Lots of results to report from lots of races in the area, so let’s go run what we’ve heard so far. At the CRCA Club Race, Karl “with a K” Rahn (not John Loehner, like I reported – thanks Andy) of Empire wins the A race from a breakaway. Judging from the pictures of the finish, it looks like Ann Marie Miller of Sanchez-Houlihan Lokey just beating Sarah Sauvayre of Comedy Central in the women’s race. Our report of the B race tells us that Setanta won, which isn’t very specific, so if you have details please share them. In the C race, unnamed NYVC racers takes places 1,2 and 5 – that just sounds like the daily lottery numbers.
Wilson Vasquez of Champion System won the P123 race at Branchbrook, all other results are floating in the ether awaiting confirmation. Princeton Stadium Classic results are also stubbornly refusing to show themselves.
At the Spring Series, Gavin Robertson of WS United won the 123 race, with Jeff Cline of Kreb’s winning the Masters race and Miguelangel Blanco of Spin City winning the Cat 3/4 race.
And the Bethel Spring Series gets our race promoter of the week prize for having complete results posted by Monday. In the women’s race, permanent podium guest Ann Marie Miller gets second, and it looks like Juan Pimental of Global Locate did the Sunday racing double and got 8th in the P123 race for his trouble.
I think you mean, “Knowing is half the battle”… wanker.

Alistair Siebert of Setanta won the B race. Go Alistair!!
Setanta rode great as a team. Great job.
what is going on in the picture on the front page?
opposite day
It was very dark in that race yesterday. First lap, I wanted my mommy.
the screeching wheels of WSUnited.
I wanted your mommy too but not because it was dark
Maggie Shirley, radical media, won the women’s spring series race on Sunday. CRCA racing is strong these days.
There was definitely some darkness going on. It reminded me of a roller coaster ride through a tunnel.
The Space Mountain Spring Series..
Man was that scary the first lap. As a bonus I broke two rims ’cause I couldn’t see a pothole.
Here’s a shot of yesterday’s race just past the museum.

I’ll have top results as soon as I clean my car out.
Alan
Haussler just won stage 2 of Paris-Nice. I’m telling you, this guy’s going to have a lot of success in the April classics.
Steve M. scored a strong 2nd in his first B race. Go Steve!
is such a sandbagger.
Haussler did kill it Fabian-style, but there weren’t any big name sprinters there.
Anyone have an average speed on the B field for Saturday’s CRCA race? It felt fast.
in CP, 123 field, were the 3 up the road, everyone else just pulled United and its team of sprinters along for a free ride…
Added bonus were all the marshals smoking, no whistles, or whistling only when the group was actually passing/passed, amazing nobody got hurt on the potholes, but thats AVD, Mr Rider Safety…
(No I wasn’t racing)
iDot Suck
because you raced in complete darkness, iDot!!!
who were the iDots that said OK lets race in complete Horse Shit Pot holed darkness???
who pulled the box truck full of marshals, with the loading ramp down into the racing lane on HSA (horse shit alley) on the first, dark lap.
@12.05 — Sunday was dark. The CRCA race was Saturday & started an hour later; completely light out from start.
It must have been weird if you were hanging out in the park at what was basically 4:30 am and all of a sudden 100 racers fly by at 25 MPH. I bet if you were a crazy person who was busy murdering someone, it would probably scare you.
A little under 25mph.
After seeing Anne Marie in the stars and stripes this weekend, I have to think she is NYVelocity interview material?
Ann Marie gets little press and is a phenomenal racer. Maybe she will reveal her true age!
Does CRCA actually post results?
thanks
new member
Agreed. Let’s hear her story.
welcome, and congrats! as you know we’re a volunteer club, so i’d just like to thank you for applying to post results to the website in a timely manner after club races. this is how we fill the position every year; first newbie to ask gets the role. this is a venerable tradition that we instituted when al gore first created the internets, and we’d excited to continue it in 2009. please forward your name to ‘clubracing[at]crca.net’ to get started. thanks!
I’d like them Twittered within 5 mins of being “official”. This way I’ll know who won by the time I hit the line…
Really? Everyone volunteers? Even the race director?
