The Hangover 6/26/06

Section head text.

Ok, now that we all know what blocking is, can we all just:

1: Go around it.

2: Bridge instead of chase.

3: Silently kick yourself in the head for missing the move and stop whining about it.

Wait, what am I saying, forget all that. Keeping coming here to complain. We need the hits. And while you’re at it, click on our sponsor links. They’re all good people who almost never kick puppies and kittens. And flame some random guy anonymously while you’re at it. Thanks.

And buy a “I’m a blocker” t-shirt , too! My gold fronts aren’t going to buy themselves!

Holy Cow! Ugly upgraded. I love this. I keep moving up a spot in the "potential finish place" rankings in the club without actually getting any faster. Of course some Ugly-like sprinter will show up from the C field any time now…

Tony S

Congrats Chris, you make me jelaous!!! Now I don’t have to rack my brain every race as to how to come around you at the finish (virtually impossible guys).

Ugly

Thanks dudes.

All controversy aside, props to the NYVC squad for their Saturday performance. You all looked very strong, communicated well, and rode smart lines (from my perspective). You seem like a team-spirited younger bunch (this is a positive in my opinion) who’s coming along very well. I think you’ve got a clear shot at a top 3 or better B Cup final result (beat ML!!!) so watch out everyone.

jumpimg back in club races

In the A race on a Saturday, and older MayaSoji rider gets dropped the first time up the hill. I won’t give you his name but I think most know who I’m talking about. He jumps back in a lap later. I tell him to stay in the back, he ignores me, I say it again and tell him I will report him to the board if he does not get behind me. His response was Fuck you Mihael, why do you care? Why, because I did not get dropped, I’m having a hard time in the race and don’t want to get gapped off by a struggling squirrely rider in the rain. Sure enough he gets dropped again a lap later. Shouldn’t we enforce these rules? Personally I don’t care if they don’t get in the way, but this guy did, and cursed me out when cearly in the wrong. I have yet to report him to the board, but will gladly do so if anyone cares.

Alan Atwood

Mihael, you should tell Alex R. about this. It’s a violation of USCF road race rules; he should have voluntarily dropped off as soon as he was caught.

Alex R

I wasn’t running the race on Saturday, but you should have reported the rider to the race director that same day. If nothing else, the race director could have spoken to him about this. You should still let the board know about this incident.

Non registered Riders

There is a similar guy who has been showing up to FBF and Prospect races that I know of and doesn’t register but sits in the field. He is a Domincan guy, a bit chubby. I wouldn’t mind him sitting in the back either but he is always in the middle and at some points I have seen him towards the front. He has always been told to go to the back but either doesn’t speak english or ignores you.

kwk

the old lapped rider bullshit , shortly followed by the unregistered rider bullshit. very hard to prove, even if you do good luck on getting the rider a lasting suspension if any.

one of the guys that got b cup points for his team

Yes, it was still a cup race. When someone asked yesterday, it was still a cup race. If you ask tomorrow, it will still be a cup race.

doping

anybody willing to risk having a stroke or heart attack in 10 years
to win a park race, be my guest, they’re idiots. but I don’t know how prevalent it is, epo isn’t that cheap.

Ugly, thanks for the kind words for our NYVC squad – Its nice to see our team of largely upstart riders starting to show the depth of the bench in its first season. Some bozo commented early-season on this site that our team was comprised of "rejects" from other "real" teams, presumably just because we took in a bunch of novice riders (hey, its part of our team mission!). We all quickly realized after some winter training that it would be only a matter of time before we proved that wrong. Sure, we have some novices just starting to figure the game out (this coming from me, the grizzled verteran of two seasons of racing! Ha ha), but I think Shaw, Price and others on the team that either weren’t present or just weren’t noticed last year, are now beginning to have the last laugh after all… We may not have a sprinter of the Ugly caliber just yet, but the pack needs to pay serious attention to at least 4-5 our riders in any given CRCA race for various reasons, which is cool by me…Good luck in the A’s!

lapped riders --

Report them to the race director right after the race. At least one rider got a multi-race suspension from club events for doing this in 2004.

Also, everyone read the rulebook at least once

Criteriums have different rules about lapped riders — everyone should understand the difference between road race and criterium rules. CRCA club races are run as road races. Most Floyd and Prospect Park races are too.

