Greg LeMond posted this to his Facebook timeline this evening. Please pass it around. If you have a blog or a site take the copy and post it.
Can anyone help me out? I know this sounds kind of lame but I am not well versed in social marketing. I would like to send a message to everyone that really loves cycling. I do not use twitter and do not have an organized way of getting some of my own "rage" out. I want to tell the world of cycling to please join me in telling Pat McQuaid to f##k off and resign. I have never seen such an abuse of power in cycling’s history- resign Pat if you love cycling. Resign even if you hate the sport.
Pat McQuaid, you know damn well what has been going on in cycling, and if you want to deny it, then even more reasons why those who love cycling need to demand that you resign.
I have a file with what I believe is well documented proof that will exonerate Paul.
Pat in my opinion you and Hein are the corrupt part of the sport. I do not want to include everyone at the UCI because I believe that there are many, maybe most that work at the UCI that are dedicated to cycling, they do it out of the love of the sport, but you and your buddy Hein have destroyed the sport.
Pat, I thought you loved cycling? At one time you did and if you did love cycling please dig deep inside and remember that part of your life- allow cycling to grow and flourish- please! It is time to walk away. Walk away if you love cycling.
As a reminder I just want to point out that recently you accused me of being the cause of USADA’s investigation against Lance Armstrong. Why would you be inclined to go straight to me as the "cause"? Why shoot the messenger every time?
Every time you do this I get more and more entrenched. I was in your country over the last two weeks and I asked someone that knows you if you were someone that could be rehabilitated. His answer was very quick and it was not good for you. No was the answer, no, no , no!
The problem for sport is not drugs but corruption. You are the epitome of the word corruption.
You can read all about Webster’s definition of corruption. If you want I can re-post my attorney’s response to your letter where you threaten to sue me for calling the UCI corrupt. FYI I want to officially reiterate to you and Hein that in my opinion the two of your represent the essence of corruption.
I would encourage anyone that loves cycling to donate and support Paul in his fight against the Pat and Hein and the UCI. Skip lunch and donate the amount that you would have spent towards that Sunday buffet towards changing the sport of cycling.
I donated money for Paul’s defense, and I am willing to donate a lot more, but I would like to use it to lobby for dramatic change in cycling. The sport does not need Pat McQuaid or Hein Verbruggen- if this sport is going to change it is now. Not next year, not down the road, now! Now or never!
People that really care about cycling have the power to change cycling- change it now by voicing your thought and donating money towards Paul Kimmage’s defense, (Paul, I want to encourage you to not spend the money that has been donated to your defense fund on defending yourself in Switzerland. In my case, a USA citizen, I could care less if I lost the UCI’s bogus lawsuit. Use the money to lobby for real change).
If people really want to clean the sport of cycling up all you have to do is put your money where your mouth is.
Don’t buy a USA Cycling license. Give up racing for a year, just long enough to put the UCI and USA cycling out of business. We can then start from scratch and let the real lovers in cycling direct where and how the sport of cycling will go.
Please make a difference.
Greg
Here’s the letter in French as well.

Because, like the UCI, they have always known the truth and yet have always aggressively defended Armstrong, even joining in with Armstrong’s tactic of exploiting and feeding anti-French xenophobia in order to deflect criticism. Like the UCI they nothing more than Armstrong’s shills.

Tour de Farce
Lance Armstrong, Thom Weisel, and questions about anti-doping efforts in American cycling
By Matt Smith
Published: September 7, 2005
…the story – published in the French sports daily L’Equipe last month – was pretty shocking. It detailed laboratory reports showing that the seven-time Tour de France winner used banned performance-enhancing drugs to aid him in his first Tour victory in 1999.
…A few days later, the chief operating officer of USA Cycling, the governing body responsible for punishing bike-racing drug cheaters in this country, was quoted in more than 100 newspapers dismissing the L’Equipe piece as the scandalmongering of a French tabloid newspaper, adding, in a remarkable echo of Armstrong’s public position, that the positive drug results were unfair because they had been exposed by a news reporter, rather than through formal drug-policing protocols.
