There’s so many races in so many places this weekend, that if you don’t watch yourself, you could end up with a number pinned to you, competing against other racers.
Saturday has the Cadence Cup Prospect Park Series in um, Prospect Park. There’s also the High Point Hill Climb in Montague, NJ, and Saturday also has the quest for pottery at the Jiminy Peak Road Race in Hancock, MA, a town named by 18th century fifth graders.
Sunday has many options also. The Criterium New York at FBF looks to have a new layout for the old standard course; the Tour of Colt’s Neck is available for those with the means to travel; and finally, if you like dirt, it’s a short trip to the Wawayanda Spring Cleaning in Hewitt, NJ, the opening event in the H2H series.
Â
FIRST!!!
I’m really happy there’s a new (Criterium NY) race but I’m bored with FBF. It doesn’t matter how you arrange the course, it’s still a bumpy airfield. We already have the Tuesday series coming up on the fifth, do we need more races there?
Please don’t get me wrong, I’m happy to have a race I’d just like to see some new locations. I’m sure there are more available. Before I get flamed with “why don’t you start your own,” I’ll try it!
3rd! Podium! This is so tired!
cue FRS guy…
still think a mccarren park crit would be fuckin awesome!
http://tinyurl.com/d28s8c
if someone steps up and promotes it, i will take credit, of course–anonymously
You could pave a twisty bike race circuit, like they have all over the UK, in FBF right on top of the tarmac. Here’s a sample from London:

It’s already May..and I have some teammates who raced 1 or 2 races…I think I am going to kick them off the team. Any takers?
I’ll take anyone who is fresh for may/june races. Need cat2/3s. free kit and relaxed atmosphere.
sure, where can I reach you?
J Peak Predictions?
you are going to kick them off the team but are trying to arrange for them to get on a new team? fuck em let them go shop around.
Teammates who take kit, suck up budget and don’t race. Discuss.
I have a teammate who I’ve seen at 1 park race so far this season. Got an e-mail from him this morning: He MIGHT come to Prospect IF it doesn’t rain. (Of course if he does grace us with his presence, he’ll ride around struggling at the back until he gets dropped…er… I mean, until he has a flat…)
Nothing classier than talking shit about your team mates anonymously online.
This shouldn’t be news, this should be common sense. If your team has issues, you should address them in the open.
10:06, i think that was a joke, but if that was a serious post, i want to tell you that is is f-ckin AWESOME you just called out your own teammate anonymously on NYVeloCity. back to basics baby … niiiice
kind of related to the email list argument, no? you should call them out here, by name. should be fun.
there are many reasons why someone is not racing often, but if they feel their entire season will be like that, they should not partake in new kit.
I think teams need to set some guidelines when recruiting/signing on new members. Conversely, guys need to be honest with teams when they sign on and take free swag (if any). Some guys have the time and energy to race from March -Nov. Some guys race March – May, others focus on August (Road) – Dec (cross). ITs all a matter of time and energy and goals.
For 3 years I have been on a team of great guys by they simply dont race beyond April (with a few exceptions). I train alone, travel alone and race alone. This has led me to focus on Mtn XC and CX mainly since the team dynamic has less of an impact on the race. Next year I am saving the $400 in “team expenses/kit costs” and racing unattached. No pressure to race where or when.
As for Jiminy Prediction…, looks like another year of rain.
Cat 4s – Dont know any of them – maybe CJammet (darkhorse) or James Stevens if he is still racing 4s.
Cat 3s – Berstein, Slokar and Atocha (this guy has to be the most improved racer in NYC)
Cat1-2s – Margarite or J-Powers
35+ – Roger or Ruiz
To win something with any hills in it is a stretch.
Cat 3s – Prensky or Slokar (should be 2s soon)
jammet? has been eating pork all week. try again.
I think every team has deadbeats. It annoys the heck out of me too, and when I read that I was hoping my own deadbeats would read it and think it was about them. I agree with the rider who posted that, and he didn’t shame anyone in public, so no harm, no foul. But I would like to point out that if he only has ONE teammate who’s been absent this season, he might be on the best team in the city. Most teams have several “club riders” (to use the nicest term I can think of), not just one and the racing burden falls on the same 4 or 5 guys week-in and week-out.
