Typical ken harris BS. Doesn’t race mengoni so he can win a CRCA scratch race the next day when only a few show. Just like the hour record. Who cares. Was ken’s hour record powered by his own sense of self satisfaction? Nice enough guy but way too impressed with himself.

Ouch. That post is harsh.. but true. It basically sums up people’s view of him. Nice enough guy, but weird as hell and takes himself and his racing crazy serious.

Ken was racing all day Saturday at the State Track Championships at Kissena. He did well, lapping the field in the 1/2 points race. He then with no rest entered the Masters points race. He was psyched to then do the Madison with Tony slokar but it was canceled.
LaCorte killed everyone in the kilo TT. The guy is fast. He did 1.11 with Tony Slokar, Colin Prensky and Ken at around 1:16.
Endurance track is a legitimate pursuit and it’s Ken’s strength. He’s never claimed to be the best at hilly road races and a threat to win the P/1/2 at Bear Mtn.

I take advancing in the rec lane seriously, and missed marshaling dates.
Racers in NYC have a couple of the best and most accessible race venues in the country. There is no reason for either by the officials or the peloton to tolerate misbehavior which endangers these venues. That includes misbehavior following the event.
I am an endurance track rider. I go to T-town once a week to have my ass handed to me by my betters — those with real speed — and hang out with the far more civil people who race track. The Mengoni aftermath really reconfirms that.
Like any endurance track rider, if the hills aren’t too long, I can mess up a race. I’m old, I have limited talent. It’s not too impressive. I’m doing the hour record because it’s hard to do, and it’s just on the edge of what’s possible for me. I’m as likely to fail as not. If I do set it, Sprouse will just take it next year, or Feldman or Williams. They could crush whatever I put up.
I race for me, not for you. I manage the Club for you. If you don’t like it, volunteer.

Is it true that a 3 woman break passed the B field? Their lap times would seem to confirm that.
Wheelsucker
it is true. the moto and the ladies tried to pass a stubborn cat 4 field at least twice. the field wouldn’t move over. it was reeee-tarded.
Wheeler
the women would pass B pack but B’s moto was with Bs break which I guess women never passed so Bs were not properly neutralized and soon enough would pass women’s break… this happened a few times for quite a while. Now if motos had radios then….we would be… pros

did not race with the men. She was sidelined by a bad wreck the day before with subsequent head trauma.

just fyi the women started as the first field like 2+ minutes before Bs, Bs passed them after 2nd lap, then women’s break did the yoyo thing, after which Bs passed them and each went their merry way. No spanking, just a club race, calm down.

A club racer walked up to a famous pro before a mountain stage of the Tour de France. He asked the pro what type of gearing he would use that day.
“Special gearing would be suitable for a cyclist like you, my friend,” the pro teased. “But I am a simple rider. Ask the race what gear it will be in; only when it tells you that can I say what gearing I will use.”

As someone stated, the B’s passed the women out of the gate then later, the women’s break attempted to pass the B field – about 60% of the B’s moved over but then some resisted – this may have happened 2 times – but history of lap times would suggest that the women’s race would not be able to stay in front of the B field for long – check the lap times on CRCA. In the end the W’s break didn’t gain an advantage and B’s were barely inconveneinced… so its all good.
Maggie
Actually the break was stuck behind the mens field for the rest of the race. We slowed down on our final lap so that we might actually sprint and not end up in teh B’s pack. Despite what history might suggest, it is very frustrating to be neutralized every race, sometimes hitting brakes and not pedaling, to allow for mens fields and breaks to pass.
I understand that it would be frustrating to see-saw back and forth neutralizing the B’s then the break then the B’s. But three times this year a woman’s break has run into a men’s field and the men’s field has not been neutralized. Why don’t we try adequately neutralizing the men, allow the ladies to pass, and see what happens, just once instead of pontificating about what history suggests. If it doesn’t work, I’m sure we could evaluate other options.
Wheelsucker
That seems strange because after the crash in B finish the second half of the field sat up and pedaled in slowly but I don’t recall any women riders coming through us and we took our time with the race already decided – were you right behind us? If I missed that my bad…
That said I totally understand your frustration. Although history is all we have to go on but yeah- you guys cranked a 14:28 lap – which is pretty much unprecedented… if you win again maybe you should hit the A field or B’s if you haven’t already… since the usual women’s 16 min laps might not be getting you out of endurance…
Wheelsucka
Gender, historical lap times, and someone’s decision to race the As, Bs, Cs, Masters’ or Women’s field are all red herrings.
If a field is caught, it yields. End of story. If that field has to re-catch and be inconvenienced, so be it.
The Bs are a good field – I have no doubt they understand this. Step up and do the right thing next time.

Women’s race was one lap shorter, so their sprint would’ve taken place with the B’s having one to go. I was in the B field and never heard the moto trying to neutralize us, though I did hear some guys saying that the women’s break was catching us. I think if the moto was more assertive we would’ve moved over.
B Pack fill
When the women’s break started coming up on the men (West 90’s), a 2-3 man break from the B’s was just in sight (:15 advantage?). I for one was watching to see if it was going to be brought back. Going full neutral would have handed them the race. The Majority of riders did pull to the right lane (didn’t slow, but pulled out of the way). If the W’s break (and moto) were serious about passing, there was enough room (the break was 7-8 women?).
That being said Kudos on making the W field tough and not just hanging around for a sprint.
Wheelsucker
The whole B field moved to the right lane. If the W’s wanted to pass they had plenty of opportunity. But we could not slow down and give away the race to the break.
Wheelsucker
Didn’t the women get caught by the 4s on lap one the week before at he Harlem pts race? They must have rested up for this one.
