There are opportunities for racing both near and far, in places both familiar and completely unknown. In fact, there are so many racing opportunities that you’d think that there is a fountain that gushes forth with an endless stream of lycra clad racers somewhere; and did you know that fountains produces ice dancers in the winter? It’s a little known fact, but completely true.
On Saturday, you can prove to the world exactly how fast you can climb at the CRCA Alpine Hill Climb. Or you can try a new course out at FBF at the 2009 Criterium New York. If you want to race in stages all weekend, there’s the Tour de Syracuse. And if you are kinda pro, you can race the Bank of America Wilmington Grand Prix.
Sunday has the Tour de Parc Criterium in Wantagh, LI. If you like races that include the initials “n”, “r” and “c” in their names, you can do the BikeJam/Kelly Cup NRC event in Baltimore, MD. You can also do the Jersey Shore Time Trial at the Island Beach State Park in NJ. Or if you’re feeling dirty, there’s a H2H race at Tymor Park in Lagrangeville, NJ.
And if you go to Wilmington or Baltimore, say hi to Mike Creed; he’ll be there. But don’t tell him which state he’s in, I have him convinced he’s in Michigan.

Has anyone sensed a collective flagging of enthusiasm for racing this season? Does anyone else miss the sense of anticipation, the clipped, nervous chatter before races and the sad smiles of mixed regret and relief afterwards?
In seasons past, these Friday/Monday free-for-alls were much more lively and people were much more interested and animated about what was about to happen/had happened. It seems this season, apathy has set in, or perhaps the repetitiveness of the conversation has turned away all but the hopelessly bored.
I remember NYVC pre-schmalz, pre-hate, with the faux-grafitti banner and the long list of links, when Mike Jones was SoPro, when we still TT’ed in the park, when each weekend of racing was charged with energy and anticipation, even if it was only defiant and anonymous trash-talking.
Where has that all gone?

I thought my enthusiasm had just decreased (0 races this year compared to about 15 this time last). But, it seems like overall attendance is down as is entusiasm. Maybe now that Lance is back, it will re-kindle my flame – not.

Major Taylor was never called a sandbagger. It was much worse.
Blacks were banned from League of American Wheelmen and they tried to keep Taylor from racing.
Many would not race against him.
Major Taylor lived in Worcester, MA when he was racing. WorcesterVelocity.com had yet to be built into VelocityNation.com

Anyone know what the Tymor course is like? Rocky or Smooth?
Lots of climbing. Not very techincal compared to some of the other courses…with the rain it will be a bruiser of a course.
Tymor is a nice mix of smooth fast bermy stuff through the woods, steep climbs, and rocky single track. The rocky single track is not too technical by local standards. Descents are as fast as you dare.

Nope, I was a spectator. I probably saw more than the guys in the race. I am not saying Scot doesn’t have himself to blame, He always works too much. I am sure that Global was working hard for Alan and that helped the break stick. I guess I am just old school and lets face it, even schmalz got a win that way.
It’s not like Alan is known to be a hanger on.

Any results for Tour of Cuse Cat3?
Just to reiterate what was posted earlier, Scot W. was doing the lion’s share of the work, but to say Alan Buday was not contributing is inaccurate.
I watched the race closely, I believe I saw Alan pull thru frequently, and when he did he certainly appeared to be applying himself. I’ve raced with both guys often enough that I’m pretty certain neither is a slacker and they both value the podium over a pack finish. They were never so far gone that staying away was a given, so I’d be shocked if there was any glass-cranking on Alan Buday’s part and I’m doubtful Scot W. has ever even heard the term.

It is Globals tactic to sit on breaks and use there numbers to keep the group together or get a numerical advantage into a break. The guy’s on that team who will actually do work are BM and GS,(initials only) I know many who have been chased down only to have a rider from said team just sit on them and never even think of pulling through because they are always “riding for someone else”. Not saying its wrong, alls far in war and bike racing but like it/admit it or not it is there team tactic. In all honesty it works well for them but makes for uneventfull racing for all others in the race. Some like to race while others like the tactics, tomato/tomAto?
I was not there and this is “IMO” but if I had to guess, Mr. Wilingham drove that break you are talking about.
When they have a guy leading a points series the tactics really aren’t all that complicated.

The number of guys getting pissed at the Sanchez dude and the Global Locate riders for not pulling through was really pathetic.
Rule #1 of racing is to pay attention. (Pssst, they had guys in the break)
Then you have 2 or 3 guys spend most of the race trying to bridge while nobody else wants to pull through because they are too confused why Gary Steinberg is not chasing and also can’t figure out how to get around him.
The coup de gras is then the 25 guys who sat at the back for an hour decide that third place is truly important and launch their 800 watter in the pouring rain. Bravo gentelman.
Global put on a clinic for how to safely and effectively block.

Well with the cold rain 54 degress I was very numb and could not seem to move….so not normal day for hotting up:(

From our vantage point, Scot did more pulling but Alan did some during the break, which at one point was 1:25 seconds ahead of the field. At the end, the two spoke to each other a few seconds before the sprint and away they went. Alan made it to the line first. Only they know what happened. What I know is that BOTH of these men deserve our praise for an outstanding performance.
Sounds like a job for the Warren Commission.

FOGGY Rainly 45 lap race….From lap 2 Dioslaki went head to head with 20 yr old pro Jackie Simes. After dropping (in short order) their Mengoni breakaway 3rd guy David, Simes & Dioslaki HAAAMMERED, lapping the field until 3 laps to go when the 2 almost caught the field for a 2nd time.
Jackie managed to shake Stepahn at that point joining & immediately attacking the field for the win. So ultimately Jacki lapped the field twice. Steve continued on but just missed lapping the field for the 2nd time and got a well deserved and Impressive 2nd place on the day…
