I don’t have a whole lot to write this week, but I’m desperate to put up a new blog post to maybe just maybe get either the bunny ears picture or the ‘I just crashed after four seconds’ picture off the main page. I went after Schmalz for putting them up and he promptly threw Shen under the bus by saying that he chooses all the photos. Therefore I now have ‘Andy Shen’ written on my knuckles like Robert DeNiro in Cape Fear.
After surviving the Roller Racing on Tuesday (not often that one’s inability to compete in an event is shown from two angles and placed prominently on a website), I was able to put together a steady week of training. Road on Thursday AM, light bike on Friday and a fun steps workout with other members of Organic on Saturday. Twelve sets for the day. Just about an hour’s worth of work. The stars aligned on Sunday and I was able to get out for a solid team ride. Schmalz was kind enough to grace us with his presence, but I didn’t see a whole lot of him as myself and Jon Shannon dropped the chase group pretty quick. Basic fare at the Spoon (smacktalk and muffins). The ride back was fun. I don’t know what other teams do but our basic M.O. is to launch attack after attack on the way down 9W. I’ve spoken to other riders about this and I think, for me, it’s a side effect of having limited riding time. When one doesn’t have a lot of time on a bike any riding tends to be a hammerfest. This is a combination of a desire to ‘make up’ for a lack of training time and the plain old-fashioned fun of racing your friends. I’m sure that this practice as it relates to building race fitness is rather unsound (as unsound as Shen’s mind – take that, picture taker!) but regardless Sunday was a good time. Let’s hope the dry weather (who cares if it’s cold) sticks around – I write this as weather.com is carrying story after story about a coming ice storm for this Thursday.
In other news: ‘The Ride That Doesn’t Exist’ is not going to take place at Engineer’s Gate at 7:00 AM on January 1, 2008. It won’t be going to Bear Mountain and nobody should consider riding in it. That being said – hopefully I’ll have the chance to not take part in it.
Also, did anyone else around here watch ‘Mad Men’?….Good TV – NYC in 1960 – good stuff….Just thought I’d toss that out there.
That’s all…
Have a good week all.

You’re picking a fight with Mr. Sportsmanship? Is Schmalz’s dance card filled?
wait, Robert DeNiro had ‘Andy Shen’ written on his knuckles in Cape Fear?
i could’ve sworn it was Radio Raheem who had that on his knuckles
but ‘love’ and ‘hate’ but I have read that in the earlier drafts of ‘Do The Right Thing’ it did say ‘Andy Shen’.
Toss in the thumbs and I can work in ‘Dan Schmalz’…
I want a recount on the Sportsmanship Award
On the sportsmanship award is a farce! If only the voting public knew what I knew!
What days does your seamstress have off? I’ve got some zippers that need reinforcement.
another fun read…keep ’em coming
for the reading public
For those not familiar with the engineer’s gate who are curious where this ride will not leave from, where is this “engineer’s gate”?
About the drama on Sunday, including you fighting off a potential carjacker at the outset of the team ride. Floor pumps have multiple uses…
Humility is one of my greatest traits. Therefore I held off on telling the tale. Suffice to say that because of me Applebees everywhere are safe.

I’m starting to look forward to these blog entries. And not just because I’m your teammate.
And yes, “Mad Men” = best drama since “The Sopranos.” The main guy’s wife is nearly a dead-ringer for Grace Kelly. Reason enough to watch, but the terrific w
