Hopeful Friday 7/17/2009

Racing, almost everywhere

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve done a Hopeful Friday, so I’m a little out of practice, so bear with me as I bring myself up to speed on the dog eat dog world of East Coast Category racing.

The Tour de ‘Toona has been going on since Thursday, so if you’re not already there, chances are you don’t care.

The Owasco Stage Race is happening in Auburn, NY over the weekend.

Closer to home – or at your home, if you live in Prospect Park, is the Al Toefield Memorial Road race on Saturday.

Sunday has a CRCA club race in Central Park.

Sherwinism of the day: “Bridge to engine room, need more power!”

or “Boom boom, out go the lights!”

Paulie has been a troubled street kid from the age of nine. He dropped out of school after the 9th grade[4] and spent time in and out of juvenile correctional facilities during his early youth. When he was 17 he became an enforcer for “Johnny Boy” Soprano, Tony’s father and captain in the DiMeo crime family. His mother, later discovered to be his aunt, worked at Krispy Kreme for a period of time. Paulie’s grandfather, who immigrated to the United States in 1910, is from Ariano Irpino, a municipality in the province of Avellino, in the Campania region of Italy. Paulie’s grandfather and both of Tony’s grandparents on his father’s side were from the same province in Italy. He spent some time in the US Army Signal Corps, where he was eventually drummed out through Section 8 (discharged because of psychiatric reasons). Although Paulie did not have a long military career, he still is proud of it, and few of the other Sopranos characters had military experience. Afterwards, he spent more time in and out of prison on various criminal charges. Eventually, he worked his way up through the DiMeo crime family, reaching the rank of Captain, and almost 6 years after Anthony “Tony” Soprano became Boss of New Jersey, Paulie was promoted to Tony’s Underboss, and Christopher Moltisanti was put in charge of Paulie’s crew, which earlier was Tony’s crew. Paulie got his nickname “Paulie Walnuts” due to hijacking a truck in the 1990s which he believed was filled with television-sets, but only contained walnuts. His name is taken from real life DeCavalcante crime family mobster Frank Gualtieri, who served under Vincent Palermo.

And there you have it…

Paulie threw his gel wrapper into the road, in addition to his usual bullshit. I think it was great that Etsu confronted him, obviously the guy is not going to take criticism rationally but that doesn’t mean he should just be allowed to keep getting away with his shit.

Not even 3 minutes before the altercation Alex R was begging him to get out of the joggers lane and he wouldn’t do it. Just kept antagonizing poor Alex and when he finally moves he still had to stick his front wheel in the road. The dud is like 44 going on 14.

Was riding with his homie in CP in last month and they ran into a jogger/walker – as they were carting the woman/victim off into an ambulance with an obvious leg injury I overheard his bud bitching that now he’s pissed b/c now he needs to buy a new helmet…

Wheelsucker

to prove how much of a stubborn idiot this guy is- the minute the race is done, he takes his helmet off, puts it in his back pack, and then rides home- he’s so smrt!
