Watts per Kilogram (a kilogram is 2.2 pounds).
Use this chart as an estimation of your abilities, they are rough estimates developed by determining the appropriate top and bottom “anchor points” for each scale. Also keep in mind some people are a Cat 2 for 20 minutes but a Cat 5 for 5 seconds. Others have Cat 2 power but Cat 5 endurance..”FT” you best effort for about 20-30 minutes for more explanation take a look at Training by the Numbers. Please refer to Cycling Peaks for more information on their excellent site. And special thanks to Andy Coggan for his great charts.

That is really useful to see al laid out like that, Now I can see why Im stuck in the 4s. Its hard to argue with the numbers!

You can train any of these “zones”, just not all of them at the same time…pick any adjacent two…
Weight reduction (body and machine), and sustainable power increased specific to the event…simple, non?
I have to agree with the first comment above: please credit the appropriate source (and/or be prepared to take this down when TrainingPeaks comes after you for copyright infringement).
I want to publically thank Alex Ostroy for responding so quickly to my prior request.
Thank Andrew,
We have made the changes as per your request, hope you like..
ft is 40k tt power
I would like to say that tables are well laid and the FT figures look good i think the 5sec figures are way too high. Ton Boonen weights 81kg and his sprint power is 1600watts which gives him on your list 19 which would only put him as a Cat1! I can push 900watts at the moment and weight 74kg which on your table means im just above untrained! considering i have won many cat1 sprints in europe im not so sure about that part of your table! the other figures look good as 350 threshold for me is 4.7 which is where i am competing on your table.
Hugh: you’re misquoting the article on Boonen’s sprint power. It doesn’t say he maxes out at 1600 watts; it says that he can generate 1600 watts at 110rpm. That’s an important distinction!
Boonen’s data aside, if Hugh’s winning Cat 1 sprints in Europe, with 900 watts at 74kgs, then the data does seem high. I’m heavier, around 85 kgs, and my 1300 watts, on occasion, puts me just above couch potato. Weird.

Someone point the Times to this blog, this demographic needs reworked…
you looked a lot different as a kid
calling a blogger narcissistic is like saying the knicks suck- it’s a pretty well known fact
Keep up the posts and good luck at this Hick Roubaix race. Looks awesome. King cakes for the post race.
what is narcissistic about CJ’s blog? you wanted to point out the times article, great, but calling CJ narcissistic?
referring to self in 3rd person?
3rd person + self deprecation = narcissism???
…So what are CJ’s goals for this upcoming season? well aside from the customary “lose 50 lbs,” I’d like to at least place in a CRCA B race. Last year my goal was to win a C race, which happened- but there
It’s been a good while since I’ve updated my narcissistic corner of the interweb, so here goes:
