I’m emailing off list today because there’s a very important issue that we need to address and an open forum is not the place for this sort of discussion.
I’m starting to have doubts about Jeff’s level of commitment to the team.
There, I said it. Some of you may disagree, but I think there’s more than enough evidence to support my claim. I have been keeping detailed records of the grievances against Jeff, and although some of the filings against him have expired (most “strikes” only last for one calendar year—you can read more about the process in the team PDF up on Google Docs, the strikes section is on page 43), he’s amassed many more strikes in the last twelve months, and I think it may be time to do something about it. The spread sheet does not lie.
In the past year, he’s:
Held the team shoe cover order hostage by not ordering in a timely manner and then not paying via Paypal.
Decided to race the masters category at Battenkill when his services were needed to help ensure team success in the cat 4 race.
He regularly talks to racers from other teams during races.
He has not followed the race schedule drawn out for him, and excuses himself from races due to “work” or “family” commitments.
He has not signed up for Strava.
He does not take his training seriously because he has neither a power meter nor a coach.
He has not submitted anything to the team Instagram feed, and he doesn’t tag his posts on the team Facebook page.
He is regularly seen in arm warmers and vests from previous editions of the team kit, which lowers the ROI of the team’s current sponsors, which is VERY bad. The team sponsors may not say anything, but I know that they notice this sort of thing. If any sponsors saw us racing at 6:30 in the park, I think they would have a fit if they saw Jeff in kit without their current branding represented.
These are all strikes that have happened THIS season. I won’t even go into the strikes from previous seasons, because I don’t feel like opening old wounds.
That’s why I’m emailing all of you. I suggest that we set up an online vote to decide whether Jeff stays on the team or not. I don’t like using the “nuclear option”, but I think in this case it is warranted. There are four of us who never got their shoe covers because Jeff couldn’t be bothered to get his order in on time. If a quorum (the team by-laws state that we need 67% in favor to kick someone off the team—again check the team PDF, page 64) is reached, I will then notify Jeff of the team’s decision.
I can tell you that this is one of the duties I have as team manager that I do NOT relish (I know all of you would much rather be gunning it in a lead out as we get our first cat four win—it’s SO close, I can feel it!), but with great power comes great responsibility, to quote Spiderman’s dead uncle.
Wearing last years kit arm warmers or even socks is no joke. When one pays for the privilege to wear a team kit, one ought take that responsibility more seriously than Jeff apparently does. So not pro.
Jeff? Jeff who?
Jeff’s Gran Fondos aren’t well organized.
Dan
I have other issues with Jeff
(1) Socks payment-
He still owes money for the extra socks. No more XL so he got S.
(2) Paypal – He still does not have paypal account. Wasn’t that part of the deal in joining the team?
(3) Team bike – He is also still riding bikes from last year’s sponsors. He should be selling that on social media or eBay, quietly.
(4) He missed his turn to write a race report(again)
(5) He raced in two different categories using his US and fake Int’l license…
Y’all know this is satire right….?
Wikipedia has updated the entry for “gullible” again. So sad.
I vote to kick Quentin and SS off the team. We need Jeff because of his sponsor connection to RacePills. No way I’m going back to those crap electrolyte gels we had to use last season.
This is amateur racing. Get over yourselves. No one cares about the results of Cat 4 races. Masters cyclists race for fun, do not entertain delusions of professionalism and at that point in life have made a clear commitments to their career and family. Cycling is what we do for fun, primarily on the weekends. Take it down a notch, or ten. Most are just seeking good people to ride with. Based upon the character exhibited in the email above, Jeff may want to seek a more welcoming group of “teammates”.
How did you ever keep the team pdf under 200 pages. My team keeps trying but no luck:(
Hey guys, no idea who Jeff is..just wondering why this is all public? Seems peculiar.
the funny thing is that Quentin is just as righteous as the guys he’s criticizing
Snitch.
The incredulous hulk criticizing the critic’s criticism. Nice one. đ
Fellow teammate here. Hate to dredge up the past but last year, unbeknownst to the team, Jeff decided to do the 5 Boro Bike Tour. I guess he wanted to get some quality time in w some non-racer bike “friends”. While the team has no hard rules against doing non sanctioned races, we do expect members to always be drillin-n-killin it, especially when donning full team regalia. Just rolling in to the finish with a bunch of civilians totally undermines our well revered team brand.
So glad someone is finally bringing this out in the spotlight. I’ve been trying to get attention about this for a long time #jeffisaloser. Unfortunately it hasn’t gotten any traction. And to the poster above “No one cares about the results of Cat 4 races”…maybe you should have stayed in Cat5, or maybe you still are? hahaha you’re a loser too
I find it funny that apparently some don’t get the fact that the column is meant in jest.
While we are on the topic of strikes, during last Wednesday’s team intervals in Central Park, Quentin had the audacity to rip a nasty fart during one of his short pulls in front. Totally rude and deserves to be documented I case he continues being so selfish.
I also saw SS salmoning on 9W, which is likely going to alert law enforcement to our team colors and therefore increase the chances of tickets for riding out of single file.
I once saw Andy Shen on a Cannondale mountain bike. Your kits says “BH” in big letters right?
I care about Cat 4 results. And I’ll gladly take Jeff’s place once you fire him, as clearly you should. My family has made clear they are perfectly happy, actually more happy, to not have me around on weekends.
That’s totally Jeff
Jeff rode a good race. But he wore last years socks.
Jeff crashed out half the 3/4 field at FBF because he was carelessly overlapping wheels and overreacted as they headed for the finish.
But Lucas, it can’t just be about you or your team!
dan = funny
rest of you = not