Those predictions are pretty good. Prensky won it in the 4s last year. Atocha did well, I think? Slokar and Cuttler are looking good.
Has anyone ever tried to host a crit in either stadium parking lot?
In Chicago, they just announced a six week crit series held in the Soldier Field parking lot.
http://soldierfieldcycling.com/sfc/
Imagine the possibilities: new pavement, no joggers, endless course shape possibilities.
Races could be held on non-game days in the mornings to avoid any potential conflict.
So who out there know Mets or Yankees management?
a good way to weed deadbeats is to have an A team and a B team. Both teams where the same or similar kit. Both participate in team training rides. A team gets priority sponsorships has more obligations to train/be competitive/etc. Anybody can join B team. Tryouts/interviews are held for A team spots. If A team guys are deadbeats, they get demoted and somebody else fills their spot.
doihaveswineflu.org
Better yet, a good way to weed out deadbeats is to go pro and STFU. We’re all club riders, get over yourselves.
Jesse, why do you always post anonymously? If you have something to say, say it. No big deal. I understand your frustration, but the whole deal with being on Danny’s Cycles is that you don’t have any pressure to race or get results. We are realistic about our goals and race our bikes for fun. If we win some races that is great, but it is more about having a good time with your friends. You say that, “Next year I am saving the $400 in ‘team expenses/kit costs’ and racing unattached. No pressure to race where or when.” I would love for you to name one time when anyone on the team has pressured you in any way, shape, or form. Anyway, you quit the team once before and the guys let you back on the team, even though I told them you would just quit again and obviously I was right. Don’t get me wrong, I think you are a really nice guy and I enjoy riding with you, but I don’t like hearing you complain about the team when our intentions were clear from the beginning.
sometimes he does sign JG. i’m wondering why he is always pegging bernstein and atocha for the win.
Jesse ousted!!
btw, wtf is Jesse?
ousted or outed?
uosted! that Jesse!
Jousted!
If you only race faraway hilly road races, and you’re on a track-focused team like Danny’s Cycles, you won’t get to race with your teammates that much. That’s not the team’s fault, it’s just a bad match. We had 3 to 6 riders at Kissena every week last season and had a lot of fun and got good results, so to say guys didn’t race isn’t accurate. But anyway, I’d hope that at the club/masters level no one should be frustrated on a team that’s a bad fit. If you’re not enjoying where you’re at, you should make a change to a situation that works better for you. You’re not going to change anyone else (without paying them a salary).
Hockey on bikes onceraced at Shea Parking lot…Mihael would know?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qO8xBlkumYM
I’m flattered by the jiminy predictions but I have been on the bike 3x since the crash at Battenkill. There are 3-4 guys on the prereg list that could win tomorrow, I’m not one of them.
T
come to a relaxed atmosphere, park races, harlem and floyd only. Experienced threes and twos who want easy going team and kit. Power meters, techies and people who train more than 10hrs a week need not apply. If you raced in the early nineties all the better. send resume to: chillax@sellz.org
wtf is sellz.org, pervert
Are you in the fifties? born again?
“I don’t do crits(bc I am afraid)”
“I don’t race in the rain(bc I am afraid)”
“I want all the goodies and team benefits(discounts)(and I want to put as little contribution as possible)”
“I will show up when I want(bc I am busy)”
“I want to be a TT specialist(but I am lucky if I make top 10 when most of the strong riders are at road races)
Why are you on a TEAM? Just go grab yourself a CRCA or Astana kit and race on your own.
Why not a Mellow Johnny’s kit?
All this talk about teams is making me jealous. I’m trying to find a CRCA sub-team (like 14:16) to do some park racing with and not having any luck batting my eyelashes at the guys I meet in the park early in the morning.
Cat 2 from the West Coast (but just back racing after a decade away) and not looking to do anything more than the local stuff. Can hang with the A fields in the park races I’ve done so far, no problem.
