Off-Topic for 07/21/2009 – 02:10

Welcome to the Tue, 07/21/2009 – 02:10 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?

Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

All,

As of now tonight’s FBF race is still on. At approximately 4:30PM an update will be posted on https://www.nyvelocity.com as to the status of the race.

Cancellation of the race can only be done after I arrive at FBF and inspect the course.

Charlie,

You’ve gotta get a Twitter account, if for no other reason than to give us the go/no go for races. This website, though we love it, isn’t the proper place to make those announcements.

Even if you only have a regular cell phone, its easy to send a short text to 40404 (Twitter) and say “race is on” or “race cancelled”.

With the recent Floyd Bennett race cancellations due
to the flooding and more rain in the forecast
tomorrow, I have decided to set twitter feed just to
report if the race is a go or not, so you can take
the guess work out of your decision weather to leave
work early and make the track down Flatbush ave. if
you set it up to receive the update on your phone you
don’t need to be at your computer to find out the
statues, as soon as I get the word from Charlie I’ll
post it up.
the twitter name is nyracereport.

Best,
Henoch

Aaron grew the beard to look like General Grant for Grant’s Tomb. Glad thing those banner-thingies hang around for awhile.

Back to my cave.

Dude, not everybody uses twitter. Posting there makes a lot of sense, should probably be done and is very convenient for a lotta folks, but the off topic section of nyvelocity is a perfectly ‘proper place’ for this info. (As well.)

FBF official race cancellation song, “Oops, I did it again.”

Sing with me now, as we hoist yet another pint of mead in honor of the race that never was…but lives on in our memory, like Tugboat.

This isn’t funny anymore.

Somebody is gonna pay for ruining my Tuesday.

I took it out on my wife last time, and my kids have been pretty darn good today, so if I went downstairs and kicked them both, they probably wouldn’t understand why.

I’d blast Charlie, since it was his decision, but we love Charlie, so that just doesn’t feel right.

That leaves just one person……

Where’s Schmalz?

FBF cancelled, just talked to Charlie. The course is underwater. That’s a re-post to taunt you…

Using Twitter to get the message out is a great idea! One doesn’t need to be a dedicated Twitter User to appreciate the fact that Henoch can send a text message to Twitter and it will be broadcast to everyone who “follows” his @nyracereport. The message is broadcast via email, sms, or simply by visiting the page if you choose not to receive updates. Personally, I am choosing to get a text message to let me know the status of the race and whether or not I can start getting ready to leave work early.

If you prefer the old way, call your cycling buds before putting on the chammy cream. If he answers leave the cream in the jar.

I sent an email to the Saxo-B. team wishing Voigt all the best. I have the feeling that quite a lot of riders share the same positive sentiment about what he stands for. A good number of e-mails from New Yorkers might persuade him to come hang in NYC and do some crazy stuff with Schmaltz – rollers, beer, that kind of thang, no?
Of course, Lance is still a dick.
