot surgery, not drug use.

dubious distinction, Mr. I, Charlie…care to comment?
Dude, UCI gave Philipp Metzke of Germany a warning for Cannabis!!!
they want their money back..
I bet the germans use a compass to roll a super precise “fatty”
This Sunday, June 1st… Alan decided to throw an extra race this season. Don’t forget to sign up! Match Sprints!

where are you getting that info? can you provide a link/evidence backing it up? Otherwise what you’re saying is just rumor and ungrounded accusation.

+1 for the bad idea jeans reference

Can we talk about amaury’s fabulous sprinting technique again?
the technique!
one in the ass and one sub-q in the stomach…
