Quick and dirty results via carrier pigeon. Give us more details if you have it.
123: Top locals are Beerman (6ish), Loehner (9ish), and Molloy (12ish)
35+: Badger 3rd, Alden 7th.
3: Break of about 20 stays away and finishes in small groups. Lubeley 4th, Della Monica 8th.
4: Riffelmacher solos after flatting and catching back on. Loudon crashes, apparently ok.
More to come.
Update:
Well, we did say quick and dirty, right? Real results here. We were a bit off on the 123’s.
Katie Lambden won the women’s!
Pascual Caputi won the juniors!
…won the 45+ at Battenkill-Roubaix. That would be Rafferty.
Won by Gisler of Westwood Velo
Battenkill 4
Break of about 15 went during the first dirt sections around 12 miles into it. Plenty of guys got caught out behind slower climbers, crappy traction, narrow road etc.
Will Riffelmacher had about a 20 sec lead by himself during the second dirt section with 25 miles to go when he flatted, got passed by the break waiting for his wheel, chased and got back on a few miles later. Then caught a lone breakaway rider and soloed in by himself. Not sure what kind of gap, but without the flat his gap might have been 3-5 min. He was riding away when it happened.
I saw the top 10, Will was the only city guy in it but I may have missed someone (sorry if I did). A Westwood guy was 7th or so and a couple of Bethel guys were in there also. Also Chris Shaw rode very well he was in a 3 man chase group probably got a top 15 or so.
Will rode an incredible race and is heading to bigger and better. Also a nice guy and humble victor.
such a great race, anytime you can combine dirt roads adn carbon wheels its the right outcome.
mike jones was so strong and just controlled the race. steep hills and dirt roads made for some serious fun.
i was dying up one of the climbs and saw sherry next to me, unfortunately for him, he had a flat. unfortunately for me, he had a flat and i wasn’t going much faster!
not that it needs to be said, but katie, you’re a badass
the results are up on bikereg.
great race. i suffered all day. thanks kenny, i took 16th, and have learned a valuable lesson about staying in front on dirt. the only flat part of the race was windy. i’d write something about the actual race but i was gapped about 10 miles in and never saw the front again despite chasing hard all day.
Good to hear Will is on form. Sounds like his performance at GMSR last fall (3 of 4 stage wins – 2 hardest in solo breaks). Congrats Will!!!
How about Lambden and Billington, two of the future stars if given the chance!!! Too Bad Beamon has no clue and isn’t racing Lambden when she has made such a huge jump. And Billington doesn’t even have a team, and was top 15 in almost every big NRC stage race!!
Who has pictures from the races?
I was in the lead group throughout in Cat 4…we were thoroughly out gunned by Will Riffelmacher. Huge relief when he flatted, even bigger surprise when he caught back on. No surprise when he rode away again.
Also, BTW, Billington is riding with us….Connecticut Coast Cycling (C3)…Go girl!
how long can you stay at the top of the CAt 4 USA cycling rankings without being upgraded? I’m sure he would do just as well in the 3’s any one out there have an answer??
Thanks Ken and Ben.
As for the issue of upgrading, I did not have enough points before this weekend to get an upgrade (GMSR was my first race as a cat 4). I put in for one today and hopefully it will go through.
That last turn was a doozy. Sorry to Andrew Cohen and the other guy who followed my line/arched skid through the sand into the ditch. At least the landing was soft. I’ll have to get out to some FBF races so I can learn to turn right…
Congrats to Will – the strongest rider definitely won. On the whole upgrading thing, Judy Miller will only let Will count 1/2 his points from Green Mountain (despite winning 3 of 4 stages and the GC). Could it get any more ridiculous? Kind of puts the whole issue of her not placing any value on the prospect or FBF races in a different perspective.
"Judy Miller will only let Will count 1/2 his points from Green Mountain (despite winning 3 of 4 stages and the GC). Could it get any more ridiculous?"
What do the rules say? Are you saying she is not following the rules?
Did anyone notice that both the Under and Over 35 Cat 5 winners finished with beter times than the Cat 4’s?
I did notice that the times seemed weird. I got 2:30 even for the cat 4 race on my computer.
I think the 4’s times were off because we started later than we were supposed to. The clock at the finish probably started at the scheduled start time rather than the actual start time.
I was wondering about those times. I didn’t pay attention but 2:30 sounds more reasonable for the winning Cat 4 time. If the 25 minute gap between the 3s and 4s were real it would make upgrading a painful prospect.
I’ll look at my spreadsheet on those times; perhaps one of my formulas got messed up.
The cat 4 was 2:30 its off 20 min.
I had 2:36 on my computer but in 17th.
Definitely screwed up. I forgot to start my computer until a few minutes into the neutral lap, and I am showing just over 2:30 as my total time.
Anyone have any comment on the 1-2 race? How did that race play out?
Brutality
OK, results are now fixed. Turns out the actual starting order was not what was published, so 3 of the fields had wrong times. Oh well, hope everyone enjoyed the race.
Alan
Thanks Alan. You and Dieter and everyone else put on a really good event.
Man, that event would have been something in the rain….
