So many winners

If you are moving around like an eighty year old man in the line at Cracker Barrel at work today, that means that you raced at Battenkill on Sunday. (Dieter Drake kills more bike racer productivity than I can haz cheeseburger and self-Google image searches that include the keywords "bike", "race" and "me"combined) Well then, Pull up your support hose and let’s explore the results from the weekend.

Locally there was the Cherry Blossom Classic at Branchbrook Park.

Augusto Sanchez won the 1/2/3 race. David Casale of Tri State Velo won the cat 3/4 race. Victoria Hanks of Human Zoom Cycling wont e women’s 1/2/3/4 race. Judi Rivera of Sturdy Girl Cycling won the women’s cat 4 race. William Elliston of Van Dessel Factory Team won the 35+ race. David Bonser of Gotham Cyclists won the 45+ race. Joseph Zuppa of Colavita Racing won the 55+ race. Javier Mereles of Cycle Craft won the cat 4/5 race. Full results are here.

The comments section says that Ricky Lowe of Diehard won the 1/2/3 race, and Gary Steinberg of Brauer won the masters race. If you wish to contest these results, contact twitter, and if you won, please let us know.

There’s no Bethel results as of this writing, but they should be coming soon.

Finally at Battenkill, there were more fields, results and trophies than my daughter’s grade school art show. I’ll include some highlights here, and then you can stop over and check out the tremendously thorough results yourself, stay away from the lower finishes in the cat 3 pink field, there’s nothing to be seen there.

Brett Tivers of Garneau-Club Chaussures-Norton Rose won the men’s pro/1 race. Lex Albrecht of Team Juvederm-Specialized won the women pro/1/2 race. Alex Vanias of Priority Health Cycling Team won the men’s cat 2 race. Andrew Clerico of CRCA/BH Garneau won the cat 3 race with Al Barouh third of CRCA/BH Garneau third. David Anthony of CRCA/BH Garneau won the cat 4 orange race. Warren St John of CRCA/Teany Cycling was second in the cat 4 brown field. Jules Roazen of CRCA/siggi’s/NYVelocity won the cat 5 blue race. All of these results and more can be found here.

Van Summeren’s victory is one for the tall! We shelter you in our ample drafts. We look like insects on stock frame sizes that are too small. We can’t sprint and we climb only well enough to still be in sight when the small guys take the win. We’re too uncoordinated for basketball.

This one’s for us. Chapeau Johan!

Fabio Cancellara

Did Van Summeren mention something about proposing to his gf after the race?(which Sherwin ignored?)

Let the legs talk, and then some

Also…CAT4 Pink saw Sid’s Bikes NYC’s Robert Rakowitz take 3rd place.

Let the legs talk, and then some

CRCA saw a hole buncha podium finishes.

CAT 4 Orange saw 1 – David Anthony AND 2 – Ben Noble of Houlihan-Lokey Sanchez

So much for local coverage…at least cover the podiums!

Clubber Lang

Is old but seriously, the guy has been racing Cat2 and high level masters (road and mountain) for more than a decade. Why would he want to race Cat4 at this point when he can race 40 plus. Pretty strange….

Rayan Saddlesore

I belive no one should ever down grade to 4, the final resting spot for old dudes should be the 3s

Baptiste Rivnut

Raquel Miller from CRCA/Houlihan-Lokey Sanchez took 3th place yesterday at Battenkill in cat 4 woman, nice CRCA podium finishes yesterday up in Cambridge,NY.

Alloy Nipple

The pics from the local paper show the dreaded yellow sheet covering something in the roadway. I hope it not the worst…

Piero Headbadge

Any thoughts about the mess in the 3/4 race at Central Park? How on earth does David Sommerville reward riders for mixing in with another field when they should be clearly DQ’d? 95% of the field followed the rules and got the shaft. The 6 racers that combined with the passing Masters field win the top placings despite numerous warnings to get out of their field

Baptiste Threadlock

David is a Cat1 roadie, crosser, track racer, unicyclist, and whippet courser. His knowledge of bike racing can reconcile contradictions. All hail.

Open Skewer

The field was caught by the 5’s! To quote an old SNL skit starring Rev Jesse Jackson…the point is moot.

I won the 3/4 race on Battenkill weekend in a field that was slower than the Cat 5s woo hoo – to quote Charlie Sheen…

“UP-GRADE!”

~~

Putting on park races isn’t rocket science. Van Dunk tries to wrestle every buck he can out of a race and in that pursuit he runs too many fields and has too few pace vehicles. When he does have a vehicle it’s usually with someone who doesn’t have much or any experience on dealing with the mixing of fields.

None of this is news.

So if you choose to do his races because it’s convenient or the only game in town on a given day you get what’s expected. Continually whining about it isn’t going to change anything. Talking to Anthony doesn’t change anything, and even the lackluster turnout doesn’t seem to be causing him to rethink his approach.

