Log
It’s been a strange week regarding training. It was a great ride last Sunday with a combination of easy spinning combined with some action in the Rocket Ride which eventually finished up with coffee at Bunbury’s (Spoon South) with other members of Organic. It was a good 60+ mile Sunday.
That was it for the week until the 60-minute roller session that I just finished. Monday – Thursday was empty of all training but I chalk that up to a combination of night activities (Tuesday Football with the Alpha Male, Halloween Trick-or-Treating on Wednesday and a late meeting at work last night) and an injury that I somehow did to my neck on Tuesday.
I woke up with it a little sore on Tuesday AM and by the afternoon I couldn’t move it left or right. The pain wasn’t constant but I had a distinct loss of mobility. The good news is with Advil, heating pad and rest it seems to have gotten 90% better. Rather bothersome though. Hopefully that’s all behind me.
A constant point of discussion among cyclists was what to watch while inside during the winter. I think I’ve been able through trial and error to put together a nice little setup. I put the rollers in the bathroom doorway (kudos to those who can roll, roll, roll all night long without anything to the right or left) and set the Macbook up right in front with the long headphone jacked into it.
With iTunes you can pretty much catch any movie nowadays as well as some TV shows. For the next several weeks I downloaded the first season of “The West Wingâ€. Definitely a product of left-leaning Hollywood, TWW was a great show in its heyday. Aaron Sorkin was able to make public service seem so downright…noble. The characters were smart and in control and, yes, yes, I know it’s TV, it seemed to offer the public servants that we wish we had. Rather than the public service we see splashed on the front pages abusing their power and getting involved in petty squabbles, the characters on the show believed in their ability to effect a positive change through their jobs. This is a nice thing to be exposed to in early November when getting on the rollers (especially on a Friday night while the kids are sleeping) is a difficult thing to do.
This week I’ll be picking up the Powertap. That is goal one of the three goals I’ve set for this winter.
– Get and learn how to employ a powermeter
– Go for a decent bike fit (1-800-Mike Sherry – please wait by the phones)
– Get on the bike (whether inside or out) at least 5 days a week (plus various other crosstraining)
We’re lucky men and women to have the opportunity for pursuits such as these.
What I’ve been listening to lately:
My wife suggested I use the rollers on the balcony (we are on the 14th floor). Your bathroom sounds a little safer. Plus added proximity to the toilet.
I know you’ll meet your goals. Look forward to reading your power numbers, Hammer man.
rollers are fun…
