It has arrived! The beginning of the racing season in New York. There are four races in the immediate area that offer racers the opportunity to display the gains made while away at sleepover bike camp in warm locales such as Arizona, California or Libya (my coach says fleeing is the new tabata), or to conversely show that they have been only riding in their basement for 45 minutes at a time for a few days a week. Personally, I’d prefer to share a fondue pot with the latter, but I have a soft spot for fondue.
Saturday sees the beginning of the CRCA season in Central Park.
Saturday also has the beginning of the 2011 Branchbrook Park Spring Training Series.
Sunday has the beginning of the Spring Series in Central Park (be sure to sign up for the entire series and receive a bonus worth a free podium placing —you can’t win the Spring Series without it!).
Sunday also has the beginning of the 2011 Outdoor Sport Center Bethel Spring Series – Ronde de Bethel in Bethel CT.

NYPD Mistakes First CRCA Race for Critical Mass
The New York Police Department was surprised by the new staging area and route of this month’s critical mass, but quickly gained control with helicoptor support and scooters. Police commisioner Ray Kelly commented, “We were initially confused by the new tactics of sending lead scout riders out of the pack only to chase them down. Of course, there were no tactics in the second and third groups of riders.” Kelly further suggested that it appeared that many of the protesters were on drugs possibly thinking it was Halloween as they were dressed up like they were in the Tour de France.
how is the girl who crashed?
She wasnt looking good, please if you know let us know, thats not the way you want to start you season….
Get better soon!!
She was in a lot of pain, and was pretty freaked out, when she first went down. hell, my teammate almost ran over her neck. The pain was mostly coming from her right knee. By the time the EMTs put her on a back board she was smiling and joking…still in pain but she told me she was going to be fine. Let’s hope she is right.