Contact me at gavinb@rocketmail.com if you’ve got a spot. And yeah, I’ll race in the rain. Won’t train in the rain but will definitely race in it. See y’all at PP tomorrow.
not having any luck batting my eyelashes at the guys I meet in the park early in the morning
oh! you should have said so! i just thought you wanted to have gay bike sex in the rambles stall.
gavin, welcome to nyc … should be no issue finding a team to ride w/
if ur not already on it, get on the crca yahoo group:

Funny. The funnier part is that there are many out there, including people that I know, who will read this and will not know that it is about them…
Dan…Astana kit…well how about used ML, SA, razorfish, Metro kit?
Don’t forget remax, breakaway, renaissance, and many others…
i like the old crca kits i see occasionally. early 70s typography. very cool
i once an older distinguished gentleman riding the LIE service road around 106/107 wearing what looked like one of the oldest mengoni kit designs around. WHO IS HE? i didn’t have the balls to ask.
saw. i once saw.
registration closes in 1 hour. 3 racer registered.no 1-2 cats.
whats the deal?
ah all this friday garbage is amusing.
the deal is, cat 1s and 2s dont pre-reg unless its absolutely necessary. They aren’t retarded like all the cat 4s that jam up the internet the moment bear mountain opens.
does that adequately answer your question?
And that was the latest episode of my favorite NYVC program, “Cat 1/2 Eye for Cat 3/4 Guy”
it’s worth logging in to recommend comments like that, thanks for the LOLz
Only shows up to do TT and rides the fancy wheels…WEAK.
Rad ball would never work here…No one has the skills.
playing pocket pool while riding around Cats Paw
Years ago (2002?) Anthony did a race around the minor league stadium on Staten Island
Someone help bring that race back. It would be difficult to map out a course with its current configuration yet we need more races downtown IMO. Also, the now defunct Wall Street criterium should be resurrected as well.
The rider you saw was almost certainly Bill Bauer. He runs what left of the once powerhouse GBSC team. Talk to him if you see him again. He’s very friendly and has terrific stories, like riding and winning 24 hour road races in Central Park. Bill Bauer makes JFT seem like a newbie to the sport.

Race Director
Kissena Cycling Club
kissena somehow controlled the race today. They didn’t do any work at all to bring the break back, just sitting on the front slowing things down and letting the Giant guy do all the work
Hey Charlie — Great race today, and thanks for getting the results up so quickly. I definitely feel like I get my money’s worth out of these races. Keep it up.
13:15,
kissena did not work on purpose because we were well represented in the break
they rode at the front and slowed things down just enough to help us establish a gap
it is called “blocking”
-william d-c
Rode a smart race
yeah there were two kissena riders in an eight person break. nobody with half a brain expected them to bring the break back.
I’m glad we’ve established a baseline for smart racing.
clearly showcasing that results can indeed be put up quickly
had to be at least three minutes
Paul Carbonara (Axis) won Jiminy Peak Masters.
Evelyn Stevens WINS the Woman’s race!
I would say Kissena was in good form today, BVF didn’t have it at all..so, who’s stronger Kissena or BVF?? good question
who the fuck cares
it’s a fact buddy, sorry if you don’t like it
we have something called team work!!!!
you kissena dudes are like cockroaches. you don’t see cat 4 ny velocity riders starting shit with other teams on this site. have some class.
Kissena and BVF are my favorite teams. They are well represented in New York. Wherever i go, there is a kissena or a BVF rider:)
Well folks, let me be the first to share the news…Paul rocked the house at Jiminy Peak today. He led a very impressive bridge to the winning break then proceeded to kick their asses in the hill sprint as the field started chomping at their heels. I witnessed all at the finish and Paul crushed them fair and
square.
Please join me in congratulating Paul on a super impressive victory.
WAY TO ROCK, PAUL!! CONGRATS!!
who’s that Giant guy?
That’s pretty sweet, 21:09.
Let’s take that in reverse order:
“have some class.”
“starting shit with other teams”
“kissena dudes are like cockroaches”
You’ve turned william d-c’s asinine post into a light shining brightly on your own hypocrisy. Bravo.
At least william signed his name.
Lots of CRCA and other New Yorker’s in top 10’s of Jiminy Peak. For 4’s Alistair Siebert of Setanta 2nd, Jeffrey Ingraham of Metro 5th and Carr Setanta 10th. Evie Stevens does it again for women’s field, Fabienne Gerard (cat 4!) of Teany got 7th! Annemarie Miller 10th.
