Roller Race with Floyd Landis

It has a name!

The party is TONIGHT!! The Chipin has ended, so we’ll see you there tonight.

Update November 28: The party is this Thursday! Here’s a link to the roller racing rules, from Dave Perry’s very cool site. If you’ve never raced or attended one of these before, there’s typically seeding heats followed by elimination heats. Losers of the elimination heats will get a second chance (repechage), then it’s on to semis and finals. Once again, if you use the Chipin widget below there’s a $5 discount. See you Thursday.

Update November 17: if you donate $5, we’ll send you a PDF of the 18" x 24" high resolution version of the event poster. You can then print it out and admire it on your wall.

More details! The races will be on Thursday, December 1 at the Parkside Lounge on 317 East Houston Street. Doors open at 7, races begin at 7:30.

Floyd Landis is coming to town December 1st and we’re going to have a roller race! All profits will go to the CRCA Junior Development Program. We’re doing this Chipin to make life easier for us on the day of the race. Tickets are $20 here, $25 day of race, chip in below and we’ll have your name on the guest list. Feel free to donate more to the program if you wish!

“I don’t understand the mentality that people think (woman’s cycling) is a joke.”

then,

“I started cycling when I was 25 and racing at 26 just for fun. I wasn’t an athlete before, so it was a steep learning curve. One thing happened and another thing happened and then I found myself racing in Europe.”

I think she answered her own conundrum

Cece Chainsuck

She was always a “model” first who was kind of fast on a bike. She recieved way more press than she deserved mainly because she is hot. She kind of took the path of many pro surfer women who make most of there money on print adds and clothing endorsements while never really doing much in competition.

gloria steinem

because riding around in central park in circles pretending to race is not a joke, but a woman racing a bike in europe–and getting paid to do so–is? riiiiiight……

Cece Chainsuck

Say what you want, Liz never produced any results while being a “Pro” yet she had much more press than some other female racers that were much more successful in races. Marketing…

Maxime Chamois

Totallly, a beautiful woman without UCI points — that’s the WORST! like, if I saw Liz Hatch in a bar, and she started to whisper sweet nothings to me, I’d be like, ‘Whooooahh Baby. Slow your roll! I’d like to see a top 20 at Nature Valley or at least the Sea Otter Classic before I let you touch this carbon fiber!”

Victor Seattube

Do you think there is enough interest to do this on a frequent basis if it were to be weekly, bi weekly, or monthly until park races start again?

Sander Tubie

equals the Anna Kornokova of cycling. In her recent Pez pictures, she has a forehead that rivals Lester Holt.

If I was a parent of a CRCA junior rider, I’d be disgusted with this fundraiser.

http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/landis-to-appeal-hacking-sentence

“On November 10 a French court handed down a 12-month suspended sentence to Floyd Landis on the charge he hacked into a computer at the French Chatenay-Malabry laboratory (LNDD). According to his lawyer, Landis was given the option of appealing, but at the time he hadn’t decided what was the best course of action.

“I have to take a few days to reflect as I don’t want to add to my anxiety a second time,” Landis told Cyclingnews last week.

However, after some time to reflect Landis has decided to appeal. When asked what was next after filing his appeal he succinctly replied, “I don’t know.”

When further asked if he would travel to France and face the charges with his attorneys he replied, “I’m considering it.”

The former pro has mentioned in the past he doesn’t have the funds available for travel. Also, he has some reservations about returning to France, a country that does not have fond memories of his 2006 Tour de France performance.

“My concern about traveling to France is that they may not allow me to return home,” said Landis suggesting that the French authorities might like to see him behind bars.

Something else that Landis has reconsidered is racing in the masters category. Initially he wanted to be a competitive on the bike again, but instead he’s focused on his plan of joining NASCAR. In the short term he will be attending a fundraiser December 1st in New York that is raising money for a local junior development racing team.

Wout Bearing

The rumor going around is that due to the negative feedback Floyd Landis is generating he is being replaced. Joe Papp will be hosting in his place.

Ken Harris

I’m finding your proposition intriguing and disturbing.

“If I was a parent of a CRCA junior rider, I’d be disgusted with this fundraiser.”

Disturbing because of it’s lack of subjunctive, and intriguing because you appear to suggest that the feeling of disgust can hypothetical. I don’t think it can be. I think it is or it isn’t.

I believe what you mean to say is that you’d feel your self righteousness would be justified if you were a parent who had a kid who was a CRCA junior, which is not very interesting. If you’re just feeling a need to be self righteous, maybe you should wait on having the kid until you resolve that.