One racer on saturday asked where one could find the series point totals and Anthony quipped “why, are you in it?”

So two weeks left with TT next week. (Is the road even open?) Be forewarned: it was bad two years ago, and an utter disaster last year. No correct official results were ever posted. Don’t complain about it if you go and his iPhone clock adds 20 seconds or a minute to your time.

In sum there are no results, no photos, and no one cares. Get over it. Just thank god he hasn’t got anyone killed.

Florian Tigweld

I’ve been wondering the same. Wasn’t he among the most successful masters just a couple of years ago?

Remi Steerer

i know at least 2 people who had to go back to 4 after a couple years off per USA Cycling policy. If you let your license expire for a significant amount of time you are automatically downgraded to 4. one guy was a national level cat 1 and was downgraded to a 3.

Excitable Cat 3 Master Sandbagger

Since when is a person who is of the age to ride masters a sandbagger for racing their category. Its crazy every year guys who just “know” they are fast and can cat up; don’t and then blamed their competition for sandbaggin.

I mean really ask yourself if your bitching about sand baggers in a 4 race what are you going to do in a 123 race.

Chris K

Not exactly marin but Blazing Saddles in SF [ bunch of locations] rents top of the line Specialized rides. Have been using them for a bunch of years ever since the cost of taking the bike is more then the airline ticket.

crabon fribe

I know a bunch of people, myself included, who trekked out to Newark to do Branchbrook this season instead of the shite show that is spring series. So it is costing him something.

Paolo Swage

“One racer on saturday asked where one could find the series point totals and Anthony quipped “why, are you in it?””

…pretty funny, but more to the point, was he in it?

also, i’d say the lackluster turn-out is due more to what a pain in the @ss it’s getting to be to train in NYC than to poorly run races.

Adam Internal Routing

Cat 4 women on dirt road descents = disaster. Add in aero wheels too, not good.

just sayin’

HGH

Real below – Stebbins is a Cat1 road and mtn xc and has been racing for more than 10 years. He is now racing Cat 4 when he should be racing masters 50 plus. Old guy power is nothing to mess with and I dont know why a guy of his level would want to race with 4s all killing themselves for upgrade points. Hes been there, done that years ago.

Anthony Pulley

I hear that sand was all provided by David Anthony, from his personal collection of bags and bags of it.

CD

My big issue with the Cherry Blossom race …. no cherry blossoms. Seriously, this srpring weather sucks.

Head Tube

DA is a strong and smart racer – no doubt about it – whether or not you like him. He’s now won Bear (Nancy Morgenstern) and Battenkill in the past 7 months – two of the hardest RRs in the NE and he’s killing it. Hell, he even won the Tour of Deliverance down in ‘Bama or something, and would have won the Tour of Bermuda if they knew how to tell time there or something. He’ll be forced to upgrade soon, and there will be another to take his place crushing the 4’s on his way up to 3. Train, don’t complain…

Domenico Bearing

DAVID ANTHONY FOR PRESIDENT!!! He’s upgrading, for sure. No need to name call guys! 🙂

Simon Limit Screw

The guy trains harder than anyone and he’s in his mid-40s, beating out guys half his age.

BH

Is a BH inside joke that was dumb to put here where it just looks mean-spirited. It was meant as a compliment actually.

Charles Drainhole

He should have raced masters 40 if we was interested in racing, just like Stebbins sould have raced masters 50. Weak

Charles Pulley

next…AVD…now Somerville is in on it…officiate the rules officials!!!!
and riders that jumped ahead have no shame! punks to the core! The cat3/4s were robbed of their collective entry fees by these fools.
Post their names here so I can piss on them like a samurai!

Dumb RACER!

First week was the chase group that got caught by the masters and this week all the 3/4’s were in Battenkill…..if you have nothing good to say then say nothing at all! Think before you speak dumbness!

Antoine Dodson

he’s climbin in your windows
he’s snatchin your people up
tryna rape em so y’all need to
hide your kids, hide your wife
hide your kids, hide your wife
hide your kids, hide your wife
and hide your husband
cuz DA’s rapin errbody out here
you don’t have to come and confess
we’re lookin for you
we gon find you
we gon find you
so you can run and tell that,
run and tell that
run and tell that, homeboy
home, home, homeboy

Kylian Grips

who lets me ride all I want. I don’t have any kids. I work part time. And I ain’t winning shit. Genetics trumps all.

Eliott Rear Entry

Should follow Charlie’s King County or the Toefield format and give the 3/4s a headstart on the 5s and masters the winners are those first over the line – this way AVD can run the entire race with just one field – AWESOME!

BB30 Creaker

I’d like to be the first to congratulate Etsu with an e-symbol of success – you are a doper and a sandbagger!

Eastsiiiiiiiide!

The biggest excuse for mediocrity I’ve ever heard.

You’re not training hard enough, it’s that simple.

