Hangover 3/22/2010

Packed parks produce podiums

The temperate weekend weather was a welcome respite after last weekend’s tempestuous meteorological happenings, urging racers to pack the local parks and area races like a sausage casing filled with flamboyantly hued grindings.

At Saturday’s Spring Series race in Central Park, Gavin Robertson of Foundation won the Pro 123 in a field sprint; Chris Leong of BH-Garneau also field sprinted to victory in the 3/4 race; Eutimo Quintero of Foundation won the masters race. The results are posted on Anthony Van Dunk’s Twitter page here.

The Brooklyn Spring series race at Floyd Bennett Field was also on Saturday. Mike Margarite of AXA Equitable won the Pro 123 race. Kelsey Crew of Kissena won the women’s race. Scot Savory of Adler won the cat 4 race. Jesus Espitia of Blue Ribbon-Translations.com won the Masters 40+ race, and Colin Tanner of TargetTraining won the cat 5 race. Results are here.

At Branchbrook on Saturday, Nikoli Masluk of YSG Racing won the 123 race. Jason Bruner of Pure Energy racing won the first cat 4/5 race. Mark Collins won the second cat 4/5 race. Frederico William of the Van Dessel Factory Team won the masters race. Results are here.

The Johnny Cakes Race was also Saturday, but there are no results posted as of this writing.

On Sunday at the Prospect Rark Spring Series race, Jermaine Burrowes of Mango Seed won the Pro 123 race. Paul Carbonara of Axis won the masters race. Leszek Sniadowski of Organic won the 3/4 race—holding off Brian Gatens.. Greg Waggoner won the cat 5 race. Results also on the AVD Twitter page.

And finally, at the Tour de Kirche at Bethel on Sunday, Jeff Buckles of Richmond Pro Cycling won the Pro 123 race. Evan Thomas of bethel Cycle won the cat 3/4 race. Brian Suto of Bethel Cycling won the juniors race. John Funk of Cycle Fitness won the masters race. Ann Marie Miller of Houlihan-Lokey Sanchez won the women’s race. Bill Muzzio of Bethel Cycle won the cat 4 race. There were two cat 5 races, Jefferson Lima of Navone Studios won the first race, and San Rosenholtz of Green Line Velo won the second. Results are here.

Shouldn’t Greg be a Cat 4 just by default? Isn’t he the “coach” of that Z-team? Shouldn’t the “coach” be at least a Cat 3?

Ferre Skidmark

The rules are no road upgrade pts are awarded from MT biking. One could win Mt Bike nationals, then worlds, and not get a single road upgrade pt.

if you train hard, and all winter you have been doing intervals-training camps and working with a coach only to be dis heartened in the parks by guy who sit in and sprint.

then come to floyd . it is game on . or you can go back and complain about how much you hate sprinters who sit in all the time

But one could write a letter to US Cycling asking permission for the upgrade- Greg is undoubtly fast, and a nice guy, but it stinks for those of us who want to race and rightly be competitive within our class.

I will quit moaning now because I know I would not have have placed anyway- but it surprised me.

Lorenzo Liner

i want my mommmmmmmmyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy! somebody beat me on my bicycle, wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Leszek sticks around in the B’s/4’s a little while longer. He’s strong as an ox and makes the lot of us sorry souls work harder. I’m not that familiar with the types of sandbaggery but it’s not like he’s sitting back in the field and then sprinting for the win with ease. He worked his tail off yesterday in the 3/4 break at PP and earned it. He makes us race harder and I don’t have a problem with that.

Some Dude

I like the fact that he’s in the field, the race seems more challenging. He forces everyone to up their game.
All the guys complaining still have 2nd-6th place to scrounge for points. Somehow I doubt that they’re even getting top tens. It’s easy to blame someone else for your failures.

Thanks Baldini- I figured as much since he is a classy guy. And it figures that USA Cycling denied him…
I am sure that the Cat 4’s and Cat 3’s will compalin once he gets there- he is strong.

Domenico Stiff

its the same story and crying. new guys show up that have a background in endurance sport and dominate for a little while in category they quickly exit. see harris, gulla, riffelmacher blah, blah

that being said the organic guy should b doing 35+ or 1, 2, 3. the 3,4 prospect is just beating up on the same guys over n over.

Ernesto Skidmark

glory cause he probably ain’t gonna place in the A field. Big fish in the small pond syndrome.