What kind of cyclist would you prefer for the event? I certainly prefer a former liar to a current liar. Not to suggest that these are the only options, but they are certainly the ones which have the largest draws.

Crank Puller

don’t like Floyd Landis party? then don’t come to Floyd Landis party!!!

still donate to the juniors either way, because the evening is really for them…

Samuel Lube

Landis won the Tour, if only for a while. Heck, he is probably a good lesson for kids since his lying and cheating hasn’t worked out so well for him.

Captain High Horse

I said disgusted because Floyd Landis is a liar and a fraud. His name shouldn’t even be mentioned in connection with developing junior cycling. It’s like having Michael Vick be a spokesman for the ASPCA. Like Hamilton, he stole–yes, stole–a mountain of money (something like a million or so dollars) from people who contributed to his defense because he, oh that’s right, lied about his doping and claimed innocence. Really, what kind of person does that?

I already donate directly to organizations helping develop youth cycling, so none of this conversation really matters…

Who to attract for a youth cycling fundraiser at a roller race? Great question, and if you’re implying that doping is really that rampant even amongst pro pack fodder, i.e. it’s a 50/50 chance they’re on something, then frankly I’d rather see a band and enjoy the spectacle of locals going up on the rollers to have some fun. Easy choice there.

Suggestion: post a link where one can donate 100% of their cash directly to CRCA junior development. Would be good to have that option to donate vs. relying on “100% of profits” being donated in connection with this event.

Now if you’ll excuse me I have to go self righteously prepare dinner. Thank you.

Andy Shen

Floyd has said he intends on repaying some of the donors, but not necessarily ones that knew he was guilty but had a vested interest in having him fight his conviction:

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/otl/news/story?id=5652787

We didn’t set out to make a fund raiser for the juniors with Floyd as the guest. He agreed to come to a roller party, he gave us a date when he’s in town, and we decided to do it. With the exception of one fundraiser for Fernando Cuevas we’ve done these events for the juniors, so we asked the CRCA board if they were ok with the association. They gave their blessing and here we are.

CORRECTION: I remembered wrong, I only asked Ken’s approval, not the CRCA board.

Ken Harris

Seeing how Landis lost wife, kid, and best friend, I see him more as a Lyle Alzado, not Micheal Vick. Vick’s crimes were simply crimes, they had little to do with his sport. Floyd, btw, seems to be pretty good with dogs. No PR person is suggesting Landis do this, he just is as far as I know. Andy can correct me. Furthermore, this is developing money for juniors, not developing juniors. If all junior cyclists had to keep ten feet away from assholes, liars, and cheats at all times, there would be no junior cyclists. Case in point (first item only).

Andy Shen

Yeah, no PR person suggested Floyd do this, and we’re not paying him a cent, though I’ll probably buy him a beer.

bike

Do I have to use a fixed gear bike or can I use one with electronic shifting?

Also what is the dosage recommended for Testostorone, would patches suffice or do I have to inject the stuff? Can someone ask Floyd?

Quentin Internal Routing

will chade o’gray be there? I hope FFFloyd is buying my rounds for up to $35 worth of BKLNbeers…or he can sign on where to use and how much how often to cycle…etc…please interview him when he is gedrunked!!!

bruvvah

3 guys go into a bar…I want to be cancer and then next tourdeefranceeramericancer to win!!!!!!
no, says lancer, there can only be one, and that is me…
the sport certainly has jumped the shark after lancer…
there can be no other, who really is going to take so much shite that you gets cancer in the first place, then survive, then go on to win 7 times in a row!!!!!
he owns sram, shimano, and twitter…
the lancer makes the dude wanna shoot hisself…
lancer is so evil…
but lets have a roller race with fffloyd in the name of the father and the last mohicannibal!! for juniors…

right???
wtf???

man i am gonna have a head ache in the morning…

Everybody likes to talk opinion however here are facts from my lifetime of being in the cycling industry, working with Pro level teams, and knowing Floyd. The US population in many cases has a different less experienced view of our sport and many do not even know these simple facts:
*Doping is very common practice within the highest level of the sport it will continue for the foreseeable future. Everybody that wins the TDF dopes.
*Betting on cycling is very common practice in Europe and Asia and many races are fixed.
*competing riders sometimes are actually partners who help one another win certain races because of financial bonuses put in place by sponsors, they then sometimes share the reward
*doping test results can be bought and this is common practice in Europe
*Last year Lance sent a message to Floyd to go ahead and tell the truth but did not expect him to actually do it, Lance brought it on himself. Floyd kept quiet for years until Lance made one to many smart ass comments.
*Floyd Landis is a great guy who was placed in a tough spot. By the time Floyd was 29 he had been around the world, won most major races, and made more money than most the world’s population could ever imagine.