“To me, this is an issue for the French people. They seemed very concerned about it, and frankly I don’t care what they think. And I don’t think Lance does either,” Reuters quoted USA Cycling COO Steve Johnson as saying last week. “This is just a publication in a French tabloid newspaper. That’s our perspective.”
…There happens to be more to USA Cycling’s pooh-poohing of the charges against Armstrong than the news headlines suggested, however. This isn’t merely an instance of U.S. doping cops repelling spurious French charges against an American superhero.
Johnson, the widely quoted USA Cycling official, appears to suffer from a serious conflict of interest between his organization’s role as a doping cop and his personal, institutional, and financial ties to the diversified business world surrounding Lance Armstrong. Financier Weisel is Armstrong’s longtime patron, employer, investment manager, and friend. Weisel is also Johnson’s longtime patron and friend and the founder of a nonprofit entity that employs him.
And then there’s this little fact: Johnson essentially works for Armstrong…
Did I miss the doping confession part of this “open” letter? I don’t disagree that the UCI is corrupt, but I don’t want to hear it from LeMond. If you want to try to change the sport, Mr. Passive Aggressive “…I am not well versed in social marketing,” you should come clean.
LA, and LeMond: both quite talented, but both dopers. Who will confess first?
Mr. LeMond, your shit stinks, too. Get over yourself.
Critique the letter, but get off the nonsense – Lemond was never a doper.
Greg the whiner, never stops. He’ll always be an unprosecuted doper in my book. He is already a pathetic whiner without the dope. Glad Hinault handed him 1986 so he could shut the hell up. When I heard about Turkey shot, I knew it was Greg; biggest turkey of the bunch.
How is USA Cycling in this as deep as UCI now?
You have my full support!
Love
Wow. I love it. Well said, Greg.
This is a wonderful statement that challenges all fans of cycling to demand change and fight for the sport.
BRA-FUCKING-VO!!!!!!!!
It’s about time.
To think, LeMond was telling it like it is all this time….and Lance & others calling him a crazy old man.
Uhhh, how’s that crow taste to all the naysayers?
A year without USA Cycling is an interesting proposition. What does that mean in reality? Racing could still exist if there was another entity to insure them, no? Seems feasible. UCI races could be harder.
Standing ovation for Mr Lemond On to the Kimmage fund.
Who’s going to actually let their USAC license lapse? Who wont’ race. He’s got a point and I’m inclined to support it. Bankrupt the system. Ride your bike without any regard for these monsters ruining our sport.
Greg Lemond was a genuine MONSTER talent. Just sick shit that inspires envy or admiration (up to you). FUCK YES Greg!!!
Wow, LeMond is drunk off his ass for real.
I think the “real lovers” in cycling are playing golf with OJ’s real killers.
I agree that Pat McQuaid has been part of the problem, but at this point, I’d like to believe that someone as classy as Greg Lemond would address the issue with something a little more substantial that Fuck Off.
As for giving up my USA cycling license for a year, as a 46 year old man recently indoctrinated into the sport (drug free, I might add), I don’t have the luxury of time being on my side. I have goals and time is working against me. Supporting Paul Kimmage is within my means, skipping racing for a year is not. Somehow, I don’t think Paul’s defense is going to be very taxing at this juncture. Let’s support fair play and a drug free environment and help the UCI move the sport forward rather than defending those who should be completely exonerated.
Really?
bullshit right there. right idea, but no thanks Greg. You and your other pro friends broke it, you fix it. dont put it on me.
Well said Mr Lemond. I refuse to give any of my money to the UCI under this watch – Pat and Hein can do one thank very much. There are club events, if you love pro cycling it’s the only real solution open to us. The team should follow but are in too deep which is really sad….
Greg had the luxury of racing pre-testing….puhlease :-/
hey dumbass, in greg’s era they took pain pills and uppers. b12 shots for recovery. harcore physio-changing meds were for the bulgarian women weightlifters. thanks to eddie b for working out those early glitches for u.s. cycling….
