Hangover 3/3/2008

Section head text.

Will O’Donnell wins the 123 at Branch Brook, other field reports are sketchy. In the Spring Series, Rashad Guerra takes the win over Igor Misicki from a break that included, um, people – it looked like Gavi Epstein was there. Jeff Klein from Kreb’s wins the masters race.

In the 3/4 race George Gyarmathy wins the race in a field sprint over Tadeuz Marszalek, and just misses the wrath of schmalz’s 10th place sprint fury.

No Bethel reports – please help us out.

Tom Danielson totally wusses out and doesn’t sign up for the 123 in any area races.

from the pictures, after rashad, igor and gavi, looks like chris loudon, franklin burgos, eddy ceccolini, with another foundation in the break.

Tom Daniel-san

slow first lap, OK it was cold and the start was delayed.
2nd lap, riders attack downhill at the pool, field approaches Harlem Hill and squeeze levers and break uphill, chess players smile, “I can sit up now, I have a rider in the break with no chance of winning”. The rest of us either can’t won’t or enjoy…
3rd lap, breakaway has 30-45 seconds depending on which source…but you can still see them up the eastside so any fast lap should bring them back.
FF to last lap, all finally combine into some sort of effort for efforts sake, while others get in the way “blocking”.
Break stays and surprise Rash is fastest. Someone leads out sprint thru S turn at bottom of hill and gets a reality check on working too late, too hard, and too long of a sprint even with a CP 3,2,1 field.
Thanks to OA for photos.

hater? moi?

There was a big Adler guy in the 1-2-3 riding OK, but everytime he got out of the saddle his wheels made some whoosh whoosh sound. Did not sound smooth. Sounded sketchy.

Does anyone know if the P/1/2 race still starts *after* Masters? The listed start times seem to indicate otherwise, but I don’t believe it.

hairy ape

The most I’ve yet seen in one race. I saw one guy crash by himself. What the hell? It’s not that tricky of a course.

Anonymous

Whats with that? Also, no Empires or Mengonis in the break? So how many of the 4s that flock to the march and april races will be racing this summer? Seems to die down once the real racing begins…

Its the complete opposite experience. Organized, good vibes and good racing… plus you get results posted.

whoa, looks like Rashad hit the gym this winter. If he doesn’t kick your ass on the bike, he’ll kick it off the bike.

Anonymous

I’m just glad he beat foundation. those guys get paid $1k for a park race win. Rashad is a nice guy

Anonymous

why don’t we have a normal forum type area on this site, instead of always needed to argue in comments boxes

Anonymous

why are there no time stamps anymore? how can i refer to people’s anonymous posts now?

my time stamp: 4:37:01.4

Anonymous

i think that’s the point. but anyway a real forum system would maybe be a little more organized and manageable

Anonymous

bullshit, otherwise he could buy any break with that kind of money…lemme see, if I win I make $76, if I sell to Affinity, I can make hundreds more?
fn bunch of neo-suckers!

Anonymous

That’s got to be the dumbest thing if have read on this forum, and there are a lot of dumb comments on this forum.

What would motivate foundation to pay riders for results in an low-level amateur race?

Anonymous

more pictures. I thought someone was going to take pictures of me. Thanks to OA for those great shots.

Anonymous

1000 dollars for a win? JESUS that’s a lot.

the bethel 3/4 field was about 40-50 guys i believe, and the 123 field was about the same, perhaps a little less.

Anonymous

so who exactly would be funding this rich payout? who is the BIG MONEY anon donor behind this team? Sounds like bull to me.

Connor

12 Connor Sallee CRCA JrDev/Orbea 134

Connor Sallee 12th at Bethel 3/4 Race – that ain’t exactly going to get him “pro as sh*t” as he claims

eye freak

Mengoni not making a break is no surprise. Who in Mengoni can get in a break? Wilson??? Pollo??? Wilson is a wheel sucker and Pollo can’t finish a simple park race if not any. All the good riders left Mengoni and Empire was not there leaving a few strong riders in a break and there was nothing the rest of the field can do about it, I saw it if my two eyes.

kwk

if a dude is out of shape does that make him a wheel sucker ? or if he is a sprinter, and is waiting for the TT dudes to hit him a dozen times before the line?

Wilson is not a wheel sucker

what!?

Wilson trained somewhere warm this season like Arizona or something? I think he has more miles than most riders right now. I think he raced there too.

The finish time for the 1/2/3 pack is off. The break finished a 1:17:13 but the pack would of been later? Who won the sprint?

Anonymous

Useless – finishing 75th of 100 can often get you better weighted points then 15th of 50 in a smaller race. Kind of a joke the system…

kevin b.

for the record, i didn’t get 6th in the 3/4. not that it really matters but i ended up walking across the finish line with a broken helmet. i walk briskly but not THAT briskly.

jft

I was not 3rd on Sunday. I wonder if Van Dunk will give me 3rd place money if I ask. It would be appropriate: I got a 5th or 7th place in a spring series race two years ago in pouring freezin rain, crossing the line in a group of about four guys after several laps away and they gave the place to someone who wasn’t in the group. I left the raec directly due to cold so I didn’t protest the result. So I got bubkis when I emailed him about it.

Hahahaha

jft

I’m out of town Sunday so will email Van Dunk about the result which I hope will mean he won’t give you resistance if you try to get the money.

Anonymous

1:17:13 for 3+ race. 15:33 laps indicative of the cold weather perhaps, but I hope they can do better next week.

Anonymous

Means that there were not enough in the given category to give anyone ranking points. Like one cat 3 in a P/1/2/3 group. Doesn’t meet the minimum.

Anonymous

“but I hope they can do better next week”

Last time I checked, this was a road race, not a TT. Race the race and the guys around you, who cares what the time is? Would Rashad race a better race next week if he got second but the lap times were faster?

cnn

Rashad completely deserves respect for winning.
He would have won if the race was 12 min/lap avg or 17 min.
He is prepared to win, read the race, had no help in the break, has a good team controlling the field, and a great victory salute (hahaha).

But there is nothing wrong with hoping for “Pro, 1-3” racing that demands more than cat.5 TT speed. One slow lap to warmup maybe, but the entire race? With 100+ racers that makes shitty use of $2-3k entry fees!
Thats 1 hour 5 min 00 seconds for a 5 lap race…and you can thank me later when the fitness you gain helps in a race that you can upgrade.

Have fun! Play hard!
Peace!
😉

jft

it’s worth some perspective – it was first race of the year for many people and below 30F at the start. Someone told me it was 25F. That’s not normal bike racing temperatures, and I’d expect the speed to be slow.

BTW 100+ riders? In what field?

JG

Congrats on some strong early season racing. Won the Cat3 stage two valle of the sun and 2nd on Sunday. Great job! Keep in up

saturday branchbrook – pouring rain
sunday spring series – ball freezing cold, plus one hour earlier.

I’t a long season. no thanks.

Franco

LOL, not that fast… yea ok…

sorry to break the news to you but he only won the 2007 Empire States Gold in the Road & Crit at 40 yrs old against all these young dudes…

FYI, in his 1st year of cycling (20+ yrs ago), he won the NY track kilo & came in 2nd in the sprints, against guys who had all these disc wheels & years of experience… he had a steel bike, carp wheels and NO track experience at all… he destroyed!

Oh, did I mention that he out-sprinted George Hincapie back then with ease and it’s just a hobby for him, imagine he took it cycling serious… 😉

tell us what you’ve done my son… lol
