From Tracy Lea:
Damian had his second facial reconstruction surgery this past Tuesday at NYU Langone Medical Center. It was tough going but now with this big surgery over, he can begin his healing and getting back on his bike in 2 or 3 weeks. He is scheduled to try on his new arms in a few weeks along with the adaptive bar set up thanks to Endurancewerx, Ifixbyx and Toga Bikes. Shimano’s Di2 electronic shift system is key to making his prosthetics manage the shifting. Thank you Shimano. Endurancewerx and Ifixbyx are working on developing a braking system for Damian… stay tuned on that one.
Here’s a thought – for any of you who have not contributed to the Team Damian fund ( PayPal: TEAMDAMIAN2011@gmail.com) Mothers Day is a great day for making your gift – tell your mom that you are making a gift to Damian in her honor! A nice way to do two nice things. I know that Damian’s mom will be very appreciative of any support you can give.
Thanks to all of you and your support of Damian. He is looking forward to riding with everyone in the park in not too many more weeks. He is hoping if all goes well, he can test his legs and his new arms in a Para Cycling World Cup in early July in Canada.
It’s so wonderful the way this community is coming together to do something positive. Kudos to everyone, not least of whom are Chad Butts of EnduranceWerx and Mark Purdy of Ifixbyx. Of course, there are tons of other people (especially the medical staff) who deserve praise for this beautiful process. Way to go NYC cycling community. Nice to see us using our powers for good, and not for evil.