I can’t believe that you douchebags that call out Greg don’t get it that after 30 years Greg never doped, never needed to dope and never would have stooped that low. In 30 years nobody has come forward, even after being offered money to do so by Asswipestrong, it never happened. The core of cycling corrupt culture starts with the UCI, roost them out and let’s start over!
…was never a doper you morons.
Interesting position on boycotting – if the pro’s were serious about getting rid of Hein and Pat, they would take the boycott option seriously. If the ASO RCS and Vuelta folks knew that a strike was in the works due to mismanagement of the governing bodies of the sport, they could seriously put the heat on McQuaid.
I just dont get why he wont step down. He’s had his chance to clean up the sport and he failed miserably. Ok he’s done some good things with the passports and such but as a whole, McQuaids leadership just stunk up the place. The crusade with the race radios, the dumb lawsuits, taking money from armstrong under the umbrella of donations – and then low and behold, the postal team somehow had duplicate equipment that the sport uses to test blood. How can one fight the dopers when the dopers have the equipment to check thier blood and know the outcome beforehand – that explains alot of the hemetcrit levels going to 49.9999
The whole system of leadership at the uci sucks right now. That press conference was a joke. what the fuck else could the uci do? The uci strips a rider of all results with no positive test??? so is this an admission that your tests dont work – or what? Lance could very well win @ CAS.
Thanks Greg for being strong, and not backing down. For being a leader, and still loving the sport of cycling,..and believing change is possible. I (and others) care about your well being,…take care of yourself too. I hope the UCI ends up looking like the fools as they attempt to sue more good people in the future.
You’re awesome – don’t ever change.
To free the future of cycling, cycling must free itself from the past.
Proposals:
1.  That an independent body be set up under WADA guidelines to handle all drug controls in 2014. It shall be funded by the Doping fees from the teams, as is now, but have no other contact and remain impartial to the athletes they are testing. For the 2013 Season we recommend that WADA appoint an independent overseer to handle the transfer of power and monitor information transfer.
2.  We call for Article 48 point 3, second sentence to be changed from the UCI constitution to prevent a dictorial situation from happing again:
(- The Management Committee shall be renewed every four years. Outgoing members shall be eligible for re-election.)
To: – The Management Committee shall be renewed every four years. Outgoing members shall NOT be eligible for re-election.
3. The current management committee to step down. A new committee elected. Preference being given to candidates representing growing nations with management experience and no possible links with tainted professional cycling era.
We thank the new generation of riders for choosing honour and choosing to ride clean and rebuild a beautiful sport of hope and hard work, building natural champions.
…but the fans will take down the UCI.
We’re the consumers, and ultimately we provide all the money, so the power lies with us. Social media is the means to begin exercising that power to produce the Pro Cycling scene, free of the cheating, lying and corruption that we’re sick of.
The pro peloton had better get on-side with this – it’s their future also. The deniers, like some of the Spanish contingent, better wake up else they’ll find themselves mocked, marginalised and confined to cycling’s dustbin.
Brave stuff there fella and another nail in the UCI coffin.trouble is its getting harder ti get the lid off.how about standing as president on an emergency AGM fallout?

Pat Mcquaid and Hein Verbruggen should resign.
Include your USACycling number.
Seems that most negative comments might be from an identical source. Probably a frustrated fanboy, polish or some charity scam HQ in Austin, Texas. This is primarily about corruption, not LA doped or Greg doped. McQuaid must go! FatPat is a disgrace. Hein must be removed as “honorary” president. These two fuckers have no place in cycling.

Nothing says change like an online petition..
The folks “governing” this sport respond to cash and seemingly little else:
First, I’m following Greg Lemond’s example and making my second donation to the Paul Kimmage Defense Fund today. I would like to see the total top $100,000 by the time of the court proceedings. A six-figure total plus the fact that donors number in the thousands would make a powerful statement to the UCI leadership.
