Welcome to the Tue, 06/01/2009 – 02:10 edition of Off Topic! You are looking at the next step in the evolution of VCN, the Off-Topic page. Have you ever been frustrated because you had a burning desire to call someone a sandbagger and could only hope to be timely by posting your comment to a photo gallery page or on a page describing a charity ride?
Well, your prayers have been answered! You can post your comment from the home page and it magically comes to rest here with the other orphans from the land of Misfit Comments. The page gets refreshed every day, but not to worry! Each day’s page will be archived and treasured, so you can look back on past pages with pride, shame or disgust-depending on how the day’s conversation went. So post away! We’ve got an internet to fill up.

thanks for posting those week in and out…
denny men chav!
what’s the best (safest) way to ride from manhattan to fbf for the tuesday races?
A few weeks ago I asked the same question and got this advice – if you’re not a cat 5, ride from Manhattan to Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn no later than 6p. Big group meets there to ride together to FBF.
Safe is relative…riding Flatbush en masse was more entertaining than safe.
what’s the cat 5 clause? do they start earlier and have to get to fbf ahead of time (i ask b/c i am a cat 5). thx.
is there a cat 5 field at FBF? that sounds scary.
how long of a ride is it from army plaza?
I think the Cat 5’s go at 18:30 and the other cats go at 19:00. I’d say it takes about 35 minutes or so from Grand Army if you’re comfortable in traffic. If not it will probably take you 2 days and a change of shorts.

Maybe the zipper broke on his big belly.
for fbf do you just register out there (no pre reg)?
FBF register there. That is all.
don’t leave with the group from GAP if you are a cat5, you won’t make it in time to register, the group doesn’t have cat5s in it generally, so are not worried about making it by 630 START. you can certainly make it in a half hour but not riding at the comfortable group pace. and yes, rush hour on flatbush sucks.
thanks a ton. any alternative route suggestions would be appreciated.
i’m a cat5 and will leave upper east side, ride across manhattan bridge and up flatbush if any other cat 5’s wanna meet along the way post here, and no, it’s not scary, just not that big a field, and really fun
no real good alternate routes, you can ride down bedford, but it will take longer, or you can take subway to the beach and ride along the water, less riding, but long travel time, pain in the ass.
unless you already live in BK, why go to all the trouble? Get a track bike and race Kissena, Wed or Thur…and Rockleigh is always better if you can get to it easily.
