ESG Qualifier

Mengoni in a show of strength, with Eugene and Jason soloing for 1st and 2nd. And there was a Hotness sighting, and we’re not talking about Eugene’s perm.

NJ TT

Westwood Velo wins the overall (Roger Aspholm), 30+ (William O’Donnell), and 35+ (Steve Goldman), 2nd in the 40+ (Troy Kimball).

Sonke Thiel wins out of state men’s race, with Tony Settel 2nd in a PR. To use a Phil and Paul-ism, Anthony Accardi (and coke) is the revelation of the race, with a screaming 54:57 to come in 3rd. Congratulations, Anthony, and enjoy the cat 4 barnacles that will now be permanently attached to your butt.

Joe Saling wins the 65+ 20k in 29:42. Gimme another 25 years and I’ll totally smoke him.

Elizabeth Tyrell only woman to break 1:00.

Snowman Moses and Stripes DeRosa go 1-2 in the out of state Women’s. Caryl Gale 3rd in NJ division.

Princeton

Riffelmacher and David Taylor in a break, Orville takes the win. Anyone got more info here?

CRCA

2 months without a race, and it’s Loehner and Motor again.

Ugly, Slokar, Baldwin in the B’s. Baldwin will be flamed nevertheless. Wait, we have login now.

Our useless field reporter (Schmalz) failed to gather women’s results.

Women’s results, no thanks to Schmalz.

6 Kimille

Tony S(lokar?) suffers the ignominy of winning the Bawm Chicka Bow Wow shirt, by virtue of picking Ugly and not going out on a limb and picking Aspholm.

Anthony Accardi is the MAN! Post your power profile for the TT.
Congrats to Ugly for winning the B race, you spanked me on that sprint. I was glued to your wheel for the last half a lap but when you jumped early going up Cat’s paw, you took me by complete suprise. You have a long-ass sprint! K King had a great jump, too bad he forgot about the Met finish. Great race, the pace was high and it was very aggresive from the gun

Justin

that was a very impressive sprint by Chris U in the B’s. Went early and still won going away. Good stuff.

kwk

really not much to say about the crash, there were guys down .from the clinic. no one said a thing i slammed into them.

they must have just fallen seconds before we got there. I dont think it was anyones fault. i needed a new bike anyway this one was already six months old. ha ha

mandrapa

nice ride accardi, I was telling people how strong you were after we saw you up there training at bear mtn.

Hey, doesn’t the Hudson Valley ESG Qualifier get any ink here? I raise this for no particular reason…

mikem

karl, you hurt anything seriously? you were looking pretty dazed and confused–i think i asked you what you’d hurt and you said something like "nothing, just my head"… anyway, get better, man…

B race:
Crooks (NYC velo owner and part of the Aclder crew) and a few others got off the front on the West Side and that strung out the field. Which was good and allowed us all to move up thru the field and get better postions..Puny was on point driving hard, but we needed a second guy..I had to fight to get on Puny’s wheel by 72nd street to continue the train. I hooked onto Puny wheel and he drilled it hard until the Boat house. I took the rest and dumped Chris midway between Cat’s paw and the "reg start finish line" when the road started to level out and he took it in for the win…
Congrats JA squad. Jay was freakin’ awesome as team captain…for those of you who heard all the barking..it was Jay issuing out the team orders.
And to all the wheel suckers who thought you could pull around our boy in the end..well better luck next time.

Ugly

It was definitely a great team effort for us (thanks guys), but Ken’s full-gas tow up the Paw didn’t hurt either. Although, next time, I could do without the accidental "banana in the tailpipe" move.
14 min laps in a B race! Yer all sandbaggers, all of you! Great fun!

Good racing this weekend. Congrats to Chris, a great win in the B’s on Sunday. Big props to Slokar with a strong 2nd place finish. All top finishers showed a lot of class in a very fast and aggressive race. Good job by those who worked hard to help get these guys to the line for a great finish. Anthony Accardi, excellent work in NJ!!! Gotta pack up another suitcase for this weekend’s B Team Cup TT.

what were conditions like at the ESG qualifier? wet, dangerous, toxic puddle? i want to justify staying in bed.

Ray

This mean NYVELOCITY is now a LEGIT site. You guys can make real money now. LOL. Well if its niche enough you might get bought.

Glad to see a login now.

