Every cyclist in New York should be aware of Transportation Alternatives, an organization dedicated to “working for better bicycling, walking and public transit, and fewer cars”. And on top of a noble mission they are also one of the very few cycling related sites in our state that gets more hits than we do, so when they ask us to do something we oblige. Below is a message intended for you, dear NYVC reader:
Dear NYVelocity Reader,
I am writing to invite you to participate in Bike Month NYC 2006, an annual celebration of bicycling in May that draws popular support and press coverage in metropolitan New York City. Thousands of bicyclists from around the New York City area flock to the numerous events that make up Bike Month NYC, including rides, repair classes, films, races, snacks discussions and much more.
Bike Month NYC is a wonderful way to attract new members, customers or visitors while promoting bicycling in and around New York City. And it’s easy and free to be a part of it! Register a bicycling-related event that you’ve already planned for May or organize a new event.
-If you’re a bike club, register your existing May rides or consider holding a special Bike Month NYC ride.
-If you’re a bike shop, register your repair classes or offer special discounts during May to attract new customers
-If you’re an advocacy organization, register an already scheduled meeting, forum or other event with a bicycling-related theme or create a new event that helps promote your mission.
-If you’re a museum or cultural or environmental center, register a bicycling-related exhibit or offer discounted admission to bicyclists during May to attract more visitors.
We’ll advertise your event for free to tens of thousands of bicyclists in metropolitan New York City!
You can register your event online at www.BikeMonthNYC.org , there’s also a printable version of the registration form online which can be faxed to 212-629-8334. If you have questions feel free to email me, but the easiest way to register your event is by going through the website.

They have brought together groups that wouldn’t even talk to eachother in the past to form a coalition that the city and DOT must deal with. They are to be supported and applauded for their supper human effort. Also they need a advertizing corporation to help bring concerns to the public. I you can help please do. A human friendly city helps all of us.
