Hangover 4/25/2011

Chicken dinner

The soggy weekend weather served to bring forth a high yield of results, like mushrooms sprouting from a rotting log. Let’s come in from the rain, shake the rain from our pelts and see who won.

At the CRCA Club Race on Saturday, Colin Prensky of L.Raphael-Leopard Cycles won the A race. Fabienne Gerard of Fuoriclasse/Discover Chiropractic won the women’s race. Alex Brinkley won the B race. Michael Nelson won the C race. Results are here.

At the Lucarelli & Castaldi Cup in Prospect Park, Euris Vidal of Foundation won the Pro/1/2/3 race. Joseph Jacobs of Real Estate Rescue won the cat 4 race. David Vollbach of Kissena won the cat 5 race. Results are here.

At Quabbin, Peter Hurst of BikeReg.com/Cannondale won the pro/1/2/3 race, with James Stevens of BH/Garneau third. Timothy Ahern of egglestonequine.com won the 35+ race. James Ruhl of Scotto’s Wood Fired Pizza won the cat 3 race. Carl Reglar of Team Danbury Audi / Pedal and Pump won the 45+ race. Results are here (oddly).

The Spring Series ended, Gavi Epstein of the Chipotle Development Team won the overall. That is all I know. Photos are here.

Why do you want to believe “it’s real” – because of the extremely classy victory salute?

Dear Andy,

Please “bless” (bore) us with more relevant doping news about our local peloton. Lance just doesn’t titilate us anymore! There are juicy details just waiting to be unearthed! There is substance behind those rumors!

Eassily beats two pros in the sprint out of a small break.
Able to cross the line and pose for photo without looking a bit out of breath.
How can you possibly question that? You guys are just haters.

Ermanno Rubber Hood

rollin’ cross the finish, sippin’ on sprints & juice.
laid back, with my mind on my program and my program on my mind.

Not haters, just doubters. We can question that given the winners questionable entry into our scene. Compounded by the fact, as you have so eloquently stated, “Eassily beats two pros in the sprint out of a small break.
Able to cross the line and pose for photo without looking a bit out of breath.”

Just sayin’

If you’re not doping you’re both, not dedicated enough, and not going hard enough. Pap smear to those scared of doping.

Samuel Rear Entry

He did not beat two pros in a “sprint”. He attacked with a K to go and held a bit of the gap. His teammates blocked and that’s why he got away. They sat in the back all race and attacked with three to go.

Paolo Swage

if you want to talk about the latest greatest doping products and regimen, Gilbert’s got it down.

Remi Ferrule

“Pssst, hey pro guys, my team will be really appreciative if you let me go. Just make sure to grimace a little at the cameras while I’m off the front. Ok? Cool bro, thanks.”

Polin Crensky

You are incorrect. Lisbon led out the sprint.
Very easy to see from the start/finsh that he jumped with about 200m to go and won it easily.

USAC

We have our ears on the ground, and when someone on the No Fly Zone enters a USAC race that is scheduled to test, those on the list will be tested…random is a waste of time…targeted testing will catch anyone that “walks like a duck”

USADA

PLAY CLEAN

Call USADA when you believe the integrity of your sport is compromised by doping.

The United States Anti-Doping Agency established 1-877-Play Clean (1-877-752-9253) as a direct telephone link for individuals who are concerned about fair competition. When appropriate, USADA will act based on information that can contribute to its mission of eliminating doping in sport. Callers can remain anonymous.

Seppe Butyl

why don’t you anonymous posters grow a pair and personally speak with the local men (and women?) you’re accusing of doping, telling them you know the facts. go to race promoters, document your “outing.”

otherwise, you’re no better than they are. perhaps worse, since you’re nothing but whiny little bitches.

stop hiding behind the face of anonymity or conjecture.

oh wait, so am i….lolz.

Chuck Roast

That’s it. I’m calling the USDA to complain about tainted beef.

I demand Prime when racing CP, and all I see is Cutter.

Omerta

Hell yea support the local Omerta, Why would I want some foreign group of strangers to preside and rule over my doings and life. “You’re Not My Dad” it’s natural.

Ceramic Rod

Cause he was a cat 5 two years ago, is now mixing it up in the A field, races really fast and juggles it all with a full time job and 3 kids under 7. That’s impressive and means he’s entitled to a little slobber on his junk here and there.

OINGBONG

Fast guy but nothing out of the ordinary… He is not the first guy to go from Cat5 to Cat2 in a few years with kids a job. Lets see how he does now that he is racing the 1s and 2s.

