Welcome to the Tue, 08/19/2010 – 02:10 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?
Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.
Last race of the season at Rockleigh tonight.
Weather could not be nicer and there will be special premes and schwaag tonight for top finishers of tonight’s race and the overall series! And the famous Rockleigh BBQ will be fired up for serving burgers and dogs for all you non-vegans!! 1,2,3 race at 6pm, 4,5 race at 7pm.
Hope to see you all there!!!
What are the standings?
I know we’ve hashed this before, but I would like to rehash it now. Why do floyd and rockleigh end so early in the year? is it just amount of daylight?
Yup, it’s daylight.
fair enough. one more question. where were all the mosquitoes this year at floyd? i don’t remember ever being this bite-free. lack of rain?
We need more September/October races!!
I can’t take the withdrawal!!!
Nooooooo!!!!
Charlie,
You’re probably burnt out be we need more….!
Do I hear a fall series?!
Charlieeeeeeeeeeeeee!
It’s true. September and October are perfect weather here, it’s silly our season more or less ends in August before it starts to cool down.
Cat 1/2/3
Greg Olsen, Euri Madera, Godfrey Polydore, Zach Koop and Jahon Landino
Cat 4/5
Richard Quezada, David Correia, Michael Hughes,Pedro Depena, Brendan Pearce
Overall winners will be decided tonight as neither group is clinched.
Its called cyclocross
good luck Greg
1) shortening daylight
2) burnout. very few people who have been racing since march are eager to extend the season
AND I WANT MORE!!!!!!
Cross is OK but it’s not a road race!
Gimbels/Rocket don’t do it for me..
Jarne, you are too Stiff if you’re burned out of something you do for the joy of it. I bet if races did take place in Oct-Nov, racers would come. CRCA used to have them and they were fun, not as uptight as mid-season.
I’m with my fellow Stiff. After worshiping at the altar of bike racing since early March, I’m fried by the whole training/racing/self loathing regimen by this time of year, and I’ve forgotten what brownies, hard alcohol, and sleeping in are like. Gimbels and Rocket Ride are a decent enough substitute, though I would be up for 1 or 2 races later in the year so I don’t become a complete slob.
Burnout is more mental than physical.
My coach has me doing my second peak in mid-November, just in time for Beaujolais season
base camp
a change is as good as a rest…maybe too much of the same circuit/competitors…move to something different, but complementary:
XC running
XC skiing
rowing
mtn biking/ CCX
duathlon (Oct3rd in Central Park, but maybe too close to home and terrain…)
Go to Tour of Tucson in November
Southern Hemisphere
its not that complicated.
Mengoni/maltese this weekend, Chris Thater next, GMSR after that, then Bear, then CRCA or NJ crit or New Hampshire crit that next weekend, then Boston crit, then Prospect first week of October then Jamestown on Columbus Day. THEN cross!
Month of December off, Jan and Feb get thin again and see you first weekend in March!!