Here is a few phrases that are not always true but could help some read between the lines a bit better:
compete for race entry = amount of revenue race organizer will gain from placing team

1st test positive for PED’s , second clean = rider did not have large enough bribe in place, rider ponied up

never tested positive = heavily funded

sat on competitors wheel till he won at final sprint = pre-race agreement between two competing riders to allow won to receive sponsor bonus which is then shared between the “competitors”

Team Physiologist = Director of beating the test

sponsor supplied back-up bikes = drug fund

not just say’n, I know.

Wout Bearing

No need to register. Floyd has hacked into your computer, registered for you and made a large donation from your account.

Ty

Do the owners of Cache Cache have a place in New York? Things could get tense if there’s another ‘tip off’…

Andy Shen

In case you’re wondering, we’re not paying Floyd or flying him in. The expenses will be getting Dave Perry’s rollers, registering the race with USA Cycling, renting an ascot for Schmalz, etc.

Rip Toff

Will our fees also go towards a blood test for Floyd? I’m sure that a hole is still cheating…

Probably not even gonna be Landis, but really Joe Papp after his new Witness Relocation plastic surgery designed to make him look like Floyd.

Cece Chainsuck

Special guests will be the chicken and the cobra. they wont pay these guys anything, but will plaster their mugs all over the flyer to get people to spend money … Floyd is no better or worse than these guys.

Baptiste Ceramic

I’m very dissapointed with the lack of cleverness with these posts. Making doping jokes because Floyd is the one of the most famous dopers? Really? “Might as well invite Tyler too” – Oh the wit!!! How did you ever get so clever to make the connection and then write these jokes?! “is he going to pay us back?” -Oh, I am holding my belly!! So, so funny! If you were stupid enough to give him money beacause you though that he was innocent, you should have spent that money on a book of some kind to boost your deductive reasoning skills. To Captain High Horse – you might as well call the entire peloton during the floyd years Liars and Frauds – the only difference is he came clean – therefore he’s no longer a liar and fraud…

Verrochio Cable

SUX, that we have to have FFFloyd at a roller race in some skanky bar to raise money for “juniors”…isnt it ironic, dontcha think?

Sacha Bearing

Like all the other riders we worship are clean. 99.9% of us could not be on a pro tour team no matter how much we juiced. Give the man some respect.

Adrien Biopace

It wasn’t the ‘all pro’s dope’ thing, but the absolutely pathetic nature of the FFF that caused me to loose total respect for Floyd. I would make the trip down if I could meet someone like Davis Phinney, though.

Giorgio Cage

“now johnny, this money is to help you buy some new tires for your bike. it came from the crca, who held a fundraiser for you in a local bar, and featured a guest appearance by a famous pro cyclist who was busted for doping in the tour de france and whose life has been ruined throug hhis web of lies and deceit. now you go out there and ride your heart out young man!”

“gee, thanks dad!”

West Coast Reader

Will there ham snacks in honor of Toto? Say it is so, or make it so.

So what’s the goal amount for your new … I mean the Jr.’s program?

Should get Floyd to show up in his NASCAR get up, a couple NASCAR groupies there should be plenty in that skanky bar.

The Jr.’s could care less where the money came from, it could be from proceeds of the skanks side jobs and as long as the money was free of bodily fluids they’d be happy. Who of you’s ever tracked the money you got when you were a kid?

Just checked my sched-ule, I’m out of town again… but then again I’m always out of TOWN!

Ron Mexico Fan

Rumor has it that Floyd will decline suspension of the French jail sentence and attend the roller races via Webex.
This Sunday’s Turkey Race has more validity than this trial.

Rosso O-Ring

I suspect that the French authorities will now have a heightened interest in roller races in NYC bars. We must try to keep this activity as clandestine as possible.

Thibault Threadlock

can FFFloyd be the new Steve O???
ya know since its for juniors and all?
and when can we start having benefitz with/for the Ladies racers in the house? the ones legal to drink at least??? trix and shite?
LMFAO

The Pro_ness

I predict Dan Chabanov, Two Time Red Hook Crit Winner, and Master of Alleycats will win. He’s better than Floyd.

Kamil T. O'malley

eh? wassamatta fayou? you-a go-a chanjadda tha stripe right-a siddauppa? imma confuzionah???

boh! e basta!

Sander Biopace

Are all the prizes going to racers or do you plan on a raffle as well? I’ll predict either Chabanov or a solid sprinter like Gavin Robertson to win.