Second, I would welcome an organized effort to lobby sponsors to conclude a legally binding agreement with each sponsored rider stipulating contract termination and a retroactive return of financial benefits in the event of suspension for doping. Others may suggest a more effective mechanism, but there has to be a connection between financial benefits and doping. Sponsors are the only ones in a position to make and enforce this connection.
While Greg’s 100% right about the UCI, he doesn’t understand at least how USA Cycling works.
USA Cycling is partially funded by the USOC, so they won’t dry-up and blow away if no one raced under USAC sanctioning.
USA Cycling is owned by Thom Wiesel. The same guy in Tailwind, the same guy who ran multiple doped teams. (Subaru and others) He’s got money to burn and one or more slow years won’t cost him much.
Get rid of Thom and dismantle USACDF. That USACDF is an awesome scam. He’s tithing the money that comes into it. http://www.cyclingnews.com/features/bisceglia-fires-back-at-usa-cycling-and-ochowicz still happening…
The grass roots guys will get hurt the most if you don’t spend money at USA Cycling. The likes of Wiesel and his pals will not be bothered in the least.
LA may be the only one that can throw Hein and Pat under the bus but perhaps they now pay for his silence just as he paid for theirs in the past. Ironic?
“Don’t buy a USA Cycling license. Give up racing for a year, just long enough to put the UCI and USA cycling out of business. We can then start from scratch and let the real lovers in cycling direct where and how the sport of cycling will go.”
Because a bunch of pros (well, let’s face it, almost all of them) dope, I should give up racing as a Cat3/Master for a year? Give me a break.
We should all be pressuring USACycling to dramatically increase amateur, random, unannounced drug testing at everywhere from Fitchburg to Tuesday night at Floyd Bennett Field.
I think I will send an e-mail to USA Cycling to that affect today. That, along with the fact that I will never, ever dope to do better in BIKE race is my contribution to the doping problem in this sport.
Let the pros sort our their own shit show.
Exactly! I can’t believe you suckers are all drooling over this dumbass idea. Plus he doesn’t even care enough to hire somebody to write a proper press release and figure out how to do the social networking thing? Sorry, but starting with “i know this is kinda lame” does not inspire a movement.
And yes, more to the point.,. I stop racing and the pros continue? What sense does that make? Do we even know that the UCI gets that much from our licenses? A little math might have helped his presentation.
It’s easy to make that suggestion in October.
Let’s see how effective that is when battenkill registration opens.
http://www.facebook.com/pages/Hein-Verbruggen-and-Pat-McQuaid-Should-Resign-from-the-UCI/502811146403499?ref=hl
I just look at it all I knew he was right Now EVERYONE knows he was right. Why do people thing its a good Idea to have a corrupt old school crowd at the top of the sport.
Took real guts for Greg to speak out 10 years ago. Guts that the two plonkers at the uci don’t have.
“USA Cycling, which ceded its role investigating and punishing dopers when USADA was created in 2000, responded in an e-mailed statement, saying it is not responsible for drug testing and anti-doping control and that no license fees collected from the thousands of national events it sanctions each year are sent to UCI.
“LeMond’s suggestion that cyclists abandon USA Cycling is misguided and betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of USA Cycling’s role in the national and international cycling community,†the statement said. “Indeed, USA Cycling has evolved significantly since Mr. LeMond’s retirement from cycling in 1994 and, frankly, Mr. LeMond would be gratified to learn that cycling within the United States today is actually governed in the manner he heralds.—
…agrees with HOW he said it or not, greg is absolutely correct…
…the real issue is corruption well beyond the typical “oh, armstrong donated & skated”…
…that part of the deal is still (semi) small potatoes…
…the uci has been around as the worldwide governing body for over a 100 years & as of late, heinnie & patty have been seeing constant challenges to their “authority” & you can be damn sure that they’ll use any tactic they can employ to cement their position…
…amaury sports & others, basically, the owners of the 3 major tours & other popular races recently challenged them about who defines which teams get to race in their events…”not nice” sez the uci…
…then vaughters & bruyneel more recently waved a few threatening concepts a la, a separate race series, in their faces…”we don’t like” sez the uci…
…the uci’s “tour of china” isn’t about paving the way for chinese sport cycling, a concept that could ride the back burner for years to come…it’s to cement the uci’s overall hold on the sport before someone comes along & usurps their authority…
…the uci thought they had a hero for the ages in armstrong, a guy, who with a little “backing” made them look like the winning act…not so much…hadda throw that sucker under the bus to salvage their own asses when some honest to god truth got serious momentum behind it…
…so, greg lemond, paul kimmage & the others, whether they speak it eloquently or to your liking, do have the ultimate & long term good of the sport in mind…
…in support, with love, bgw…
Surprised that USA Cycling didn’t call LeMond a scumbag.
