In our never ending quest for ways to make you do our work for us, we present our latest weekly feature – Hopeful Fridays, the good twin of the Monday Hangover. Because hope springs eternal on Friday, before we’ve had our hats handed to us over the weekend.
Post your predictions for the weekend, talk some ill-advised smack, tell us where you’re racing, and most importantly, anonymously tell us who’s getting dropped.

P123: Let’s see, Sakonnet out in force, but there will be no stopping Mengoni. The only question will be who they’re racing for, Lisban, Pollo, Gavi?
Women: 3 pre registered…
35+: Mihael all the way!!!! Unless he does something stupid. Wait, they’re not racing for smokes or Nicorette, strike that.
3/4: The Motor, Bencivengo, Sauvayre, and Willingham will break this one up. Will JP ‘Ted’ Kaminski or ‘nickname redundant’ Uglietta join them? Mr. Harris will be racing with an aim to punish.
45+: 5 pre registered…
5: Isaac ‘Guess Who’s Coming for’ Dinner. C’mon, I’m not made of stone. Every once in a while I swing at the high fastball.
Blueberry Bicicletta Road Race
Not many pre reg’d here, quickie picks. The suave Sonke Thiel for the P123’s, Zeb Nelessen for the 3/4’s. Where’s Mullica Township?
Is this really the only game in town this weekend?
Union Grove tomorrow. Myself in the 4/5s, two NYVCers in the 5’s. Patrick Gellineau (Squiggle) in the 3/4s. Where’s Edgemont when you need them?
I’m gonna check out Blueberry (1st time). Taking a big group of Organic riders. There are a couple Navigators signed up in the pro 1-2 field. Its on Sunday and only a couple hours away.
Can’t we call it Pennsylbama or Pennsylsippi, I’m from Kentucky.
Do not underestimate drive time to Blueberry
Also, Lou Maltese Sr. (RIP) used to always write "Penna."
Ken Harris should be embarrassed if he lines up in the 3/4 field. That’s be like a Cat 4 lining up in the kids race. Clearly dominant, but sort of bullying. He’ll win, no doubt, but how could he feel good about it?
How can you say someone "should be embarrassed" when you can’t even write your own name? Anonymous sniping is embarrassing.
Ken’s also lining up for the 1,2,3. If you’re going to spend the day at a race and not train, why not do both races? Plus if he’s still a 3 and not eligible to upgrade based on results then its just a matter of necessity to get the points. You are obviously weak, afraid and never learned to draft – time for you to retire the cleats and take up knitting.
Ken is also doing 2 races. If he was just doing the 3/4 maybe, but he is doing the 3/4 and the 1/2/3, so good for you Ken. Ken doesn’t need to be embarresed about anything.
Mr. C’mon is probably just a another pack sprinter, who go figure can’t sprint, and won’t ever take a chance in a race and is happy with 10th place.
Gargle gargle derka derk Pannsylkyrgyzstan. Jihad!
Look out 4’s my buddy Jon Warchol has only 2 more races in the 5s If he races this weekend I predict WIN WIN WIN He placed 5 th and 3rd at Sturbrige and palmer only his 7th and 8th races.
There is a 43 riders prereg. for Blueberry. (see bikereg.com) Ideal Tile has 7 or 8 riders in the race, so it’s a good setup for Sonke who might be their strongest rider. Of course I’ll try to make their life a bit complicated.
Possibly 2 NYers in the Lake Sunapee RR.
Sunapee is probably my favorite road course but I haven’t done it in years — wish I could get up there for that one.
Sunapee P12 has:
Phil Cortes Garneau-Optik
Jamie Lamb Garneau-Optik
Alex Lavallee Garneau-Optik
Mathieu Roy Garneau-Optik
David Veilleux Garneau-Optik
I say ken should race as many 3/4 races because he can. Kickt he shit out of the fat bastards.
Judy Miller if your reading this I think you should be embarassed by how awfull you are for our sport.
Under your control you have made the NYC fields slant to Cat 3 who are just to strong for the feilds they are force to race. From VB to Blue Ribbon.
If you contsently win then you should be upgraded. Shit women whats your problem?
KEN RACE TO WIN!!! DESTROY THE POOR FOOLS WHO THINK THEY CAN HANG!!!!
The PARK
For the first time since the early 1860’s, I agree with Prospect Park.
