Cycling News
In commemorative of tenth anniversary of Sept.11, New York City will be hosting the World Police Fire games. 19,000 Police officers and Fire fighters from around the World will be competing in 65 sports, every two years the games are hosted in a different country.
Being a local racer and Police Officer I decided to volunteer and coordinate the cycling events. With all the tension between the police and the cycling community, this is a great opportunity for the N.Y.P.D to realize that cyclists are athletes and not the enemy. This will also show the cycling community how many local law enforcement, line up every week at the start lines of all the local races.
The games will run from 8/26 – 9/3. Opening Ceremonies will be at Prospect Park.
With the help of David Sommerville and his state of the art camera system the race venues are:
Road Race- Central Park ( with the approval of CRCA)
Criterium- Grant’s Tomb
Time trial- Floyd Bennett Field
Hill Climb- Alpine hill Climb
Velodrome- kissena
Sprints- 800 meter sprints in Coney Island.

Hey Jim
The reg date on the download form say’s May 20 2011? Can I still reg for the cycling events?
Great project. Thanks for sharing Jim.
Checked out the website and tried to reg. Was asked to list which police/law enforcement or fire department agency I was a member of. Looks like these races are for law enforcement and fire personel only.
Is that correct Jim?
Registration will be open until august, 15th. There will not be any cyclist hater, doughnut eating, fat cops participating in cycling venues. I feel the pain when a fellow cyclists is given a hard time by a cop. I have to say with all the nonsense that happened in central park, CRCA put it all aside and if it wasn’t for this great organization we would not be able to race in central park.
They are indeed for police and fire people only, but come out and watch! Should be different from the average race. A couple of 2nd tier euro pros should be there. Everyone will have an actual upper body.
I wish I can take part in Tour de France one day. It is my greatest dream. Many people would consider it as silly. I am sure you guys won’t. My idol is still Armstrong. It is really an unfortunate event he got into the ugly side of the business.