…needs more dots…
Look, it’s not “how he said it” that I have a problem with. Calling for a boycott and hoping to bankrupt an organization that has fuckall to do with what you hope to change is not “how you say it” Saying that if we don’t get licenses for a year, McQuaid will be sacked is incorrect. He is basically trying to take a hostage.
Love “Jack Lemon”!
If everyone boycotts the races I may finally get a top 10 finish.I’m looking forward to a great season.
If we boycott racing for a year, can we shut down velocity til March 2014? what’s the point of reading if there’s no racing, right? Maybe then I’ll have time to train too.
USAC has one mission, in 2 parts
A. maintain their relationship with the USOC so that they can continue to get free Olympic tix for members of the Champions Club.
B. sell annual licenses to suckers like us to fund A.
…that kinda makes you the idiot…
…”what” lemond is saying is – “the uci is highly corrupt at the top”…
…his boycott deal, which doesn’t logistically make much sense to me either, is part of the “how” he’s expressing it be dealt with…
…get worldly, babe…
…expecting more of you, with love, bgw…
So….I don’t like Domino’s politics,so I will boycott Papa Johns. Does that make sense in your world?
Lemond’s proposed boycott is worse than useless, but if the incorrect assumptions he (presumably) made held, there’d be a reasonable point to it. With any luck he’ll graciously concede that he was wrong there.
Everything else is right on. Though he doesn’t do himself any favors posting while (presumably, again) shitfaced.
So Where is Dylan Casey now?
…you ARE an idiot…
…i’m not gonna address your idiotic “pizza politics” when i clearly stated that lemond’s boycott didn’t make sense to me…
…what’s greg’s real message ???…once again – corruption…
…i’m done “gossiping”…
…go ride your bike but please pay attention to what’s going on around you…
…with (a little) love, bgw…
put your tin foil hat away. Yes, its all corrupt, but not a deep seated conspiracy. Get rid of McQuaid, don’t worry about amateur licenses. nuff said. nuttin but love for ya baby
…no conspiracies…
…like any corporation, the uci is trying to protect it’s interests…
…but just like the business world, some companies are ethical & some employ nefarious, underhanded methods to advance…
…greg lemond, while overly passionate at times, is simply a whistle blower…
…& that ain’t dixie, love, bgw…

Dylan Casey, born 13 April 1971 in Walnut Creek, California, is a retired American professional cyclist, who rode for US Postal alongside Lance Armstrong. In his former position at Google, he edited search results so that strings like “Lance Armstrong doping” pointed to livestrong.com. He also did presentations to google employees wherein he explained that all doping controversies were merely scandalmongering by the French in the attempt to sell more newspapers. He was a member of the 2012 Olympic cycling team selection committee based on his experience of staying out of the line of fire and not punching Prentice Steffan. In his free time, he edits his wikipedia entry and denies that he is rider 18, although some (citation needed) have speculated that he will soon confess in order to seem relevant.
Thank you Liguiguts for that short bio on Dylan Casey.
If Dylan Casey is found to be rider #18 and where to confess voluntary would this have any implications for USAC?, and would it effect his position as the big shot of The (Noon) goon rides in and around Palo Alto Cycling?
who is dylan casey and who cares?
clearly his impact on cycling is as far and wide as my nostril.