Judy Miller, we assign you to the leavings at the bottom of our horse paths. Tread not upon our pavement, you are not welcome.
Now here this, if you just sit in and watch Ken harris ride away in a 3/4 race you really aren’t allowed to complain anymore.
If you are a 4, killed yourself to try and stay with Ken and were subsequently dropped. Then showed up the next week and had it happen again. You are allowed to complain.
Everyone else SHUT UP!
J. Miller
ken, i hope you’re at least reading and getting a kick out of this. i think a full third of the posts on this site are about you.
Three members of Visit Britain have been arrested in New Jersey, presumably for anti-American activities in and around River Road.
I think you mean "hear"
wait, is that for real about arrests? having had a few run-ins with the rather zealous authorities there, i wouldn’t be surprised in the least. details?
Ms Miller is just trying not to step on my toes kids. This is the way it works. regional USCF officials don’t have the latitude of say – George W Bush and the way he just ignores the constiution or the checks and ballances of the other branches of the govenment, to just upgrade someone without the proper amount of wins/points would be doing the same.
Besides, hell be gone soon, and you still have half a season left.
If you are like me, you were planning on taking the train to Wantagh tomorrow, but Glen, the head of the montauk century ride, decided to promise the LIRR that no bikes will be on the trains on sunday. thats nice of him to screw everyone not involved with that ride. send your love mail to Glen at, montauk@5bbc.org
For what it’s worth to the anonymous posters; I don’t appreciate the sentiment towards Judy Miller. The fact of the matter is that you’re not going to get upgraded if you race with the same people every single weekend; I don’t care if you’re beating them every weekend. I know it’s difficult for some NYC’ers to go race outside the borders, but it’s gotta be done if you’re going to become a 3 or a 2.
One solution; get together and form a local association for NYC, then you can do what you want…..hell if you want to establish separate categories for NYC races I’m sure Judy will listen.
Where in the rulebook does it say you have to travel to get an upgrade? Provided that the distance and field size are correct, a result that counts is a result that counts toward an upgrade regardless of who you raced against and where you raced. Does the USCF want to start helping us out with upgrade travel budgets?
i agree
Yeah, what he said. Not him, the other one. Not that one, the other other one. Yeah. that one. Word.
almost none of the city races are long enough to count towards an upgrade to cat2. 8 laps of central park was the longest race held there, and that’s not enough (not to mention the fact that it was a club race). nothing in prospect makes the cut. the 50 miler at floyd is probably the only one that qualifies, and since almost everyone who can race the 3/4’s inexplicably races that instead of the 1/2/3, the 1/2/3 field probably wasn’t big enough there. a shorter race would only qualify if it were a crit, and we don’t have any, aside from harlem. yes, you have to leave the city in order to upgrade.
now seriously, i think we can more unanimously direct our ire at the parkway cops who take such pleasure in busting our balls–did someone really get nabbed? maybe for carelessly endangering the hapless river road motorists by neglecting to wear a helmet? did someone offend a fort lee resident’s delicate sensibility by pissing in the woods?
Just finished Blueberry. Organic, NYVC, Quaker Wheelman, and a lone Metro rider kept things interesting with constant attacks. After the first lap we all new the drill. If you werent inside of the top 15 guys out of the corner, your’re done. One had to go to war for position – literally! There were 3 corners that were 90 degrees and about 50-60 riders. Out of the last corner I managed to fight my way to the tailend of the split and it was on! I began to pass blown out heads left and right and even that was a dodgy affair. Eeked out top 15th. Tough race. One crash. A pretty bad one.
I did Blueberry last September and it was a fun race. Got crashed out in the middle of the race so never made it to the finish which migh be a good thing since there was a massive crash on the downhill sprint (people getting hauled off to the hospital kind of crash).
I saw elbows flying, guys going into tree brush, and the yellow line rule was a joke @ some sections. By the time I got up to the sprint run, I had the horsepower to get there but no room on the road to punch it. By the time it thinned out to about 20 guys the line was 75ft away. I only had the time to push past 4-5 riders before the finish.
The crash involved two guys that locked together and stayed locked veering off track into dirt. One guy unclipped and that’s what sent’em hard to the deck. Real hard! The other went into a huge puddle of water but kept it up.
Wonder Wheels got 2nd in 35+ and 45+ PLUS 3 primes.
Prospect park suck me you ass.
