PARTICIPATE IN SURVEY TO FULFILL AN 80 YEAR-OLD DREAM

New York City was once the world’s center of track racing. In fact, very early on Madison Square Garden was a velodrome, from which the sport derives the event designation "Madison." At Ghent, annual Six Day races close to the tune "New York, New York!" In the 1920s track racing was the equivalent of today’s NASCAR, and velodromes drew tens of thousands of people. But in August, 1930 the New York City Velodrome burned to the ground. Due to grave economic times and the Great Depression, the velodrome was not rebuilt.

For nearly 80 years cyclists around the world have dreamed of bringing an indoor velodrome back to New York. Today, that dream is closer than ever to becoming a reality. Velodrome of New York City, Inc., a non-profit organization, is committed to bringing a world-class indoor velodrome back to this great city and, at the same time, provide a community events center to promote sports, health, youth programs, year-round cycling, and civic good will. We’re also dedicated to developing future generations of Olympic cyclists!
