Here is our very incomplete report about what happened today at Jiminy Peak. It was raining in the morning but it cleared up and turned out to be a nice day, except for those who were caught up in one of the many crashes. The rest was recorded with trademark NYVelocity slapdash journalism, mostly solicited from tired riders sitting in the backs of cars leaving the parking lot. My favorite interview of the day was when I saw David Taylor ride by. I yelled to him “how was your race?” He didn’t say a word, just held up one finger – the good one not the bad one.
Please feel free to add, correct, and complete this sketchy report.
@##=#<1,L>@##=# Kevin Molloy (Axis) took top honors from our area in the P-1-2 race. Other contenders suffered from bad luck; Mike Sherry (Merrill) got stuck behind a crash in the final hill and could only manage about 20th. similarly Zoltan Tisza, who has been riding very well lately, found himself boxed in and didn’t manage to get a sprint off either.

@##=#<2,L>@##=# A rapidly improving and growing Filip Capala bagged second by winning the field sprint. The field was not able to catch the winner who had broken away with one other rider who was later caught. Beware Emerson Oronte, Filip knows who you are now and he’s not gonna let it happen again. Lewis Almonte also turned in an excellent ride bagging 6th.

@##=#<5,L>@##=#Here is one race we felt pretty confident about a NYC area victory though most would have though it would be delivered by Roger Aspholm, but a David Taylor victory isn’t exactly a shocker either. With teammate Troy Kimball up the road Roger had to be careful about his attacks so he wouldn’t drag the field up with him, he still managed 8th.

We have been hearing a lot about how strong this guy is from his teammates and friends. We know; you told us so. Armand Della Monica (Blue Ribbon) got another good result with 4th.
Euri Madera turned in a solid 10th. I’m sure Schmalz, who actually ventured to a race outside of NYC whose name ends in Peak instead Park, will tell you all about his race real soon.

Another great ride for Heather LaBance, she didn’t let Andy down today. There were a lot of crashes in this race, and many of our talented local riders were caught up in them, but check out an impressive 11th place by ageless wonder Ann Marie Miller (Metro). Also take a look at poor Sarah Sauvayre’s (Comedy Central) fork.