ESGQ PP conditions

The puddle was pretty big but not dangerous in terms of crashing. Though it’ll take a few days to see if anyone who raced gets sick…it was distrubing getting splashed with dirty water.

Other than that conditions were fine. Slightly wet roads on part of the course, a few other puddles and a little very light rain for a few minutes, but not cold. A few guys raced with rain jackets and few guys raced with bare arms and SS jerserys. Most people had shorts, SS jerseys and armwarmers.

kwk

thanks for asking Mike, i was seeing stars for a little while, literally, all is cool now, that is the second time my teammate Carlos had to sak me what day of the week it is and who the president is. post crash triage is his speciality

Justin

reply to kwk: to which the only correct answers were:
"Team Cup Day" and "Ken Harris"

Glad everyone is OK

Ray

BTW – does anyone have pics of my taking flight at the Saturday’s Sommerville? I know there were photographers there. Also, there was a race in PP this Sunday?

adm

Hmmm. My first registered post. What to say? Hmmm. Seems like a flame of some type would be appropriate. Hmmm.

Jeff King is a big fat a-hole.

Yeah. That felt good.

Jeff King

Dude…. I thought we agreed at the team meeting only to rip on Matt Howard.

I knew something was up when, at the last race, you kept telling me to check to see if they made shorts in a larger size.

women’s race

there were a bunch of new riders in the women’s race yesterday, which was very exciting to see. the nyvelocity team was out in force (and in new kit), and there were a few very strong women in crca jerseys as well.
one suggestion for the new gang– spend as much time as you can riding pace lines together and working on skills in general. everyone out there yesterday looked fit; the skills part comes with time but is equally (or more) important.
… to the crca rider on the red bike…sh*t you are strong. i think your bike is moving around so much because you are slightly overgeared, super-strong, and your upstroke is lifting the bike off the road. it was scary but weirdly impressive at the same time.
ok i will shut up now.

TS

Jason Bremer flatted in the tt. Based on his 10k split I am guessing he would have done at least a 53:30 and probably closer to a 53:00. Who the hell is Anthony Accardi??? Nice ride!!! Welcome to the Psychotic TT’ers Club inside crca. Next meeting is Friday night to talk about body hair waxing to gain those precious seconds. Actually, that is gross and pathetic. Maybe we should call it the Gross and Pathetic TT’ers Club. Don’t answer that.

ker

I was impressed with the strength of the new women, too. Especially the woman who hammered down Harlem Hill each time. I thought she was going to drop me on the down hill! I

Lise

Does anyone know what the results were in the women’s ESG qualifier? Only the men’s results are listed as far as I can tell. I heard only 3 women showed — is that true and if so is that typical?

W ESG Q

Lise, we just rode the mens race for fun because we automatically qualified for the three slots available–I rode half the race, the other girls a bit less. I’d say the turnout was absolutely weather related–this year and last had low turn-outs, but the years prior were probably 20-25 women.

Unionvale RR?

Hate to break up a nice thread however, I gotta ask – Is there anybody going to this event (july) w/ a seat & bike spot open – looking for a ride! I’ll register for it if so.

Lise

Hey Liz, That’s right — the weather was horrible. I forgot. And I didn’t realize it was racing in the men’s field. So not surprised by the turnout. Good for you three making it out there and hanging in as long as you did.

Maybe I'm a tough guy in some things

The weather was not bad at all at the ESGQ. Only that one puddle was a problem. Sure, the weather was predicted to be horrible, but it you’re serious about racing (and not on the cusp of getting sick), at a minimum you should get up in the morning, get your gear together and go out. If it’s bad weather or you’re not enjoying yourself or you can’t see in the rain, then stop. But sometimes the weather may surprise you and not be as bad as predicted. And sometimes the weather may be bad but you’ll surprise yourself and do well or have a good experience.

I guess I can see that knowing the turnout will be tiny is another reason to avoid the race ("racing" two other people can’t be fun), but I still think it’s proper to just get out there.

How many 75 mile races are there in NYC? Not many — so I’m surely not going to miss that.

Also about ESGQ

Just to be clear — the woman do not normally race the men at the qualifier (or at the Games themselves) . They normally have a separate race, which was scheduled to be 50 miles long. As Liz mentioned, it was normal-sized last year. I think the organizers of the race Saturday and/or the women, decided that since there were only 3 of them they’d go out with the men.
