I had that same workout on Tuesday, pulled out of my right pedal on the 1st of the 5 second jumps, slammed into the ground like a ton of bricks. Now I’m covered in bruises and road rash. Here’s my question, we shave our legs to make the wounds easier to clean, but not our arms. Why is that? My wife has been diligently and patiently cleaning my boo-boos and changing my bandages. Its so much cleaner and less time consuming on my leg than on my arm. Matted hair in the wounds just isn’t nice. Anyone else ever wonder about this?

P.S. Change your cleats aat the first sign of wear.

we shave our legs due to peer pressure

pros shave their legs b/c its less painful/less likely to get infected pulling out hair follicles when getting a massage

hence, minimal arm shaving

Hey Ken – Can CRCA fund a Central Park lower back shaving station for all the sports bra-wearing tri geek dudes?

Hey Patrick – From the looks of it on TV, many pros do shave the arms as well (and a number of hairy Italians dont…). I also note the post by Andy last year after his not-so-fresh crash in a TT where he lamented the failure to arm shave for same reason as you. I still say its just not worth the hassle on the off chance of a really bad leg-arm-ass-head crash, which (finger and toes crossed) doesnt happen often. Ill stick with legs only, mostly due to peer pressure btw… (oh, and the massage benefits are nice too…)

Ugly — Get Justin Inglis to smuggle in some spay-on Nad’s hair remover. Problem solved.

Arm hair is more aero than none at low speeds — near term turbulence leads to better overall laminar flow.

I suspect a mullet might also be an advantage, although it did nothing for Ekimov. Karpets is the most successful be-mulleted rider I can think of off hand.

shaving the hair off of the leggs also keeps the leggs much cooler in hot weather. those with very hairy arms can get the same benefit from shaving them.