Lukas Tubie

looking at san dimas results, seems like racers in CA weren’t inclined to follow the script of coronation of CRCA as club of the year…

Lukas Tubie

Shockingly, it seems Fly V didn’t field all 56 riders that finished ahead of the top crca GC finisher.

Mathieu Hammer

Mike Mathis (AXA/Empire) finished 22nd on GC, for what it is worth. Third non-pro. Lisbon was 56th.

Come race the big Cross events where you have Cat1s racing the Bs (2/3s or 3s). It never ends. Once you realize this it gets easier.

Kissme Impolish

The rules are: 4-3: 20 points in any 12-month period; or experience in 25 races with a minimum of 10 top ten finishes with fields of 30 riders or more, or 20 pack finishes with fields over 50. 30 points in 12 months is an automatic upgrade.

So soon he will be a cat 3 and still kick the most of the same people’s ass if he wants too as he is 46 years old.

His team is weak, isolate him and work him over. This is what makes bike racing beautiful.

Kyllian Skidmark

He’s got a bunch of points in the series. He should bounce fields and race against the old guys.

Jacopo Internal Routing

the B field in CRCA is a terminal class for Masters racers (at the option of the racers). Heck, that is what caused a bunch of the trouble and drama last year with the selective “downgrades” in the bike toss race.

Sven Vander Branden

Yes, Waggoner is strong enough to ride in the Cat 2 level, but whatever. If he has to go thru the ranks, let him.

Not sure what the big issue is, someone should have finished 2nd. Race with Waggoner, try to beat him on the line, at worst you’ll finish 2nd.

DH40

Not the only Expert/Semipro Mtn biker beating up on the Cat 4/5s. See the Kelly bros of Pawling year after year. Favata who races pro used to race Cat 3 and did ok. Its a different sport and it requires different skills so they should not be upgraded based on thier XC category. Finally, most of these guys use the road for training only for the XC season. I doubt you will see Waggoner much after his season really starts.

Oderigo Ceramic

Conversely, a strong racer, and skilled rider like Wilson has had his clock cleaned racing Mountain Bikes.

hack

There isn’t one serious 40+ CRCA member that is Cat 2 or 3 that would selectively do the B race just to get a result. Maybe someone might use it as a race to get in shape coming off an injury or a long layoff when they just want the competition but thats it.

The same guys that littered the result sheet in P123 are Masters.

mehi

Wilson came from Mnt Biking. His bike handling skills on a mountain bike were incredible yet he had a hard time in crits the first couple of years. It’s a different sensation. He flew through the ranks to cat 1 in a couple of years as his sprint is better served on the paved road.

Luchino Dropout

you guys really need a life if you’re complaining about a sandbagging cat 3 or 4 beating you.

perhaps seek to obtain some other objective evaluation of your existence other than usac or crca points…

Enzo Threadlock

I think Leszek is good for the cat 4 field. he is strong and willing to work. Instead of complaining get out in a break with him and beat him. Easier said than done. If you can’t get out there with him, do some work in the pack and help chase him down. Either way he is beating you by working really freaking hard so don’t complain.

Romain Crank

I love how Organic Athlete is on the defense again. No one even mentioned Lesnek in this thread and yet his teammates come in and get all defensive, and try to convince everyone that he is god’s gift to cat 4.
Look we get it. OA doesn’t want Lesnek to upgrade because they’ll never have another result again when he is a Cat 3.

Ayoub Plug

THIS IS SO FUNNY. I can’t believe they are complaining about the organic guy!!!!! He’s such a nice guy, I raced with him in Bear mountain. I wish I can be that strong when I turn 46!!!!!!!!
If you think you are stronger, then why didn’t you just go get him instead of chasing me down each time I go to bridge and sit behind my ass..You guys are so funny!!!!I can pretty much call you true sandbaggers. And I congratulate the break because they took advantage of field’s failure to chase… WELL DONE

Lucas Seatpost

Nobody’s talking about Lesnek except his teammates.
Nobody cares. Upgrade, don’t upgrade, no big deal.

Tibo Cogset

If I want to look at pictures of a bike race, I’ll look for pictures of a real race. With real athletes. This is just an aerobics class. And the only aerobics pics I want to see are the ones with babes in them. So babes only, please.

Kyllian Skidmark

No hope for Leszek to upgrade now

NYCSpringSeries: Leszek Sniadowski of CRCA/Organic Athlete is the Overall race leader with 204 points.

Wizard

Umm, you are so right, there is no hope for some. No need to be a math wizard to realize that if a Cat.4 upgrades to a Cat.3, he will still be in the Cat. 3/4 field in Spring Series.