I usually hear such excuses from muscularly challenged doughy geeks. Here’s a genetically enhancing prescription:

More long 3+ hour LSD rides.

Get your arse into the gym and man up!

You’re probably not eating enough, stop being such a weight weenie! You need at least 1.75 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Your muscles will need it to finish hard.

Lastly, grow some balls! Stop being a pussy and get into the sprint. I don’t wanna hear that “I’m not a sprinter” bullshit. That’s just an excuse used by the timid and weak at heart. At a Cat 4 level you’re not experienced enough to have a specialty despite what you’ve been told by you shit team and shit coach.

straight talk with waldo

If you’re a three or four and you think your field is faster than the masters ask JJ or Lance or Johann which end is up. Maybe you bumped your head at Battenkill.

Diego Drainhole

Eastsiiide…you make a lot of assumptions.

There are some people who could do everything right and not win anything especially at the 123/masters level.

and a lot of people actually overtrain around here.

Eastsiiiiiiiide!

They could but have they?

How motivated are they to WIN? How smart a racer are they? It takes more than just training to win a race, ask Nuyens.

The ‘genetically superior’ dudes are pros. Everyone else is full of excuses, this isn’t brain surgery.

It’s all in your mind whether you want to believe it or not.

Salvestro Ceramic

BH had 4 guys in the top finishing group and only managed to net 17th place as their best placing? Need to work on your team skills, son

Lennert Gel

those guys were tearing shit up in some of the bigger Cat 2 and 1/2 races late last season, I was expecting Leong to win it on Sunday. Hmm.

Park laps no more.

Has no business in the 4’s.
Just my 2 cents…not that if he was there it would have materially changed my performance, just know that he has been around for too long to be in 4’s

Mayor Bloomberg

Attention Cyclists, Due to the torrential rain our great city has experienced major flooding. With the help of one of your fellow cyclist, we have been able to control the flood waters. David Anthony has donated to our emergency workers over 5 tons of sandbags out of his personal supply. Because of this, I have ordered my Police department to STOP ticketing and harassing cyclists. All thanks to the greatest sandbagger NYC has ever seen. On behalf of the city, thank you David Anthony.

God bless,
Mayor Bloomberg

Bernardi Polished

this is probably the funniest thing ive read on NY, I dont even know or care about this guy or cat 4’s in general, but this is good stuff 🙂

Hugo Butyl

some fun finally on this site…so depressing usually, but now I am laughing…thx…

we all owe David Anthony a beer…

Tony Soprano

Morgan is 51 years old:
http://usacycling.org/results/?compid=33904
I don’t know why he wants to do Cat 4 races either, but if you’re complaining that you can’t beat a 51 year old, you’ve got the bigger problem. And he’s been racing the 3/4’s fro years when he’s not racing Masters. Why is this news now?
And for the know-it-alls who think he downgraded after taking years off, check his record. He races more than you do. So that point is moot.

straight talk with waldo

This isn’t much of a stretch but the guys saying “Morgan shouldn’t be a 4” aren’t guys who are worried about beating him, but guys who have been around long enough to know his track record and his tendency to sandbag. No one should be permitted to bounce down lower than the threes.

nothing shocking

Exactly zero 1,2,3s or masters registered for the fabulous AvD time trial. Looks like an easy pay day for any one who actually shows up to do it. Is the road even open?

Simon Liner

Is David Anthony racing this weekend? According to this spy photo taken of his operation, it appears that he’s really busy. Hope he’s not too busy storing sandbags to race.

Nolan Biopace

Deadlocked 11-1. The one holdout was a wacko that insisted he would never find the defendant guilty of any crime because he had a son about the defendant’s age, thought the entire legal system corrupt and unless he saw the crime committed himself just couldn’t believe any of the evidence. A total waste of three days. Bonds was (sort of) lucky. Overall, he’s a total loser. OJ was also acquitted – did wonders for his reputation.

DA

I WAS going to upgrade after Battenkill, but now i’m kinda running low on sand, so its going to have to wait awhile.

David Anthony

Anonymous posters of NYVC –

You’ve picked a fight with a warlock. I’m not fair game. I’m not a soft target. It’s over. There’s a new sheriff in town. And he has an army of assassins.

I’m tired of pretending I’m not special. I’m tired of pretending I’m not a total bitchin’ rock star from Mars.

People ask me what I’m still doing in the cat 4s? Rhymes with WINNING. The only thing I’m addicted to right now is WINNING. And I don’t know… WINNING anyone?

The run I’m on made Merckx, LeMond, Armstrong, Contador, all of them look like droopy-eyed, armless children!

Here’s my life, deal with it. Oh wait, can’t process it, losers…

WINNING,
Buh-bye.

David Anthony

Yeah, the pretender where is he now? He’s under a bridge.

I wish him nothing but pain in his silly travels especially if he winds up in my octagon. Clearly I have defeated this earthworm with my words — imagine what I would have done with my fire breathing fists.