See http://www.berkshirecycling.org/races/jiminy_results.php for more.
Great results for NYC. Bear will be GRRREAT!
RACE HARD, BE SMART AND ENJOY A BEER OR 12 AFTER THE RACES….
hey–the 5 boro results will get posted quicker than an AVD race
anyone know where is the fbf crit at? don’t see the reg anywhere…
Cancelled, but it was a secret.
AVD crit
http://www.bikereg.com/events/register.asp?eventid=8495
Do not see anything about being cancelled.
i know where the pre-reg is, but the physical reg isn’t here, i’m at fbf
It is great, the results from a big race like Jiminy are up on the same day.
AVD info about the spring series, or the new crit, is well, nowhere.
AVD said the race is on the runway. Did you check JFK and LGA?
Agree with 10:06… Sounds like a David Sommerville post.
Please don’t compare BVF to Kissena. There is no comparison. Kissena sucks. PERIOD! Just look at how the club is organized.
Oh, and I don’t even ride for BVF and I that Kissena is a night mare of a club. Funny story, person came up to me the other day that is new in town and asked me what clubs should I look into. I gave him two clubs. One which was BVF. But I warned him to stay the fuXk away from Kissena. Bunch of retards. Ragot and Stacey are the leaders of the pack too!
Mike Green, if you are going to do an interview with a CRCA rider, at least spell their name right.
The Carbonara interview was a good read. http://www.crca.net/2009/05/paul-carbonaro-interview/
crca.net is starting to put up some good stuff and very prompt results
can anyone out there verify that levi leipheimer was popped for amphetamines after the 1996 national crit championships? where can i get proof? a link?
Please, where the hell is registration for The Criterium of new york? I’m soaked.
Do you really need verification levi was popped for anything over 10 years ago? seriously? You’re worse than a bunch of chicks.
yes, i need verification. my chick friends and i are gossiping about levi and need to settle a bet.
(do you really not want to know the truth?)
no. wait, you think he’s clean? hehe…thats cute.
Got popped for Sudafed. Said he had a cold and didn’t know any better.
If you’re a cat 2, and looking for a team…first of all, why are you racing CRCA? The only teams you should look at there would be Empire or Foundation. Or just join a team that has no involvement with CRCA….cause club races are lame.
yeah and BVF and Kissena both suck.
Adler has more 2s than either of those teams.
Does anyone have any pics from prospect, may 2nd? thank you
No Prospect pics yet – but some partial video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m9wAqNN-Dic&feature=related
About half a dozen guys from We Stand United/Sheepshead Cycling came down to Lancaster and did the Turkey Hill Classic this year.
Just like last year, they showed up late, and the promoter had to chase one guy down to sign his release form on line (at least they didn’t pull up right as the race was staging and delay the start like last year).
Bike handling issues aside, I saw three different guys from the team wantonly throwing garbage on the ground (gel wrappers, etc.). The coup de gras was when one dude who pulled a water bottle out of his pocket and, after discarding the cap and downing the contents, threw the spent bottle right to the ground in the middle of the field, to be run over by the guys behind him.
Turkey Hill is a great event that the local community gets behind. Every year it raises several thousand dollars for local charitable organizations. It only takes a few local homeowners complaining to the township about garbage in their lawn to get events like this canceled, which would be a real blow to the guys who train and race in the area.
Next year, if they decide to show up, it would be really great if the WSU/Sheepshead guys arrived a bit earlier and didn’t act like such friggin’ slobs…
Thanks..!

An Internet troll, or simply troll in Internet slang, is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum or chat room, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response[1] or to generally disrupt normal on-topic discussion.[2]

is irony dead? seriously i’m convinced you people don’t realize more than half the posts on this site are JOKES.
Fabienne Gerard rules again, this time at Colt’s Neck, with Annie Donovan of TeaNY at 3rd and Colleen Conway of TeaNY at 5th. Nice job again to TeaNY! And another CRCA, Kevin Brubaker, takes the win in the 3’s.