7th place Cat 4 Brooklyn guy doesn’t warrant a bold?
Sorry Give me a minute to finish up here.
TS’s pick, S
Morgan Stebbins was in the club for a long time on Sony and Metro-SBCG. I think he rode the Tours of Ireland and the Dominican Republic on as CRCA-Sony. Very good sprint. I think Doug and he were teammates on Metro-SBCG for awhile.
David Taylor we know is strong. But maybe the sickest thing is that he was in a break from early on lap one.
My team (Wonder Wheel) has an ostentatious number of flats.
CRC of A is the club CRCA split off from.
By "the club" I meant CRCA — the "Association."
Re the picture on the homepage. That’s my wife Helen who was helping the injured rider before the cop came — she’s wondering if anyone knows who he is and how he’s doing.
Yeah this bold crap doesn’t make much sense..
great ride dave T, you must have rubbed the schmalz…
damn! if i’d had only rubbed the schmalz before the race!
Sonke is here for the season and living at Eugene’s. That makes him a local. Glad I got at least one pick right. Might have called the 45+ with Rafferty but he flatted out of the lead break of 3 just before the finish.
not sure who caused the $^%#ing crash in the 1-2 sprint (anyone see?), but i’m guessing he was speaking french and/or wearing pink.
…just thought i’d be a prick there.
like mikem would know a prick unless it slapped him in the face.
Sarah, you have to tell us about that crash!
not true–all you did was flame me, but i spotted you. a slap would have done it, too, but i guess that’s harder to do anonymously.
as for the actual race, two of the dudes in that offensively magenta "der Jan" kit made contact with me on the last climb as they all emerged and tried to swarm the front, so i’m guessing at least one of them was wrapped up in the carnage somehow. yes, i’m blaming canada.
mikem, i just didn’t think that was a very prickish comment. i was trying to show you how to do it right.
had you said…"not sure which douchebag caused the $^%#ing crash in the 1-2 sprint (anyone see?), but i’m guessing it was one of those french speaking taletless hacks in the sissy pink kits. i don’t know why we let those animals into house, they should stay locked in the back yard.
i would have been like, damn that mikm is a PRICK. instead i was like "whoa sounds like there were some french speaking dudes in pink kits that beat mikem in the sprint.
mike m, i am blaming canada too. this site is not intented to be a love fest, lets not discourage trash talking or the caustic comments that keep me reading.
I’ll tell you who since I crashed right on top of them. It was Fiordifrutta’s Chris Rozdilski and a pink Garneau guy dukin it out right in front of me and Rozdilsky leaned right on him and ended up spilling out and as a result I just went right over him. At least since I landed on him I didnt do any damage to myself 🙂
My upgrade to Cat 4 just got approved last week after I won in Battenkill as a 5. Thought a 4/5 race would be considered a step up. You must forgive me, before last month I hadn’t won a race since the 1984 CRC Juniors. Nothing but B’s and 4’s from now on.
i’m not exactly sure who/what caused saturday’s crash
maybe sarah knows more
but i was beind sarah and julie reid (advil–who also broke her bars)
2 other teammates went down
mad bike carnage for nyc!!
Did any one see the fat guy from Mercury Web Solutions? I think he’s gotten even larger. Sheesh.
just a dumb crash. broken helmet, broken bars, broken fork, but no broken bones, so i can’t complain (damn!).
did i love that new beautiful bike….too much? why, yes, i think i did!
Sarah, Did you trash the bike also? Or just the fork? I’ve never seen anything like that before.
So the P/1/2 crash was strated by 2 Canadians, eh. Chris Rozliski lives in Canada now as well.
Side note: I was very unimpressed by the teams in the P/1/2 field this year. So many teams with a lot of guys and none of them willing to race. Kenda/Raleigh were are great example.
ha, so it was canada… the big pink seems to have thwarted a number of NY-ers’ chances at a decent finish, if they took out Gavi, too–I know Sherry was mixed up in it, and I had to come to a complete stop in order to stay up.
agreed on the larger teams–having numbers doesn’t mean jack if no one will throw down. mengoni had what, three guys?–and they played a much bigger role in race than either the pink or the green.
too bad, sara. anyone who has seen you in the men’s fields knows your fit right now.
54 50 or fight. we should have taken over that country when it was politically popular.
that is a political reference that dennis miller would not even get
54 50? – Sammy Hagar would get it…
check out the maplewood crit this weekend, the course is kick ass, and it is run like a pro event.
anyone go to colts neck?
Good one, but you’re off by 10 degrees Karl. Its "Fifty-four Forty or Fight".
In U.S. history, phrase commonly used by extremists in the controversy with Great Britain over the Oregon country. The rights of the United States, they maintained, extended to the whole region, i.e., to lat. 54
ted you get a lead out for correcting me
Ken Harris had a big sign on his back which said "Chase Me!" which everyone did. The official lost track of the number of laps and we ended up with an extra lap. Dumb crash going up the hill as we were getting the bell, some Champion System’s guy just piled on top of the other guys to basically jam the road. 100 guys on a very narrow and very rough road. crazy field sprint. Juan P. got 2nd I think.
it seemed like every break had a target on it, not just harris. everybody in that race thought they were going to win it and nothing could get away. the field would chase, and chase, and as soon as it got just hard enough that things were going to get interesting the break would be caught and everyone would sit up .
i heard that troy eased up and let david win the masters in jiminy because david hasn’t won anything yet this year. their break also benefited from the field being neutralized on the first lap. good effort anyway.
I don’t think Troy was in the early break in the masters at Jiminy. I *think* it was just David Taylor and Donny Mills.
Audentes fortuna iuvat
Achmed, You must be kidding. You must
Achmed better be a code name for Justin busting David’s balls….
Kissena you are lucky we even let you in the race shut up and chase your teammate down.
How about a show of hands for who’s better looking? Kevin Molloy or Sarah Sauvayre? I can’t decide. Kevin has that beautiful hair (no doubt the envy of all the Merrill Lynch guys). But Sarah is, well, Sarah.
Talked to Chris after the P1,2 race. He said he and another guy locked up handlebars during the sprint….that’s it.
not that I don’t love Sarah, and not that I don’t envy Kevin’s hair, but how come that cute Filip kid isn’t in the running for best looking?
don’t even try to mess with the DT.
all i can say is that despite the 20-rider crashfest i was involved in at jiminy, i’m glad i didn’t have to ride with the guys — some of whom can’t seem to see past their own egos & lackluster results to laud one of the hardest working guys in the peloton. maybe if you’re lucky dave taylor’ll let you clean his bike!
Yeah, just like the way I let David win Harriman in the Fall and ride away from me at Christiana. Oh yeah, and win a TT by tenths of a second. Wow, I must be a really nice guy. One last thing – I guess that’s why Troy told me how disappointed he was to get beaten into 2nd at Jiminy.