I apologize. I cannot comit to this big responsibility. I am a father of six, am unemployed, play online poker to support my family, and cannot be trusted to operate an internet. Please wait for the next new member to ask about results.
STFU up already and get those results up!
and anal volunteer guy … did i say everyone voluneteered? really? and you ask questions like that? one’s that you know the answers too? make you feel superior? strong of questions, huh? are you socrates? [i imagine your voice like stewie from family guy]. you can stfu too.a**cl**n keep emailing away.a*s*c*w*
where are the pictures? I was being blinded in the dark by camera flashes. Are you going to correct all the red eye?
Radical Media won the women’s race and had a couple women in the top 5. Also saw those girls mix it up in the men 3/4 race.
to newbie
Disregard the stupid person below. Also, disregard the person telling you to volunteer (unless you really want to). That’s a fake comment as well. There is no tradition whatsoever.
The CRCA results do go up, but it can take a bit. They record up to 7 places in each field.
And so the newbie, strong of questions, ventured forth …
The beginning of an epic poem, that.
That guy really likes to say assclown
The CRCA does post results on its site, crca.net. Last year it was usually the same day, maybe taking a little longer now since it’s the first race of the year. Subscribe to the RSS feed or follow crca on Twitter if you want to be the first to know when they’re up.
My understanding of the top 3 yesterday
Gavin Robertson – WS United
Luis Aquino – Champion System Racing
Chad Butts – Champion System Racing
My understanding for Saturday’s Branch Brook
Wilson Vasquez – Champion System Racing
Wow – lots of results so far for Champion System.
What does CRCA really stand for?
14:42 — not clear on this, but the A probably has something to do with Assclown(s)
Newbie, please disregard the comment asking you to disregard our venerated traditions, and your responsibilities for the 2009 season. That was without doubt a prank comment of the CRC of A, our nemesis club. (That’s why someone asked about ‘what does CRCA stand for?’, as a subtle jibe. That is their typical calling card -well played, CRC of A.)
CRCA is the Century Road Club Association. We have a spirited and completely friendly rivalry with the CRC of A, the Century Road Club of America. They continually try and subvert our rich and storied traditions as a hijinx throughout the season. Nice try, CRC of A! Such playful tomfoolery is part of the rich tapestry of the New York Cycling scene, so again – welcome! You got dropped right into the deep end.
(Wow – it’s truly fitting that my captcha is ‘knickers.’)
anyone else see the crash yesterday on the descent on the last lap?
thank you for the history lesson and the difference between CRCA and CRC of A and your friendly rivalry… however, you have guessed wrong, you must be a city dweller (all full of yourself) I am part of neither the CRCA or the CRC of A..I enjoy reading this website and often chuckle when an off subject argument is started, hence my new argument “what does the CRCA really stand for”. I wonder if it is always the same people who contribute.. I mean, is it always the same person who is FIRST…
as far as I can see the CRCA puts out some pretty good riders regardless of what the acronym stands for…
your truly not from the the CRCA or the CRC of A.. and the A could mean Assdown, but how am I to know (shrugs shoulders).
I am truly not, indeed; I see the bait and leave it lying, Sir.
I feel like I’m in a sequel to Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead
Can someone talk about racing bikes or something?
wow. an R&G reference. yet another NYV first.
it might be racing season that’s starting for you, but it’s a whole other season that’s starting for some of us…

Hell I’m reading from out west and can see getting results posted from a race is as bad there as it is here! Must be due to some privacy regulation or the organizers don’t want to pay out the prizes? Why is it such a pain? On both coasts? Maybe time to get USCF involved? Or are they the problem?
I’m still waiting to here about the crash.
Also, is Ann single? Do the interview and get some sexy pic’s, please! Thanks from 3K plus miles away.
Does self-deprecating=not very smart?

WS United?
You race bikes. You’ve met other people who race bikes, right? We, as a group, are some dumb dumb dummies. It’s nothing personal at all … when ‘bicycle racer’ is the only thing yr going on, it’s surprising if the subject can tie his own shoes.
self-aggrandizing = not too smart
does anyone know any websites with pictures from branchbrook on them?