Maybe it’s time to pick a new sport, this is farce and they all cheated. It’s tainted.
I believe Dylan Casey was a teammate of Lance Armstrong, since retired from the sport. If I am correct he also was on a committee which was charged with picking US athletes represent the USA at World Championship venues.
I would find it a bit ironic if he was found out to be rider #18 as has come up here now on the forum.
IF that where to be confirmed it would make sense that USAC would have some pie on their faces. Lest anybody forget a person named Matt White …… Or is that so far in the past now (APX) two weeks that we as the cycling fans and supporters would just let another one slide by. His name seems to be coming up more and more . Where there is smoke there is or (was) a fire. ARSON PERHAPS?

Great to hear a REAL champion express his views in such a forthright way.
Sure we can all not pay our fee’s for 2013 but how long till affects the UCI? Months maybe a year or two? I’m not saying its a bad thing but.
Now imagine if every Pro Tour team pulls out their Bank Guarantee’s and doesn’t have their riders pay their much higher fee’s and the teams also don’t pay their fee’s till McQuaid is gone? Why stop there, don’t race a Pro Tour race till he’s gone. Don’t pay the race entry fee’s and send a cancellation of attendance to any race till he’s gone. This might start to make an effect in a week. Much faster.
Not saying I’m not joining in just that there is a much quicker method to this.
…IS a champion & he firmly backed armstrong until such time as he heard that his younger compatriot was seeing dr ferrari & it was when greg expressed his concerns because he already knew of the doctor’s reputation that the systematic denigration by armstrong started to take place…
…over the years, both men have been known to shoot their mouths off about others in the cycling world but the difference is greg is trying to be honest, lance, not so much…
…by opening the book to inspection, greg comes out on top…
…by lies, denial, innuendo & the denigration of selected people, lance tried to control what others believed but that hasn’t worked out too well for him…
…looking at the open road, with love, bgw…
and Kimmage is riding away. Case was dropped.

…de france was in armstrongs sights not just as a rider…
…he spoke of hoping to become an owner a number of years ago…
…i can’t help but think how exponentialy more ironic this saga would all be if armstrong had managed to pull together the kind of capital required to finance a takeover of le tour de france…
…ultimately, i’m sure french pride would preclude that from ever happening but then again, the right offer can change the landscape…
…sighing with relief n’ love, bgw…
Wish this bikesoverthemoon guy would go away !Talks so much twaddle ! Give us all a break please.

seriously, what the fuck are you talking about. normally i just don’t read your shit because of the dots, and just kind of get a little annoyed that your pointless stylistic flourishes are crowding the thread. so, back to that, i guess.
What about me? I want some $ too, but I didn’t donate to the FFF. Will you donate money to people for not being dumb enough to give money to yet another “innocent” pro cyclist?
Lemonds trainer/soigner was known for doping riders up to the testing limits used back then. Just like 49.999% for hemocrit.
Remember when Lemond started wearing braces? His jaw was growing from the dope. Carl Lewis did the same thing.
I still like Lemond and his fight for a cleaner sport.
Wasn’t it Hampsten with the braces?
Stupidity …. combined with arrogance …. and a huge ego will get.. you a long way
It’s like a rod mckuen poem in here….with love….
It’s like a whosawhat in here? Don’t EVER do that again!
…now it’s like a big warm hug in here…
…but how about we applaud the people who have stood up to those who would try to control & exploit the sport for their own interests…
…betsy n’ frankie andreu, emma o’reilly, michael anderson (now off in nz), david walsh, paul kimmage, greg lemond (& pardon me to those i’ve missed) have all paid a price in trying to expose the grand deceivers of the sport…
…say what you will about floyd landis & tyler hamilton but it was floyd who, having paid a huge price for his own transgressions in losing a wife & child to divorce & a brother in law to suicide whist perpetuating the myth, finally said enough after basically being ‘black-balled’ by the sport…
…when sinking low enough, some people end things in despair & others decide to try & make a difference…
…so, thank you, floyd, i think ultimately you’ll have made a difference…
