Got milk?

Phones, keyboards and Intellivision consoles (I write all my posts in a hacked version of Bank Street Writer) have been abuzz with the news from the North. There are results to disseminate, congratulations to be delivered and I’ve got to finish my game of B-17 Bomber.

At the Tour of the Battenkill in Cambridge, NY Bruce Bird of the Wheels of Bloor won the men’s Pro/cat 1 race. Veronique Fortin won the women’s pro/1/2 race. Ben Foltz of Round Here Racing won the men’s cat 2 race.

In the world of cat 3, David Anthony of BH/Comedy Central hits for three quarters of the cycle by winning the cat 3 pink race, after previously winning as a cat 5 and cat 4. Moritz Steiner of Team Montclair Bikery won the cat 3 yellow race. Kerrin Strevell of Farm Team Elite Women’s Cycling won the women’s cat 3 race.

In the cat 4 world, Ben Turrell of FGX Racing won the cat 4 white race. Jayson Jacobs of W&D RACING/NYC VELO won the cat 4 green race. Lisa Kennish of CRCA/Asphalt Green Cycling Team won the women’s cat 4 blue race.

Meanwhile, in the cat 5 races, Bruce of Fecheyr-Lippens of siggi’s/nyvelocity won the cat 5 u35 pink race. Jamisen Ogg of Cause & Effect won the cat 5 u35 yellow race. Simon Oddy of Breakaway Courier won the cat 5 35+ green race. Mark Branle of the CRCA won the cat 5 35+ pink race.

In the realm of the masters, Colin Sandberg of Team GPOA edged out Gregg Galletta of BH/Comedy Central to win the master 30+ race.

Full results are here. A CRCA-centric recap is here.

And that’s only the beginning of the weekend’s glories. At the Spring Series on Saturday, Brian Breach of Mengoni won the pro/1/2/3 race. Jorge Cordero won the cat 3/4 race. James Joseph won the masters race. Jacob Hashimoto won the cat 5 race. No Sunday results yet. Tweeted Saturday results are here. Photos are here.

Finally, at the Bethel of the North (say it out loud), Willie Payton won the overall in the pro/1/2/3 series. Hammean Walker of the Major Taylor Iron Racing Team won the cat 3/4 overall. Gary Steinberg of Brauer – Mick Management won the masters 45+ overall. Becca Schepps of Innervation racing, Stan’s No Tubes Women’s won the women’s overall. Operación Puerto veteran that ASO?/UCI? kicked out of the Pro peloton rides clean… Really?

Yanis Biopace

Ewwww, did Olsen get dirt in his mouthpiece?

You know, 9 out of 10 dentists recommend not putting dirt in one’s mouthpiece.

Julien Tigweld

why be douchey about someone winning local races? apples and oranges.

anyone who can win a bike race (well, clean) deserves some respect.

Dino Saddlebag

2 Champ Sys riders finished. Can’t keep all my Champion Systems straight. Still — what about everybody else? Does putting Half-n-Half in your tires work or not?

Boost

Ok people fess up, who uses EPO BOOST? I saw a write up of it in Bicycling Magazine that read like and informercial. Is this stuff any good?

Evelyn Wood

If you actually read the results you would see that 2 riders on the Champ Sys team finished the race. Also, the Pro’s did a different course then the Saturday race so they could have had worse conditions. Next year, I think you should drive all the way up there for your Cat 5 over 40 race and run just normal clinchers. That should do the job.

Vincent Ferrule

I think this race was less of a reality check than you think it was. Most of the guys who raced there (referring to the Pro field on Sat and Sun)have faced each other many times on many different courses. Some of those guys are especially good at the long hilly road races like J. Anthony or F. Mancebo, etc. Others are crit specialists who would ride all over these guys on a different weekend, i.e. Adam Myerson (flatted out). Some guys peak for this while others peak for events in coming weeks. It’s all relative. Sometimes National Champions lose in local training races.

@SE — how the hell do you pronounce it??? I got the Bruce part but the rest is like a bunch of vowels in a blender.

Chabanov

You see that Dan C was riding for Champion System/NoTubes. Nice to see a team giving riders the opportunity to shine in races that their team wasnt invited to.

Needmore Watts

Raced on 404’s converted to tubeless and will again when he wins the Cat 2’s next year.

mehi

I see that you mention your team mates 2nd place in the Mastes, but not my team mates 2nd place to DA.

Flounder

Some guys puff their chests after winning training races like CRCA, Spring Series, FBF, Trooper Brinkoff, and then they go do a real race like Bkill and they’re nothing. Reality check boys!

Anna Lepsis

Mancebo proves it’s what’s in your heart, not in your tubes, that wins races. As for what’s in your tubes … results, bro.

Dino Saddlebag

I notice from the elite results that no one from Stan’s NoTubes or Champion System/NoTubes finished the elite race. They didn’t all flat did they? Curious to hear how the Stan’s system fared this weekend. On the Competitive Cyclist blog they gave a shout-out to Vittoria and claimed they were the only team not to suffer a flat in the Sunday race. Usually the ‘what tires should I run at Battenkill?’ discussion is very freddy. Sounds like for the pro race it was relevant. Also: why more flats Sunday? Because they rode harder and longer or was there something different about the condition of the course?

Re: Bkill Observation

Hey Mr Bkill Observation I guess the reality check here is if I dont have 100+ bucks + hotel or transportation costs to go to the toughest race then I am wasting my time doing local races and getting placings and should give up the sport?

Damien Flange

Cat 2s how about local nice guy Todd M formerly of Kissena. He is also in his mid to late 30s now… Great job and result for him.

Also, NJ Dan finished in the main group for Champs Sys in the Pro Race Sunday.

tooth decay

But why is it that animals don’t have to see dentists, or get fillings or root canals or teeth pulled?

Elwood Blues

AIGLE, Switzerland (AP) Russian cyclist Denis Galimzyanov was suspended Monday after testing positive for a banned blood booster, putting at risk his chances of riding in the London Olympics.

Olympics

what is the point of the Olympics? Most of the countries have doping programs, especially the US.

Michele Crank

The point of the Olympics is making money. The IOC is neither a Democratic institution nor a non-profit. Plenty of people getting rich inside the IOC.

If you think the UCI is rotten, then the IOC does it one better. Only the IOC has the money and power to cover up their sins.

Michele Crank

Does Galimzyanov get the Fu Yu Li treatment or the Contador treatment?

Anyone remember Fu Yu Li? Vanished from the Pro peloton for a clenbuterol positive just about the same week of the announcement never to return. We all know Contador got the royal treatment.

Frederico Brifter

Fu Yu got a big Fu Yu from the Establishment. A bit player, he was diposable.

Contador got the Contapardon, big time player, millions of $ involved.

That’s no surprise.

Noa Supple

if gfny is still a worlds masters qualifier, it’s about friggin’ time. doping so rampant at the top of u.s. masters racing it’s laughable. pathetic, really. jacked up on the good stuff for what, bragging rights and a free inner tube prime?

Augmented

A new line of bullshit to soon hit the world of cycling an already smelly sport, is Augmented Reality. Oakley and Google coming up with the Boo-shit.
