We asked Andrew Crooks of NYC Velo for a cyclocross build, a nice but still reasonable bike. CX bikes are often second or third bikes, and they’re destined for a certain amount of abuse. We were looking for something that would be fun to ride and race, but not be babied like a piece of jewelry. Here’s what he came up with, as well as some more economical options.
Just had my crosser built by Andrew and the gang. They’re great guys and are easy to work with. Too bad they can’t build me some legs too.
if you’re going to do more than a few races a year, get a set of tubular cross wheels/tires. i was astonished at how much of a difference they made after 4 years of racing CX on clinchers. you don’t even need expensive wheels, just anything you can stick a tire to!