Anne Marie Miller should only wear the stars & stripes jersey in MASTERS races. I don’t think she could take Brooke Miller (Elite National Champion) in a sprint, sorry.
your self-deprecations include “simply put, I’m too stupid to be superstitious” and you’re surprised when someone is surprised you reference an avant-garde absurdist play?
considering the lack of crashes in the sketchiness of the s.s. race in the dark, i’m surprised no one’s mentioned the crash in the crca A race the day before–on the 2nd lap going through h.s. alley, it was bright as could be, on a wide straight, a slight incline, and a moderate pace.
Sorry, but the road was slick even without the horsesh*t, the road narrows at that point and it’s a reverse camber turn.
You win, I’m an idiot.
New promoter, same old shit. No results. No photos. waaaaah!
Your and iDot. Try and keep up, please.
The crash in the CRCA A race happened a 150M or so out of the turn, wide, open, slight incline and yeah some horseshit but thats hardly an excuse for going down. We were collectively fucking the dog and going about 4 miles an hour when it happened.
that crash gave the break its opportunity.
Anne Marie shouldn’t care what you think. She is a damn fine racer and deserves to wear her jersey with pride. I don’t think she is claiming anything disingenuous. Just so you are aware, the master’s jersey and the elite jersey are different. Anne Marie’s jersey has horizontal stripes that signify the status as master’s national champ. The elite jersey has vertical stripes. If you’re jealous, you can try and win your own some day.
Seems like the results from the CRCA race have taken unusually long? Both right after the race and in terms of posting them. In at least a couple of cases there was no question or challenge. Is it really necessary to double-check the camera in all cases, when the marshal observers and racers all are clear on the places? Hopefully as we get rolling in the season it will be done a lot quicker.
you have to be a real jack ass to question when/where someone with a national champion’s jersey chooses to wear it.
they usually take a couple of days. if you have been in the club a while, you know this. if you are new, you should relax. if you won, you already know you won, right?
I think Anne Marie is a good racer as well. She just shouldn’t wear her masters national champion’s jersey at Bethel (or any other non-masters race).
From the USAC rulebook:
Only current National Champions may wear National Championship jerseys and only in the specialty (road race, time trial, criterium, cyclocross, track, MTB endurance, MTB gravity) and age group (junior, master, U23, elite) in which the title was won.
it sure sounds like hating to me. you are complaining about someone’s jersey in a early spring TRAINING race series. If I were you, I would just be proud that a National Champ is rocking out in your race. How is anybody hurt by her jersey, that is clearly distinguished as a master’s jersey by the use of horizontal striping?
I’m looking to hook up with a CRCA subteam for the season. Cat. 2 but not been racing for 10 years or so. Managed to hang with the pack for the opener (but then it wasn’t that fast). Just looking for a decent group of guys to ride with in the club races and that is it. Any suggestions for teams to contact? I would try and ‘pick up’ at the next race but I’m scared of getting shot down like a fat girl at the bar.
if you see a fat girl in a bar, you need another drink
We all respect AMM, but rules are rules. She should not be wearing the masters jersey in non- masters events.
i think most teams would be glad to add a cat 2 to the roster, but you have to see who you meld with the best. keep doing the club races and make some friends. no one is going to shoot you down. on the internet/nyvelocity, everyone is an asshole–in real life, most of them are decent, friendly people.
Three days later and they can’t seem to post 28 names (4 races times 7 places). Make all the excuses you like, it’s still lame.
dude who cares.
Let’s see the results.
As I said, make all the excuses you like. Whether one cares or not, posting results in a timely fashion is a reasonable expectation for a legitamate race (fee, license required, etc.). It’s lame.
CRCA Results
March 7
A Race
1. Dan Schmalz
2. Andy Shen
3. Marco Quezada
4. Toto
5. TT Vegan
Lap times: 14:12, 12:59, 13:03, 47:34 (Toto took everyone to McDonalds), 12:43
I’m the guy below asking about hooking up with a team and I gotta say that the results whining is ridiculous. Given the speed at which the A race was conducted nobody was particularly anxious to see the finish line during the race so why the hell does anybody care to find out what place they were in when they rolled over it behind the winners?
