FBF Status 8/10/10

the race is on

From Charlie:

A bunch of people are asking if tonight’s FBF race starts earlier.  The answer is no.  We start at our normal start times: 6:30 for Cat 5 and 7 for Cat 3/4 and 1/2/3.

NEXT WEEK we start 10 minutes earlier:  6:20 for the Cat 5 and 6:50 for Cat 3/4 and 1/2/3.

I don’t know, I am sitting here in Park Slope, and it isn’t just raining, its a torrential downpour.

schmalz

FBF depends on the amount of rain and flooding, we will know at about 4:30 when Charlie gets there.

Patrick

…that was a water-assault.

I’m a bit east of FBF but from what I can see the front passed thru about two hours ago. We had 3-4 inches of standing water in the road after the storm, and I thought the race was done for certain.

BUT the ground was so dry that most of it has drained away already (3:30pm). The sun is out here now, incredible as it may seem. If the rain is over and first race isn’t for 3 hours, I’d say there’s a decent chance we get to start tonight. Sure it’ll be a bit wet and muddy in the corners (read: wear your old ratty kits), but don’t make dinner plans yet!

However, if it rains again, we’re probably out of luck.

NB – I am in no way authorized to call the race on or off, only Charlie can do that. This is just an observation from the beach.

schmalz

Race is on for now. The course has some large puddles that are drying. Final decision will be announced at 530.

Arne Plug

Schmalz,

If the puddles don’t dry further (as in if the race was to be raced now, not at 7) would the race be on?

herb

none taken, huggy bear, i was responding to the person using 7 question marks about the date on andy’s comment.

i’m one of the people that needs to start driving now. whats your call?

waldorf shnalad

good q … the race is on = means unless more rain we’re good to go, correct? otherwise it would be race is off unless puddles dry more?

Arne Plug

They won’t say “race is off, unless.” It’s “race is on until we say otherwise.” Given that dynamic, the pushed-back deadline, mention of puddles, and lack of drainage at FBF… it doesn’t sound good.

Recco Drainhole

Isn’t there a goup that meets at Prospect Park to ride over to the race. If so, where is the meeting place and what is the meeting time?

Race

3/4 Cheeseballs who do the sprint laps then quit the race should get no points unless they finish with the main group. Be like Hernandez of team Mexico who sprints, works hard the whole race and finishes. Many of the other guys who contest the sprints roll off early for their coconut water.

Cosimo Plug

i agree. always thought that was the rule. i remember years ago, i won a prime at floyd and had to kill myself to finish the race so i could collect my 20 bucks. i guess the sprint competition is different.

rule guy

if you really care, dont whine on nyvelocity, mention it to an official in the 15 minute protest period after the race. sprints/KOMs should be considered a points competitions within a race, and you should not get any points if you dont finish. see 2M6 (a): “… riders who fail to complete the race shall not be placed.”

Lenny Tracknut

People are racing just the way it is set up. There is a cat 4 winner listed (congrats Nate), an overall series leader (congrats Chris), some go for stage wins, some for sprint points. Is it too much? The unfair part is double points, which rewards neither consistency nor double effort. Perhaps on double points nights, everyone who has done at least half the series gets a few points just for starting. Why does the occasional racer get double points possibly throwing a season long series into doubt on just one night? Making double pts races longer would be good too, just not enough daylight.
Charlie is adding a lot into a 50 minute weekly training race, more fun for many. Lucky for us.

They don’t drop out of the race. Last night with the wind I’m sure they were dropped from the race. They’re Cat 4’s afterall.

Ridolfo Ceramic

Maybe if they didn’t sprint half way into the race they would have some energy left to finish.

So there seemed to be like 10 photographers out there last night, anyone post any pics?

fbf broseph

I noticed a lot of guys cutting through the middle last night. People really cheat at fbf?

rule guy

ok. continue to be a whiny bitch either too dumb to know the rules of his sport or too much of a p~ssy to bring it up at the race. enjoy being a “discussion forum” macho man with no sprint points and mid-pack finishes in the 4s.

Guillaume Bearing

Older cat 3 guys are having fun on bikes, better than just sucking 1/2/3 wheel. There is more fear racing near excitables.

Stan Tracknut

Hey non-whiny guy, you are so cool! Maybe someday everyone can sprint just like you. You are so fast.

Now go back to your mirror and admire yourself some more.

Race

Rule guy is an idiot. I’m not racing. I’m one of the macho whiny bitch spectators on lawn chairs. You sound like you could make me lots of $ if I bet on your sprint.

rule guy

race: if you are really watching a tuesday night world championship race at an abandoned airfield, checking out who wins the cat 4 sprints, making a mental note (or do you have a clipboard?) to see if they finish or quit, then taking a moment out of your busy day to come here to bitch about the fact that – by your calculations – some of them aren’t, then you are f-cking awesome and i bow down to you. i am not joking. that is a level of crazy i aspire to. respect.

stan: your comment, however, just sucked.

Enzo Ceramic

i’m having a hard time following this argument with this large cast of characters…. rule guy, whiney bitch, dude, non-whiney guy, and, last but not least, stan.

can we just go back to the days when everyone was wheelsucker?

Wet morning

Poor baby…keep crying…or may be next time get off your chair and race, and while you are at it, why don’t you tell all the “cheese balls” to their face at the race?

Now go clean my chamois

rule guy

Hey Wet morning, rules # 1 and 2 for NYVC “discussion forum”. 1- don’t say things to anyone’s face, 2-don’t sign your real name.

“or continue to be a whiny bitch too dumb to know the rules.”

rule guy OG

that post wasnt me – it is my nefarious nemesis, who has unscrupulously stolen my online persona through some serious hacking skills.

as everyone knows the 6 unwritten rules of nyvelocity are:

1. do not say anythng bad about alan atwood
2. do not say anythng bad about charlie i
3. do not say anythng bad about george hincapie
4. we spell it doosh
5. we spell it idot
6. we spell it moran

not saying anything to anyone’s face or using real names are certainly traditional but not rules. which is why chris yak became an instant hero:

errr, i think that “change the date” comment was pretty relevant here … some 1st timers get thrown off by the 6/29/2010
