Cycopaths

Section head text.

Mr. 60% of NYC has graciously allowed us to poach entries from his blog Cycopaths. Said the enigmatic Mr. 60%, “I’m psyched to be a contributor, albeit anonymously. It’s like wearing a Mexican Wrestler’s mask in a porn movie.”

VDB Admits Doping: Sun Rises in the East

@##=#<3,R>@##=#In an auto-biography to be published next month, Frank Vandenbroucke, the Whitney Houston of Belgian cycling, admits to having used EPO in the past. According to the publisher, Borgerhoff & Lamberigts, he is quoted as saying “EPO? Everyone did it. Me too.” It is not certain yet whether Judith Regan had a hand in the deal, nor if had VDB killed Nicole Simpson, would he have done so while on EPO.

Vandenbrouke is perhaps best remembered for his dramatic 1999 Liege-Bastogne-Liege win as much as for his announcement on television prior to the race where and when he would attack. Well, that, and for having had an affair with Miss Belgium. Oh, and pulling a gun on his wife. Right, and don’t forget his riding for eight teams in seven years: Cofidis, Lampre, Domo-Farm Frites, QuickStep-Davitamon, Fassa Bortolo, MrBookmaker.com, Unibet, and his current squad Aqua Sapone. He also cuts a dashing figure in crisp, white over-socks.

NFL Players say no to Dick

Dick Pounder and his WADA goons, that is. NFL Players’ Union executive director Gene Upshaw questions WADA’s reliability:

“I have no confidence in WADA or their kits,” Upshaw told the Observer in an e-mail. “I have my doubts about WADA and their history. I am not willing to accept them as an authority on this.”

It’s shocking that a players’ union would try to block a doping test. Next thing you know, baseball players won’t want steroid tests and 40%+ of cyclist will want therapeutic use exemptions. On the other hand, WADA’s credibility being challenged is a Good Thing(TM). I’m with Gene; I have no confidence in WADA, unless of course by confidence you mean belief in the ability to ruin lives.

Mysterious Birillo Found!

@##=#<2,L>@##=#The picture at left, snapped yesterday in Verona by intrepid Cycopaths photographer El Queco, may be of Operation Puerto stalwart Birillo. He was seen leaving the famous Bugiardo Hotel early in the morning.

“He emerged after dawn with one of his handlers. I’d been waiting all night and was amazed by his nonchalance. He walked to the corner, pooped on Clinton’s face, and as simple as that, turned and went back into the hotel,” said a stunned Queco.

Birillo first came to our attention last summer when Spanish magazine ‘Interview’ leaked pages of the Operation Puerto Dossier. In it, Birillo is listed as having received $70,000 of doping products. At first it was thought that Birillo was a codename for Ivan Basso, who subsequently was dropped by his CSC team from their Tour de France roster. After a thorough investigation by Spanish Authorities it was revealed that Birillo was Basso’s dog, clearly vindicating the Italian rider. This freed a relieved Basso to sign for team Discovery Channel, a team with much more private and sophisticated ‘training’ regimen. It is not yet known why a chihuahua needs seventy grand in doping supplies, but many believe (nobody really- ed.)Birillo has therapeutic exemptions for many of them.

More as this story develops.

It seems like "JFT is so charming" has a crush on JT. To have found that photo, he/she would have to be a fan.

Even better is that it may be a man-crush.

pay attention

That Meeseuw stuff is old news (apart from his recent admission). He got a two-year ban just as he retired and the stories about stuff hidden in bread and code names for the drug (wasp) were in the press at the time.

walter

as Chris pointed out, DIRECT not crude. And yes, i am normally that direct in real life. the owners of this site are much more diplomatic.
you obviously know nothing about the owners of this site otherwise you (and the other lame-asses) wouldn’t make such ridiculous comments…

RIDICULOUS:
American Heritage: adj. Deserving or inspiring ridicule

So in that spirit: "I fart in your general direction"
(I think that qualifies as direct AND crude…but also funny)

schmalz

For the snowmen, those insulated polar bottles, the ones that are meant to keep stuff cold? They also keep your water from freezing. Free tip!