Lemond Vs. Lance –

I wonder if lance could find 10 people that would finger GL for using. It seemed to get under his skin, could it be true?
It seems like every year, one week before the tour, there’s some sort of ‘lets get lance’ campaign going. Its either some book, some news print scandel or crybaby use ta be pro whiners like Lemond jumping into the fray. Everytime it dies out like discarded rubbish. The timing just makes the whole thing stink. Lemond sucks right into it like a friggen sap. Somebody must be paddin his bank account.

B Cup Point Guy

Hey dude if you refresh one more time and post the same thing we are taking your B Cup points away!!!!

Enough about the B Race

Now that we’ve officially ended our discussion on blocking, let’s discuss the old "sitting-in on the breakaway" maneuver. Fair tactic? Totally lame? I heard on good authority that Metro was sitting-in shamelessly in the CRCA A Race winning move.

A. Cohen

REED, I hope you understood my comment from Saturday: You made a ballsy move that paid off. Your team was working for you and you refused to let that go to waste. You absolutely did your share of the effort and made the break succeed. Great Job! Seriously, great working with each of you guys. Rashad thanks for keeping it organized.

BIll

In more worldly news-
Any comment on the fact that (barring Bettini)- no Favs won their respective Nationals. Not Boonen, Not Voit, not Vockler, not Moreau, not Hammond….. You get the picture!

To Bill

Its because they are all in their pre-tour doping cycle. They are ingesting all sorts of crap right now and probably are having bad "stomach cramps"

lee3

Though its probable, I find it difficult to believe Boonan on the juice. In 02′ Roubaix he had ‘Capie chewin on his stem even back then when he was just a wee pup. He’s just getting stronger with age.

Littlefield

Lee, I admire your positive outlook, but (and this is my OPINION only) it’s highly unlikely that he’d be able to toy with the rest of the pro-tour peloton the way he does without….augmentation. Let’s just accept it. They all dope. And they all lie about it. Jesus Manzano tried to tell us the truth, and he was ostracized and vilified for it. As an aside, I hope this Operation Puerto gives him some small amount of satisfaction and vindication.

Charles P.

For the most part, drug tests in cycling detect the symtpoms of doping (elevated hematocrit, testosterone, etc.) rather than the cause (EPO, transfusion, growth hormone, etc.). Until the tests eveolve to the point where they are better at detecting the products themselves, I think one has to assume that all riders are doped up to the detectable manifestations of use. In a perverse way, they are levelling the field by all riding with 50 hematocrit counts. (To use an analogy, it’s one thing to say you passed a DWI breathalayzer, it’s another to claim you weren’t drinking. All the pros are having a beer an hour.)

Shocked and Dismayed

Next you guys are going to tell me that there is augmentation in adult films too, I can’t believe those boobs are fake!!!

Just saw the cycling news Harlem spot! Veeeery cool! The Marco pic taken from the inside of that vestibule – nice touch. The JT write up, well covered, and a good read. Harlem 34 will be huge!

My one shining moment in the sun in cyclingnews, and it’s a Zabel! Oh, what will the British tabloids make of this!

How about an un-official TdF watering hole where us NYC cycling addicts can drop-in and watch the race. Any ideas guys? Obviously Spring lounge is a possibility, but they don’t really have any screens do they?

Tony S

I think there is a bar in Williamsburg that shows the tour but I have no idea what the name of it is

Jay F.

RE: Spring Lounge: For the morning showings of the TdF, I’m sure Jay (the morning bartender) would be happy to put the Tour on the TV in the back room for anyone who asks.

I’ll check with Bryan and repost here if it’s on.

mikem

so it’s "hopeful tuesday" for those traveling to fitchburg. my daring prediction is that roger kicks some serious ass in the 2 race. that’ll be me on your wheel, roger. at least, that’s my hopeful tuesday hope.

mikem

According to Racelistings.com and Bikereg.com the Fourth of July Event is no longer on.
No further in for available.

Damn- now I have to go to a barbecue, drink beer, get sunburned, etc…

Fitchburg

yeah, Roger’s going to be really good at Fitchburg. Also Ramon Benitez, Swain and Zmolik. How’s that for canyd-a** predictions — four guys. Plus Margarite’s going to be consistent for sure….

There is a race July 4th

For those of you lamenting about the loss of the race in NJ; there’s a crit in Northampton, MA for anyone that’s interested. I’ll be announcing.

Alan A.

mikem