There are guys every year that go from 5 to 1 in a season with jobs and sometimes kids.

Schiatuzzo Locknut

Jobs and kids definitely impact training, but so does having a coach, nutritionist, full time nanny and stay at home wife.

cat4 for life.

Don’t forget the genes. Some riders can excel a lot with light training. Others won’t go anywhere even if they train full time.

Turd Fergusson

There are plenty of examples of the success of the NYVC program: Erik Post, Chris Leong, Kyle Peppo, David Anthony, and plenty more. Just look at the Battenkill results for the past few years and note how many of the top spots were taken by current members / alums.

Farinata Lorica

Is Jacaruso a stay at home cyclist? Does he bake his own energy bars? Mmmm, Schweddy Powerballs.

Busted Nut

I think its impossible to know what anyone’s home life is really like unless you live in their house, and even more, unless you sleep in their bedroom.

That said, something usually has to give – it is very challenging to do it all. I think it’s about trying to find a balance and making sacrifices. If you are going to train a minimum of 10 – 12 hrs / week (any less and you are still competitive in out of town races, then I do think you’re genetically gifted) have kids, a wife and a job then there is a lack of quality time somewhere. The sacrifices could be with intimacy (and sex), bonding with your kids, having an interests outside of cycling and possibly work. However, these are individual decisions, not necessarily to to be “judged” – choices I suppose.

Maybe it turns your wife on to no end that you are super fit and an extraordinary amateur athlete. Maybe it sets a good example for your kids to see you so passionate about a hobby and what it takes to be competitive and successful (hard work!). Still, there is a cost to the sacrifices to be paid at some point. This may not be much different than a powerful CEO or professional athlete – absent from family to fulfill their professional obligations and achieve greatness. This can inspire those close to you, and probably has to in order to work. I think its almost impossible to do it on your own, without tremendous support, unless you have no bonds at all – just a man and his bikes (to quote another comment).

Most of the strongest riders I know or know of who are married/ in committed relationships have a lot of flexibility in their schedules and/or can ride during the day – even if its for a short time. Guys like Prolsen and Mitch are truly remarkable in their achievements given their lifestyles and that they seem to have it all…

Dorian Wave Ring

That Jacaruso dude uses hidden motor in his uber-bike. I’ve seen it. Supposedly got it overseas in Germany, while he was racing for an amateur squad in the Rund Der Wetfahrt. Purdy hooked him up right after he did a quick once-over on some douchebag’s piece of crap Univega who’s shifters needed rebuilding and bottom bracket replaced.

OINGBONG

This guy is good but we are talking about him in the same sentence as “greatness”. The guy is a 30 somthing winning Cat3 who will likely stop winning at the Cat1-2 level (especially in the out of towners). This guy is nothing but a good local Cat 3. I far cry from a family man going pro with Quick Step after 2 years.

Oh, and yes, the NYVelocity Cat5 system works, it turns new bike racers into Cat2-4s having fun on their bikes.

Piero Flange

“Maybe it turns your wife on to no end that you are super fit and an extraordinary amateur athlete.”

this one brought a smile to my face. My wife certainly appreciates the fit (looking) part, but whether i’m a cat 10 or cat 1, or whether i place or get dropped means zero to her. I would guess that’s the case for most of our significant others.

Dorian Wave Ring

He’s a sandbagging 2 ready to unleash the fury within. But, he keeps it in check for the rest of us, happily enjoys the 3’s. Must be a well-regimented program of regression therapy, ginko biloba, and a diet filled with sugar-free marshmallows and free range tofu burger.

Turd Fergusson

Easy on Jacaruso. He’s in his 40s, rocks a MONSTER career, and has been killing it. Getting to Cat 2 in couple of years (let alone EVER) is a noteworthy achievement and should be celebrated.

the Sensei

OK, I admit it! I installed a Gruber on Mitchy’s bike. There, are you happy now? But if I’m going down I’m taking all of you with me. I will release all of the names one at a time. Get ready DA, Olsen, Sakofsky… you guys are next on the chopping block.

Turd Fergusson

Don’t hate on a man’s business here. There’s no need. Man up and talk to him yourself. It’s one thing to anonymously be a dick to another anonymous individual, but F’ing with a guy’s business is just uncalled for.

the Sensei

Yeah Kelty, Don’t have fun at my expense….EVER! Haven’t you learned by now that I am the one person one this list that is immune to all hate? Go back and read the rulebook or you might find yourself in a world of shit.

😉
