It’s late January and I’m at a loss for words. Shocking to those who know me as my father used to say I was ‘vaccinated with a victrola needle’, but in the context of bike racing I have nothing to say. I’m not into cyclocross (like I need another wheeled sport to be obsessed about), early season races are boring. Tour Down Under? Like I want to read about a race in a warm climate or the Tour of Qatar – it’s Flat! It’s Windy! Let’s Ride!
It’s been cold for about, oh I don’t know, seven or eight years now (or so it seems) and I can’t wait for March and a bit of the warm weather to arrive. The good news is that days like today make the warm weather of Spring and Summer all the more better. It’s getting there that’s the hard part. Or so it seems.
(Note – it’s taken me about 20 minutes to get those two paragraphs out…Oh The Humanity!!)
I recommended to Schmalz that an interesting thread may be picture of the various ridiculous lengths that we go to train indoors. For example, the photo above is of my road bike wedged in my bathroom doorway, bath mat on the floor, printer box with macbook on top so that I can watch movies. When I pedal really hard the house shakes and stuff falls off the walls. It’s not pretty.
If anybody wants to snap a photo of their set up and send it my way feel free – Click Here, Schmalz said he’d put them up on a thread. Anything, anything to pass the time….
Have a good week everyone.
OK, not quite. But it looks like one. It’s the bike storage room in the basement. All cinderblocks and exposed pipes. We live in an uptight co-op, so I have do it on the sly, doing my rides in the very early morning. If they were to catch me training in t
febuary is always the hardest month for me to get through. then the beginning of spring is kinda tough as well, since it’s always teetering between balls ass cold and somewhat warm. April is the sweet spot.
If you need something to watch, I would get “The Wire” from netflix, which is, to me, the best series on TV right now. It makes “The Sopranos” seems like kindergarten.
