Olympics argument

Who gets to go?

It’s an Olympic year, and in keeping with all things Olympic, we will have a gold medal argument. Are we getting the selection for the Olympic road race right? Should we be picking pros who might be worn out from the Tour, or should we pick riders who will focus entirely on the Olympics? Should the selection process be about making the best team – not the collection of best riders? And is there any way the selection process can be skewed to give a Olympic chance to the New York City Ladies’ Sprint Champion?

Only pro-tour pros are versed in the complicated training priciples of EPO micro-dosing and blood transfusions. Therefore, they must be the ones to go to Olympics. Others will not be competitive. Cancellara at 170-179 lbs going up 5-7% grade for 14k each lap?! With skinny guys like Contador and Sanchez? Please.

The NYC Ladies’ Sprint Champ would be too worn out from the Tue night Floyd series to focus on the Olympics.

Any process that yields Leipheimer as The Guy in a one-day event against an international field is clearly flawed. Hincapie (at least, the Hincapie Plus of the Postal/Disco days), Vande Velde or Chris Horner would each have been just as good or better in the role of protected rider.

Do you really think that Sanchez and Contador are cleaner than Cancellara? Cancellara did exactly what you would expect out of a guy like him. He went across the gap on a flat-to-downhill section like a runaway train but then had nothing against the climbers on an uphill finish. Not saying he’s clean, but he’s not on some secret Bjarne Riis potion that the Spanish guys haven’t discovered.

what the process is, much less what its detailed flaws and foibles are. Who does know this? Who cares. None of us Cat 5-4-3-2s are in contention anyway. Beijing is too far from CP.

Bolt from Jamaica is a freak of nature. Where in the world do you get a guy who can beat everybody in the world while clearly holding back. I have to wonder what his power output would be if it could be measured. 9.69 seconds in the 100 while celebrating the last 15 meters. His top speed is estimated at 30 mph. I couldn’t beat him even if I’m riding a bike.

Cancellara had a pretty good race and it was very exiting to see him bridge. I thought he would win again but he had very little left in the end. Glad for Sammy Sanchez but struggled to see why Contador, having focussed on the Olympics after missing the tour did not make it in the end. Course suited him perfectly in my opinion.

The Scottish guy on Cycling.tv said that riding a Grand Tour makes you pretty strong and it is not uncommon for these pros to have their next big race within a week after finishing a grand tour.

Unfortunately not on the US Team. I think schmalz means the US when he says we. But I’m not sure where his loyalties lie.

my point was that we should pick “tired” tour riders, vs. some less talented domestic guy who concentrates solely on the olympics, given that tour participation did not seem to slow sanchex or cancellara

Ouch…..does anyone think we’ll have a shot to win a world championship or Olympic medal in our lifetime?

Will be the British in track cycling. Even Cavendish said that all of his Tour wins would mean nothing to the British public compared to getting Gold at the Olympics. The British track school and system will be a gold medal mint for years to come.

is to wear one of those EPO laced Livestrong bracelets now available on Lance’s website…Mix that with some FRS and you’re sure to take gold, silver, and bronze in each event.

Shoulda kept the masks on.

Phinney could contend in the future. Sarah Hammer big disappointment in the pursuit.

Who is the dill weed posting links to other dumb threads from this site. Its like the guy is so bored he is trying to get stupid hate going on each thread.

Sweet!

captain clarification

the skids were referring to the skid calculator that fixed gear dooshes uses to see where they will be wearing their tires down when they do fancy skids. then skid was used to refer to a skidmark, also known as poopie pants.

(i didn’t see anyone hating on slokar anywhere. just some good-natured laughs regarding someone who had a great win last weekend. those comments are hilarious. don’t make up hate where it doesn’t exist)