Its freakin’ club racing and it is a beautiful thing. Let me tell you after 10 years away from the sport I almost wept when I got to Central Park at 5:45 on Saturday morning. Could anything be more beautiful than what I saw? $10 bucks to go hammer around Central Park for 90 minutes with a bunch of fast, young guys, old, still fast guys? Man, that race is a gem…cherish it and the people who sweat to make it happen.
Onwards to the internets to answer more questions. Are the Spring Series races as fun as the CRCA stuff? Same crowd, same dynamic?
if it was a legitimate race you’d get upgrade points
I just want to point out that even though TTVegan was fifth he did all the pulling. And if I didn’t order the large fries I would’ve beaten Schmalz.
results
you want to know who placed? Get up there yourself!
you have a problem with AMM? Race against her!
former wannabees, nobody cares when or what you raced, only that you (still) can!
Have Fun,
“Don’t Bring Me Down”….
What if the results are MISSING? Or STOLEN? Oh my god. What if the results do materialize but ARE FAULTY? Anxiety! Depression! What if they spelled your name WRONG? Are you freaking out yet?
Yes, the race director is a paid position. Anyone interested in the job see me after, not before, any race and I would be happy to tell you about the job. We can use more folks who can do the job.
yes, race placings have to be double checked on the camera. Sometimes it is very close. The woman’s race was decided by less than a tire width. Yes, you have to wait till the 15 minute protest period is over to collect your prize. For those whining about results, if you were that interested in the results you should have checked them out when they were posted in the registration area shortly after the races were done.
Pictures can be seen at

Wait!! There are prizes? You’re kidding. That’s awesome.
Thanks for your hard work AR. I think most people completely respect the time and effort it takes to generate accurate results.
However, in today’s Twittered world, most people also expect instant access to information. They don’t realize that someone has to take those pieces of paper home, sit down, and type it all into a blog (not to mention calculating lap times, which CRCA often does). How did people race prior to 1995?
Thanks for your hard work.
is a hack. A charlatan of bicycling who’s holding our, OUR!, results in his secret hideout. I mean, c’mon, I toss up $10.00 and I want my results immediately.
Ever since I lost my job at Lehman Brothers trading ceramic bearing futures, I’ve been making ends meet by stealing the results to amateur bicycle races, which I hold for ransom. Just be patient — I have good evidence that the CRC of A leadership is weakening; expect your placings back, safe & sound, within the week. Don’t judge me too harshly — during the boom years, I took out substantial loans using my extensive mankini collection as security, believing values could only go up, and I could refinance indefinitely … now, I stand to lose the whole lot. I’m not proud.

Cut to the chase …
You all want your name up in lights, but you haven’t mastered the art of the anonymous self-written shout out! Like …
“Congrats Rupert P. in your first B race”
or
“Great job Antiquarian Media! Way to house the field”
You actually KNOW how you finished, but you can’t muster up some blatant self promotion. Here, let me try:
I, John Cutler (CRCA) think I placed 3rd in the B race. I hauled my skinny ass up the hill as fast as possible and got lucky. I didn't know there was a pay-out and my girlfriend got new pedals and she wanted to do some loops.
Cheers. That was easy.
JC
shit, you could have bought your girlfriend a muffin with that money
I know. Instead I had to give her the dregs from my second water bottle. But she’s a good sport.
Knowing you won is really easy.
did she swallow?
Is that the real question?
Alex,
You may be paid, but we also owe you a lot of gratitude for the competent, consistent way you put on early morning races for the rest of us.
The question about results was not whether the camera was necessary in cases like the women’s race with a tire width distance distinguishing first and second, but in the other races where it was not close and the marshals and racers agreed on the order. It also was not about eliminating the protest period. Getting the results– at least for some races — done closer to the end of the race might even help more racers be able to stay around to be identified (that and them pinning their number on better!).
Question or no question, still thanks for your work. It is really appreciated.
PS — Congrats to John Cutler on getting third!
I can’t believe you nerds are getting on AMM for wearing the stars and stripes in non-masters events. If any of you dorks actually had won, I’m pretty confident you’d be wearing it to your offices and trying to impress anyone who would listen with how awesome you are.