Chris M

Walter wasnt all that crude, if you ask me. Just direct. I dont think the NYVC crew sets a poor tone AT ALL – I attribute the vitriol sometimes seen solely to the ability to post anon – they cant control what people say when they have no attribution. I see this as the true colors coming out in people when set free to express opinions – not all bad, mind you. Clearly its a mix of freedom of expresssion with a topic that is supposed to be about fun to begin with. A great excuse to act like a 5th grader… Dont blame the host though for a rude guest…

Anonymous

Nothing wrong with anonymous posts or having fun.
Only point is that the tone of Walter’s response
"where did all of these lame-ass haters come from? go back to your tri-holes!" reflects the tone of the site. It’s the kind of response encouraged by how material is presented on the site. In real life, i’m sure that Walter is not nearly so crude. The tone of the discussion on the site is more a reflection of the owners of the site than the cycling community.

Local

Come on…they pulled alleged "doping info" about local racers, some of which came true, most of which was false. I’d say it’s a lot more likely for VDB than Schmalz to be doping, although after reading his training log it makes me wonder….
Do you all really think NYVelocity is going to ruin VDB’s life?

YOU HYPOCRITICAL ASSBAGS

in the past, the owners of this site have removed comments from people rampantly accusing riders of doping without any proof. now you spotlight a blog that does exactly that??? i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again, you guys need to make up your damn minds.

Mr. 60%

Carol: you deserve an award.
I really hope someone made you up. How meta.
Assuming that you are a real person, may I suggest you outright ban your husband from using this site. That way he will have no choice but to spend more of his time with the humorless, overly critical harpy that he chose for a wife, We’ll be here for him cracking each other up should he miss the snarky fun.

How is using your maiden name any diffrernt from my ‘nickname?’
If you Google my name, at least you get a pic of Bjarne Riis.

anonymous

listen, to allow anonymous posting is very scarce these days. thank god for nyvelocity. the site is very interesting, keeps me coming back for more.

Carol Doyale

You got that right that they set the tone… If it is not this person it is that person and I am tired of it too. It is really a shame that people act the way that they do and Nyvelocity does nothing to correct the issue. I can’t even use my husbands last name because I am afraid of the issues that may arise. So insted I used my maiden name. At least I am woman enough to do so but you other pigs are cowards. I am doing everything I can to discourage my husband from reading any material on this site.

Chris M

I just love some anon pansy posting a complaint about an anon blogger. Do you know how stupid you seem? I repeat my last post: Get some sack, Man! If you have a legit complaint, come out into the air and have a voice…

Eugene

This is the first time in years that VDB has been relevant. Every year, we read about his new comebacks– he’s on "X" squad, and he’s been training, watch out!

Anonymous

Anonymous posting on nyvelocity is one thing- nyvelocity reposting anonymous bloggers is another.
Last I want to hear from the nyvelocity crew about it’s readers being dicks or whatever. They set the tone.

Doped or not, a whacko

Vandenbroucke made the news last week (Aug. 2006) when it was reported that he had been racing with false identification papers in Italy, complete with a photo of Belgian world champion Tom Boonen on his racing license.

According to the newspaper reports the Belgian’s race tactics consisted of setting a blistering pace at the front of the peloton until most of them dropped off.

After taking a healthy lead over the bunch after around 60km of racing, Vandenbroucke would peel off himself – and head for his home, near Milan, before the race finish.

schmalz

VDB admits being in a book he may or may not have written about doping, or maybe not, first he needs to consult with his dog…

Accuracy

have you guys got Jason Blair writing your stories? At least fact check it before you post it. The media have damaged our sport enough already.

Fact-Freak JT

Borgerhoff&Lamberigts, the publisher of VDB’s autobiography (which hasn’t yet come out) denies that he says he took EPO.

Also, the title of the book is awesome "I Am Not God"
