SECOND SAKONNET RIDER TURNS PROFESSIONAL
New York, NY (October 11th, 2006)
Sakonnet Rider Turns Professional – Durango, CO (October 11th)
Nineteen year old Sakonnet rider Caleb Fairly has signed a contract with the new VMG Continental Professional Team. It was a string of strong results with Sakonnet including the Fitchburg Longsjo Stage Race (10th Place in the Criterium and 11th Place in the Circuit Race), U23 Nationals (10th Place in the Road Race and 7th Place in the Criterium) and strong rides in Europe with the U23 National Team that sealed the deal for Caleb.
The new VMG program is a merger of this years VMG Professional team and the U23 National Team. Their program for 2007 is a combination of U.S NRC events and continental racing in Europe with a base in Belgium. “We are so very excited for Caleb and we wish him all the best†said Sakonnet Director Basil Moutsopoulos. “It shows that our program is working when we have two riders in one season making the jump to the paid ranks. First Andy Guptill goes to Target Training and now Caleb follows in his footsteps with VMG. Granted we’ll have to replace Caleb which will be hard to do but graduating him is a high class problem to have†commented Moutsopoulos.
The New York City based CRCA/Sakonnet Technology U25 Cycling Team focus’ on supporting top level young amateurs by taking them to national caliber events throughout the season so that they can have the opportunity to race against the country’s best riders.
